Operation Green Thumb

I am Eve

And yeah, I took a bite out of that Eden’s Apple

Plucked it from the tree myself

And with my front teeth

I pierce that red fleshy skin

And took a deep juicy bite

It tasted amazing

I love it so much I become

One

With the Apple

I also began to love the Tree and its gifts

Started visiting it everyday

Making sure it had water and love

And tended to its soil and branches

Adam

Well he got real jealous

Told me I couldn’t visit the Apple Tree anymore

Said the friends I was keepin’ were a bad influence

Encouraging me to relax, meditate and sleep

Lazy!

He called it

Oh my dear friend the Snake who lived in the Tree

He had warned me that Adam was up to no good

Never wantin’ to come outside–always stressed out and working

I told Adam what the Snake said and he had him killed that same day

People still killin’ snakes today because

I am Eve

And I turned my back on the world

Nature, snakes and the trees

Oh and I joined Adam and his quest for greed

Sometimes I even pushed us too far with all my wants, needs and everything

But it never really quite took

I swear I’ve been asleep for thousands of years

So here I am

Looking at the garden I haven’t tended

Realizing

I had better get to work

Protest

(Dedicated to Black Lives Matter, the Student at Mizzou and NFL Protesters)

A Black child starves for you to see

A Black man takes a knee

A Black woman marches for you to hear

And White people turn away in denial and fear

Why is it so hard to believe what the Black protesters say?

Racism and Hate

have made homes among our schools, towns, cities and states

That society has ignored issues of injustice, inequality and segregation

Why are people pretending that their protesting is just an over exaggeration?

Why is it so hard to admit that mistakes have been made?

That people of color have been kept down for greed and selfish gains

And that America is not the land of where “all men are created equal”

This is part two=the sequel

It is the 1950′s and 60′s all over again

revisiting the same racial issues MLK wanted to bring to an end

Now we as a country have a chance to make it right

but change will not come without a long steady fight

So when you hear someone say “there is nothing I can do”

Remind them that they have the right to choose

They can sit back or get on their feet

stay silent or take to the streets

continue to live the old way

or embrace new ideals and change

Create a space where everyone is equal

and everyone has a say

What choice are you going to make?

Sick

Suffering

because of some ignorant comfortable fools

Who think they can call all the shots

and make all the rules

Selfishness and greed

are their fundamental tools

While people lay sick, suffering, dying

Well who’s helping them?

Seems like no one’s even trying—

While half the country parties and celebrates

=drowning out those crying

for equality and essential human rights

So all people can have healthcare so they can feel secure

and children don’t have to worry

and parents won’t fight

So they all can sleep soundly throughout the night

“Well that’s ‘those people’s’ own poor choice”

Cries the collective conservative voice

That argument doesn’t hold up—ya know

We did not all get the same start

Statements like that reflect cold and rigid hearts

To believe people strive for mediocrity

to live in tattered old dives

As they work ten times harder struggling to survive

trying to keep their families alive

I don’t think so!

Little do they realize that fruits and veggies

are luxury items for the wealthy

Piled so high on plates to excess

=waste for the healthy

The leftovers tossed in the trash are now

dinner for those who’s credits a mess

and savings lost in the Dow

A feast for those who can’t afford much anyhow

Stuffing our children with fast food drenched lard

No one ever told us life was going to be this hard!

So, those of us with little sums will continue to

Wait in line, chewing two-day old gum

Stealing from our children’s piggy banks

Hoping we can climb back up in the ranks

Back to where we once were

Whores for a little medical coverage

and ensuring the wars

What Needs To Be Said

What Needs To Be Said

In America

we love to say how proud we are of our country

That we have established equality and freedom

But the truth is these ideologies

have only been experienced by some

Voices yell from streets just 3 words

“Black Lives Matter”

and in return only silence is heard

The Black community is not asking for much

Just to be recognized, treated with dignity, equality and compassion

Basic human rights that should be in place for everyone

They are asking for these rights to be put into action

Black families weep and grieve for their family members lost

incarcerated, killed or shot

Black women and men continue to pay repentance for labels

past prejudices of foundations dubbing them expendable

myths created and kept alive by society–ensured and permitted

equality promised but not given–public support omitted

So, if there’s no injustice happening here then can someone tell me why

America’s for-profit privatized prisons are packed to the limits

over 2.3 million and on the rise

prisons like concentration camps filled by quotas through State ties

Corporate slave labor workhouses where the majority are people of color

and over 1 million of those incarcerated are our Black sisters and brothers

On TV and news, people debate with little or no respect for human life

I hear comments like:

