‘ thanks for, like, really going for it, ’ jimmy says to the girl who had acted like the manix’s performance was a sold out arena, and not three guys in the corner of a local bar. he can’t help but smile, for while confident in his own abilities he was thankful for recognition. ‘ it’s super sick when people get into the music, y’know ? makes it more fun for us at least. ’ @wildflcwers
The sun in Cherryville was very calming and not at all headache inducing when she didn’t have a hangover; which truthfully was rare for Serena but on this particular day she was completely sober. Serena was just enjoying time in the sun with her sunhat on, reading a book on the park bench. Her smile brightened when a stranger said hello to her but she couldn’t help the look of confusion when he seemed to know who she was. “Hey!” Serena returned the enthusiasm regardless. “Yeah, Serena. And you’re..” She bit her bottom lip. He looked so familiar and the name would come to her. Or not. “God, I am so sorry. I’m sure you can tell that wherever I know you from my memory is a bit hazy.”
' oh, uh, ’ he had made an assumption that he would have been remembered, but given the state the other was in during their previous meeting he could see the flaw running through that now. he takes a seat at the other end of the bench, hoping he’s not intruding. ‘ totally fine. you weren’t doing so well the last time we met, ’ a nervous chuckle escapes his lips, and then he continues. ‘ i’m buck, i was with the paramedics, at the bar last week ? ’ soft smile forms, ‘ like i said, it’s good to see you doing better. ’
he gives a smile , happy to run into the blonde again. while buck had matured somewhat since his ‘ glory days ’ ( no longer flirting while on calls was a start ), there was something nice about slipping into familiar habits, and given that she had initiated . . . well, he saw no harm in reciprocating. ‘ good to see you, phoebe. though, if we keep running into each other like this, i might start to believe it’s on purpose. ’ @stcrryskys
doesn’t know when to be quiet would be an apt descriptor of evan buckley. while he’s often charming enough, sometimes he’s far more friendly than is professional. when he sees the familiar face on his night off, he decides to say hello. ‘ hey ! serena right ? good to see you upright and doing well. ’ @wildflcwers
and welcome back : my second chara is jimmy details from wormwood, but i know it’s a pretty small fandom so let me give you guys all the info i can! the tl;dr on jimmy is that he’s a perennial college student who’s in a different rock band every few months and has a habit of stumbling backwards into the strange and supernatural. he hosts a podcast called ‘ dark details ’ where he talks about conspiracy theories and local legends and tries to get people to listen to his band’s demo. further details beneath the cut !
biography .
jimmy comes from a family with money, but never really felt like he belonged with the family. they had there own things to do, always too busy for him, and so he grew up mostly on his own. somewhere along the line he grew into the habit of showing up to the local diner before and after school where he became close with the staff there. an older waitress named deirdre became a sort of stand - in maternal figure. jimmy still spends far too much time at the diner. while deirdre has tried to help, you can tell from the way he acts that he was a child without much guidance.
music has always been his passion. since middle school, jimmy has never not been in a band. when one breaks up, he’s already putting together the next one. he’s sure it’s his future, that one day he’s going to make it big. he’s actually a very talented guitar player ( he should be, considering how long he’s been at it ), but his songwriting abilities leave a lot to be desired. however, he’s confident in his abilities and just keeps trying.
jimmy is currently enrolled in the local community college, and has been since he graduated high school ( though he took one semester off ), but isn’t anywhere close to graduating. the reason being he has no area of focus. he just keeps taking the classes he’s interested in, then changing tracks the next semester. he’ll explain it away as being a renaissance man, someone who can’t be tied down to one area of study, but you can choose to believe that or not.
he’s always had a fascination with supernatural occurrences and conspiracy theories, and somehow seems to find himself in the middle of their happenings even though he himself is quite mundane. he’ll swear up and down that a ghost named scott saved him from a bully when he was a freshman in high school ( he even wrote a song about it ). it’s the reason why he started his podcast, dark details, where he talks about all the things he’s sure is going on.
while on tour with one of his bands ( read : a van that traveled to three local towns to play in bars ), jimmy drunkenly stole a mummified hand known as the hand of glory that, while it does have some powers, is currently completely useless to the young rocker because he has no clue how to use it.
