The descent to Hell is not far enough

But a staircase away and the howling begins

They scream desire to taunt and shame

Only I drown out the demons

With a bucket of water

Will soap wash them away too?

Away with the stains of fear and discipline?

Something stronger

Fumes that seize lungs and blind hearts

Bleach

Dripping from inside the cracks

Cracks in my shining tiles

Cracks of the whip on a shattered soul

When a glass heart broke

Into a thousand tiny daggers

Swept out of that dusty chimney

It rose from the ashes

Down through the icy blanket

Is far, far down

Muffled pulsing beneath the waves

Is all we ever needed

The sound

Do you ever turn off

The soft light above your head?

Glowing in the cold light of the devil's halo

Unable to take my eyes away,