“Those people deserved what they got because they didn’t follow the rules”

Really–is that right?

So, people are suppose to be subservient, accept unlawful harassment + abuse

and even possibly death by gun or even noose

A normal persons reaction would be to scream and try like hell to break loose

but good citizens are expected to stay quiet and meek

when taking a beating and their rights fleeced

Why are we pretending there’s no problem with the over militarization of our police

That they are misusing their power and armed with military grade weapons in hand

and that this country’s take-over hasn’t been calculated and planned

Armored vehicles

roll through local neighborhoods and streets

The Army is now our everyday police

Cities look like war torn Beirut at night

helicopters and guns shots light up the sky

This has become the norm=everyday life

no one even notices anymore or even blinks an eye

Peace protesters are faced with lines of bodies that domineer

decked out in full combat gear

ready to wage a 3rd World War instilling fear

These are same citizens the police have sworn to “protect and serve” and keep safe

Question is–who gave the police these military weapons in the first place?

And who told them it is ok to use violence against their own peoples with force?

Is this the same America we thought we were giving our taxes to support?

We are all watching our civil liberties and freedom slip away

Thinking “this will never happen to me”

Well think again–some crazy shit just might be headed your way

The Black community is the “canary in the coal mine”

The first to die in this caged war against Capitalistic Tyranny and Feudalism

The Elite are blatantly showing what will happen if you don’t keep in line

That you could easily become a statistic in America’s industrial prison system

1 out of 99

And the ultra-wealthy committing white-collared crimes

won’t do a minute of time

Sometimes I feel defeated

and wonder how change will ever begin

Then I remember it is because of us—“We the People”

It is through our unity that everything starts and ends

We are the ones who know how to create, sow, tend and mend

If we could just find the strength in each of our own hearts

To stand up and say ENOUGH to the persecution and oppression

of our families, neighbors and friends that would be a good start

towards establishing equality and freedom in this country again

Burning

Buried in a shallow grave

like the Manhattan Project lodged in St. Ann’s side

the wound weeps as the fire kindles

an atomic civil war

under the garbage of our past

Tear ducts drown from ancestors wronged

while new generations get in line

as offerings to the delusional gods

Money and Power

a pound of flesh for every pound of wealth

The political tongue wrestling over this land

“divided we stand but united we fall”

echoes sentiments of ruins from Greece to Rome

and yet the blind keep wandering

through stores and malls

buying up the last remains

of the good ol’ Amerikan dream

before everyone awakens to the expired glory

found in Landfill Heaven

White pointy caps ripped off

freed of masks proudly waving

five finger salutes and marching flags

through empty streets of the once called great cities

Now sterile habitats for Wealth and his henchmen

making no room for colorful silks, linens and cottons

Like an old song playing from 1942

the crowd dances to

Hate Greed War

They can’t see themselves

in the mirrored building

or on TV screens

So taken by their loss of status

in this crumbling pyramid scheme

Thinking their part of “the club”