quick facts .
has a terrible ability to make things about himself. once debuted his new song at a woman’s funeral.
the human version of this image. often stumbles into having the right theory about something that’s going on, but has all the wrong reasons.
wears his own handmade band shirts.
dynamic ideas .
current and former bandmates, people who work / frequent the diner he hangs around, someone he’s taken a class with
𝐚 𝐣𝐢𝐦𝐦𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬 𝐭𝐚𝐠 𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐩 . was it just a song ? oh jacob, my young apprentice, come and sit on bended knee and prepare to learn. i’ll explain the truth of the world : there’s always a story in the song.
hey there gang ! my name’s rion and this here is evan buckley but he’d prefer you call him buck. he’s a weird combo of a frat boy type and an emotional sap with a soft spot for children and animals, though he’s made some progress on the maturity front a bit ! but it’s still something he’s working on. he’s passionate about helping people and he’s trying his best ! further details beneath the cut !
biography .
buck is the younger of the two buckley children, and grew up in hershey, pa, born to a couple who, in the word’s of his older sister, aren’t bad people just bad parents. he came to chicago for college and college was always more about the experience than the education. he was a guy with a wild streak, though he had a big heart. after he graduated college he applied to the navy seals ; however, while passing the physical portion of the application without issue, buck lacked discipline and wasn’t accepted.
his next stop was the chicago fire department, and there he found his calling. however, his impulsive nature and lack of discipline almost cost him the job within the first four months. after being warned about acting responsibly and maturely, buck was caught using the ladder truck to have sex with a woman they had saved on top of a roof. it is only through assisting sargent grant, a police officer he had met on the job, in dealing with a home invasion that he earned a second chance. while he hadn’t lost his reckless streak, buck began to take the job a bit more seriously. in his own words he’s still ‘ a punk, but [ he’s ] a punk who understands what he almost lost. ’
it’s after he decides to take things more seriously that he meets abby. or rather, he hears her voice for the first time. she’s a 911 operator. buck declines to meet her in person for a time, not wanting to mess things up. eventually, their relationship eventually progresses and the two begin to date. however, after the death of abby’s mother, she decides to travel europe, leaving buck alone in chicago. they tried to do long distance, but soon there was more and more times between calls, untill finally buck called it off. despite it ending, buck still credits abby with helping him who he is today, and it was the first and only serious relationship he’s ever had.
back on his own, buck threw himself into his job: being a firefighter was really the only thing that ever made sense to him. he still appears as confident and often as reckless as ever, but he’s also compassionate and kind. he’s always had a good heart, he just doesn’t often think about the consequences of his actions. he also has a bit of a stubborn streak, and isn’t one to give up.
( medical tw. ) that stubbornness is probably why he made such a quick recovery when the ladder truck fell on him in the explosion, crushing his leg. he was cleared for duty with a record breaking time through the test. however, while celebrating his return, another problem arose. buck passed out and had to be rushed to the hospital, where they discovered three blood clots. he was put on blood thinners and then put on desk suspension by his captain.
buck didn’t know what to do with himself, and resorted to suing the lafd. even then, he didn’t get what he wanted. all he wanted was his place with the 118 back, and instead he was handed a check and told he would never need a job again. he never cashed that check, instead moved himself to the first place he could get his old job back, and thus found himself in cherryville. he’s relatively new and trying to get his footing.
quick facts .
he’s more intelligent than he seems , often reading in his spare time ( so much while he was on probation ) , though he’s not a genius. just average that often gets underestimated.
buck spent his college summers bartending at a resort in central america ! he never really wanted to go back to hershey after he left it.
takes compliments about his appearance with ease, but freezes up and is unsure how to react when called a good person.
dynamic ideas .
gym buddies, someone he’s saved since moving here, someone who he knew during college ( either at college or at the resort he worked at ), drinking buddies / someone he’s met at the local bar, a hook - up / one night stand
𝐚 𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐥𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐚𝐠 𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐩 . i guess it's like the uniform is my costume. and i put it on and suddenly i'm brave and i'm strong. i make a difference. it was like without it, i'm not much of anything. being a firefighter is my life. it is the only thing i have ever done that was important and mattered, okay? without that, i don't have anything.