they cheer

while eternally standing behind

the blood red rope

Some say

he’s the laughing stock of the entire world

this Grand Poobah of the new

Korporate Kolonial Klan

Now he’s taken over

and no one is laughing

No one except him and those few

who sold their souls and those around them

to follow in his wake

of rubble and ash

But remember–

this kind of loud mouthed roaring fire

bellowing empty promises of cinders and smoke

eventually dies down

to a smoldering simmer of hot embers and coals

can always be dampened and cooled

if the flames not fed

and splashed with liquid from hearts pouring

Love Kindness Compassion Generosity Care

This kind of fading fire

as it gasps for one last breath

just like those that came before

will eventually peter out

with a whimper and a sigh

We are the ones who

turn the keys

sit at the desks

and fill the streets

We are the ones who

tap the computers

keep the cog working smooth

spend hours as commuters

We are the ones who

turn the cranks

work 40 to 70 hour weeks

fill the banks

We are the ones who

serve the grub

keep the “good” employed

the Rich and Elite beloved

We are the ones who

keep the traffic running

production lines humming

the oil and coal sales gunning

We are the ones who

buy into the ideals and rules

trust others to make the decisions

down pills and drinks for moods

We are the ones who

demand the stuff

want and need

believe we don’t have enough

We are the ones who

haul the trash

dump junk in the Ocean

fill the stores and keep going back

We are the ones who

pour chemicals into our water supply

spray poison on our gardens

cause the ecosystem to die

We are the ones who

put guns in hands

turn our children over for war

give up our rights and lands

We are the ones who

make the bread

hand our savings over to the Feds

let TV and Cable fill our heads

We are the ones who

are in anguish and pain

hide in our houses

lost in Society’s games

We are the ones who

can say NO

make the change

show others how to grow

We are the ones who

can put an end to these walls

turn away from the norm

let the old ways fall

We are the ones who

leave the past world behind

rely on one another

Together--We will be fine

What’s Happening Here

the White House a southern bell by design

this gated plantation slave made foundation defies time

for history tells only a few truths

stories lost and made-up to keep peoples and troops

under political thumbs and eyes of drones

and families captive in prison-like homes

folks drunk on toxic food, drugs, liquor and beer

keeping brains and minds unclear

tv and news instilling division and fears

veiling the global systematic slavery

something we all have chosen not to believe

so when you’re through hammering your last nail

retirement parties and plaques that honor and hail

and when you finally sit back and toss up your feet

be prepared--your ass might end up on the street

for the tax man will be knocking at your door

because you’ve paid all your life but your owners want more

don’t bother your friends and neighbors asking for money or help

the majority has been programmed to only think about themselves

lost in the chaos, dazed on the couch watching life on a screen

so they don’t have to experience reality of such extremes

here where violence, killing and war is accepted

and daily nightmares are televised and expected

people’s lives are played like monopoly by the Oligarchy

debt masquerades as wealth and health is a commodity

civil rights and privacy is a thing of the past

privatized prisons full with people of color and low-income caste

seeds and living beings are patented and sold

corporations running the world ragged for oil, money and gold

clean air, food and water are scarce

chemical pollution and global warming destruction is fierce

power, money and guns are more important than lives

political corruption and division continue arguments and fights

over 50% of the population popping pills just to get out of bed

gender and racial inequality keep people from moving ahead

and it’s ok to lie, cheat, steal and take others resources and lands

have we as a country lost our humanity and compassion?

sometimes I wonder how all of this happened

and continues to go on--unquestioned

The Prison Door

(Dedicated to Leo Cappel a Holocaust survivor and the author of Like a Guardian)

I met a man who showed me his past through a book

His words came alive retelling his story of WWII

Nazi Germany Holocaust

Bombs, soldiers and concentration camps

I saw through his eyes

a young boy running from gunfire and hiding out to survive

I saw a German prison door open

inside

only Jewish people

Suddenly, I remembered what I had seen

while visiting a US prison

I saw the Missouri State Penitentiary door open

inside

only Black women

I was horrified

I remembered I felt powerless

that there was nothing I could do to change the system

So, I did what I could to help

Then I went on with my life with its own trials and tribulations

and eventually I forgot what I had witnessed

Until that day

over fifteen years later

I was reminded

At that moment I asked myself--

What if I was alive during the Nazi Occupation

would I see what was really happening?

The bombings of other countries for dominance

uniformed with gun violence rounding people up

prisons and workhouses full of people condemned for

color religion disabilities poverty heritage profits

Those being oppressed, persecuted and put to death

Would I turn a blind eye and continue to live a normal life?

Or would I stand up and say something

or go as far as to fight against the injustices

and possibly lose my own freedom or even my life

Who could I have been in the WWII Nazi Germany years?

Who could I have been in the United States all these years?

Who could I be right now?

Foggy Foggy Night

dewdrops gather dimming lights

dampening brick houses and walks

softening backdrops

Jack the Ripper’s kind of night

as I look out my window

I swear I am standing in 1800′s St. Louis

questioning my eyes in disbelief

witnessing a Black man kneeling in the street

with hands up and palms open

as two policemen hold guns pointed at his head

trees towering faint

like hand drawn pencil sketches

outlined in grey thick oil paint brush strokes

shadows creeping as ancestral ghosts breathe

misting memories repeat on cold asphalt streets

3am mind calls

awakening those with fear and worry

as we meet at our windows peering

we are the only ones

who know we are living

in a foggy foggy America tonight

Transform the Ego

The Ego

Needs to be broken into tiny little pieces

and fed to billions of people

so that all can be equal and share a common thought

=Compassion

The Ego

Needs to be pierced in the eye

with acupuncture needles and twisted

until the meridian flows of milky nectar

=Love

The Ego

Needs to be melted and smeared across continental lines

and flushed through sewers pouring into the center of the earth

where molten lava can scorch and harden around it like an island

=Hope

The Ego

Needs to be transformed by understanding and acceptance

shared through finger tips, crossing lips and forgiving arms

so that all can live together

=Peace

Chatting

One cannot even see that the words they spew

Spew with every gossipy tale they tell of another’s demise—

Just old habits of storytelling gone awry

Truth

They say

Told because it makes them feel better

Better about their own situations and paths chosen

The same paths of lost dreams and childhood resentments

Resentments crusted over by anger and sprinkled with despair

These cages of banter causes more pain than good

And yet we welcome the forked tongues with open mouths

Ingesting and regurgitate it once again into the ear canals of our children

So our children can then in turn toss the verbal seeds of destruction into

Their own fresh rivers and streams of young peers —

Tainting, poisoning, saturating minds with fatalistic lore

Which flows seepingly back through tributaries of hate and judgement

Dumping lingual sewage into societies Grand Ocean of false memories

So I ask you—is gossip just chatting…

She is a Person

(for Moche)

She’s a ho

That’s all we know

Stompin’ the streets

Flashin’ her gold

She is a human being

Beneath

She cries + feels so deep

The same as we do

Using drugs helps her see the day thru

She’s livin’ a different way

It’s all struggle and survival

in this world today

She’s a ho

That’s all we can see

But she’s so much more

then what we want to believe

She has kids and old love and she wants to provide

She can’t work from 9 to 5

Doesn’t have the education, clothes or even the looks

She took a wrong turn

when she was supposed to be hittin’ the books

You can see the sadness in her hollowed eyes

as she waves down the next car

hopin’ for a drive

People say she’s all used up

She’ll screw for a few bucks or a hit off the pipe

If that is her luck

Alone, hungry and about to freeze

parked in a car behind a building

you’ll see

As she holds a knife under her sleeve

If an intruder tries to attack or rape

She’ll use that shiv so she can escape

Wanderin’ streets day and night

Lookin’ for food and shelter

Avoidin’ street fights

Out on the pavement

you’ll never see her cry

That part of her is hardened + cold

She’s just tryin’ to stay alive

She’s a ho

That’s all we'll ever see

Stop judging her!

That could be you

If you didn’t get what you pleased

She has beauty and light within

But she still might stab you from behind

It’s the drugs that take over that make her blind

Even if you were the one who gave her food + clothes

You’re a blank faded face now

No one she knows

Wait a few days for the trip to pass

She’ll be knockin’ on your door to hide

while her pimp is lookin’ for her ass

Clean her up

Give her what she needs

She’ll go out the door to do the same things

She’s got nowhere to go

and all her friends know

how to find her

To drag her back to life

that surrounds and binds her

No way out for a ho in this neighborhood

So she better go do her job and make good

Or we will see her on the news floatin’ in the Mississip

“Dead Ho”

The papers don’t write about that shit!

She’s was a ho

That was all we could see

Someone could’ve helped her

Someone like you and me

Too Late

I feel sick

I feel angry

I feel sad

This mixture is becoming remarkably bad

My liver cries out in excruciating pain

trying to regenerate

as I pour liquored poison onto this fleshy frame

Replaying a life plan in my mind

a plan that I have devised

Confusion

like my lover describes

flipping a deck of cards through his head

Another work day he dreads

as he drives to the job that is bleeding him dry

of all hope and happiness

=his ultimate demise

Sometimes I wonder if he will survive?

We had a friend who was healthy and young

He went out for a typical morning run around a lake

it was an amazingly sunny day

until he dropped dead—

He was only forty years old but twenty in his head

Why was his life shorter than most?

Was it all schooling he had always discussed with a smiling boast

or the laboring work in an office that gave him that strange smirk?

Did his Capitalistic lifestyle take its toll?

Why is America so set on using its people until they're worn out

or rotting in a rectangular hole?

Young and old are searching for new ways to live

in other countries where Socialism seems to offer a life less glib

Places that at least give free healthcare and rest

One needs economic support to live a normal life

=life at its best

Not a life like in the U.S. that causes your organs to bleed

It seems as though our society has chosen a new creed

To use its children and adults to generate more for their unlimited greed

What happened to family and love as a goal?

Where is the meaning in life?

No one really knows?

Why is our worth based on what we do?

And when you are through working

you’re of no use

I predict the fatal health of our land

People and souls will suffer greatly if we keep with this plan

I propose we slow down and stop staring at the ground

Open our eyes and take a look

Take a really serious look around

Now

Realize that we have all become the exploited minorities

(although technically we are the majority)

We need to reevaluate our lives and grieve our priorities

Soon

Or there will be nothing here but a swollen burning red balloon

A war ridden existence

Run by Corporations, Banks and Government goons

Our Earth

once beautiful and alive

will slowly die

as pain, anguish and as the people cries

begin to fill our heads, our ears and our mouths

It will be too late

there will be no time to get out

And there will be no one left to hear our shouts

The Toll Taker

He says he is annoyed by the Toll Taker

Everyday for the past 10 years

sitting outside the convenient store

asking for a dollar as he holds the door open

Right off of the subway

in a nice upper-class neighborhood—

Guilt makes him angry

Angry that he has to see the Toll Taker

Angry that he, as a wealthy person,

is obliged to give to those who are not

Angry that the Toll Taker doesn’t work a proper job

even though he has a fine work ethic

Shows up everyday for 8 hours

Angry that he has to be reminded

that there are those less fortunate than him

Angry that he doesn’t care

Angry because he will be judged as selfish

if he doesn’t go along with the Toll Takers demands

“I Want Him Gone!”

A human being that cannot stand the sight of his own kind

Could it be that the local people want

and have kept the Toll Taker there for the past 10 years?

Maybe he is a reminder for everyone

of others in need

Or what could happen to them if they don’t work hard

they too could end up poor and begging

Or does the Toll Taker actually have friends there

that he brings humor and laughter to

Those who spend lifeless days filled

with paper walls, computers and high-rise sunsets

Does the Toll Taker represent the duality--

who is living the better life?

Could he be resentful that the Toll Taker has a better existence?

Maybe the Toll Taker is not a scammer or slacker at all

but liberated—

That kind of thinking makes him angry

Tired of this town and its streets

Tired of this country and its rules

Tired of this world and its separatism

Tired of sexism

Tired of racism

Tired inequality

Tired of competition

Tired of pettiness

Tired of arguments

Tired of abuse

Tired of hatred

Tired of judgment

Tired of gossip

Tired of scams

Tired of greed

Tired of the gluttony

Tired of selfishness

Tired of the apathy

Tired of the complacency

Tired of the neglect

Tired of hypocrisy

Tired of the lies

Tired of the denial

Tired of the cover-ups

Tired of the hate speech

Tired of the Corporate patenting of living beings and seeds

Tired of the secret release of GMOs into our food system

Tired of Corporations taking farmland and causing farmers suicides and deaths worldwide

Tired of people destroying green lands, forests and jungles to build

Tired of our water being stolen and sold back to us

Tired of the Elite making decisions on how we all should live

Tired of the continued violence against, the killing of and stealing of land from the Indigenous Peoples of America

Tired of the gentrification of our cities

Tired of the compassionate act of supporting and feeding homeless people being considered a crime

Tired of people not helping one another

Tired of people being imprisoned, tortured and killed

Tired of animals being imprisoned, tortured and killed

Tired of bees, butterflies and bugs being killed by Corporate chemicals and pollution

Tired of Elected Government Officials taking monies and bribes

Tired of voting corruption hindering, sabotaging and throwing out the People’s votes

Tired of the Electoral College and Delegates discounting and overriding the People’s votes

Tired of the Government overspending on wars while American communities crumble

Tired of the US secretly starting wars and bombing other countries and lying about it

Tired of our Earth being destroyed

Tired of our oceans and seas being polluted and over fished

Tired of the poor being exploited and oppressed

Tired of the Police violence and the arresting, imprisoning and killing citizens of color

Tired of the over militarization of US Police forces

Tired of the Industrial Prison Complex slave labor

Tired of the death penalty

Tired of loss of privacy and conversations being audited and recorded

Tired of cameras on the streets

Tired of people thinking they are better than one another

Tired of money and its pretend importance

Tired of men who think they are better than women

Tired of women who think they are better than men

Tired of class and caste systems

Tired of the Elite and Wealthy not paying taxes

Tired of taxes funding the Big Banks and Military instead of going back to the People

Tired of Corporate monopolies destroying small businesses

Tired of women being paid less to work the same job as men

Tired of women’s rights to personal healthcare continually violated

Tired of higher prices and “luxury” taxes on women’s products

Tired of road rage

Tired of parents that teach their children to be hateful

Tired of bullying

Tired of disrespect, violence and discrimination against the LGBT communities

Tired of the discrimination against the Transgender community using public bathrooms

Tired of the Police and the Military justifying their actions by saying “just following orders” or “just doing my job”

Tired of the Police getting killed in the line of duty

Tired of Soldiers coming home in body bags from wars

Tired of wounded Soldiers returning from the wars not being supported and forgotten

Tired of media blackouts

Tired of television and cable

Tired of computers

Tired of cell phones

Tired of people ignoring one another

Tired of local and worldwide human rights violations

Tired of human trafficking

Tired of gender based violence and abuse

Tired of cars and their exhaust

Tired of factories and their pollutants

Tired of nuclear fallout and continued building of nuclear power plants and weapons

Tired of cancers caused by chemicals and radiation being considered normal and acceptable

Tired of Chemical companies poisoning the Earth then selling the drugs and cures

Tired of watching the World being taken over by greed, hate and war

Tired of Political Leaders not working for the People

Tired of corrupt and rigged political elections

Tired of being robbed by the Banks

Tired of privatized debtors prisons capitalizing on the poor

Tired of Immigrants being denied entry, deported, imprisoned for profits and killed

Tired of the Corporations and the Government funding illegitimate wars

Tired of the School of Americas providing training and weapons to other countries for war

Tired of shootings and mass shootings

I’m tired of murders

Tired of “terrorism”

Tired of drone bombings

Tired of Muslim community being vilified, dehumanized, ostracized, disrespected,banned, deported, imprisoned and killed

Tired of “weapons of mass destruction”

Tired of the new military draft

Tired of everyone fighting

Tired of people pretending that nothing is happening in America

Tired of people not thinking for themselves

Tired of Religion separating people

Tired of the worshipping of wealth and money

Tired of Capitalism unbridled

Tired of Corporate domination of our Government

Tired of political parties and their bullshit

Tired of a false Democracy
