Alright hang on Icewing Animus Confusion time
(bear with me while I word vomit about Icewing genetics)
Sorry I’m like reposting this like a year later, I saw this and wanted to yap. Ok, so as someone who’s been making an attempt at working on the genetics and has a decent grasp (not an expertise mind you) on genetics I personally feel like the Animus gene is polygenetic. Specifically I would use a dihybrid cross for a gene like animus do to the relative frequency.
A Punnett square for that would look like this if both parents carry and don’t present the animus gene(website used is punnettsquare.org) :
If the only outcome that presents animus magic is aann then it would only be 1/16 dragons who have animus magic.
Now it is mentioned that the known animi in the Icewing kingdom had to mate with someone of the queens choice, I personally feel after Darlkstalker left they proceeded to choose dragons who had Al least one dominant A or N masking those genes, all of those punnetts would look like this ( assuming one parent was the queen an active animus with aann and not misc royal Icewings)
The highest chance, assuming the other dragon isn’t AANN (which would be a 0% chance for a aann dragon kid) the highest chance for an animus dragon is 50% which is high but isn’t impossible to manage to lose that 50/50 for many kids (like families with 12 girls and no boys, improbable but not impossible)
Again sorry for the repost to this dead of a post, and sorry is someone already yapped about something similar.
@everybody-hit-the-pyro-cue this is literally genius
Yo, thank you, I hope my explanation wasn’t confusing. This has been a personal headcannon of mine since animus magic was introduced as genetic!
To add on to this, there was another wof fan talking about genes, though in this case referring to the expression of different traits in hybrid dragons. I can’t remember exactly what they said but there are proteins - I think - that can up or down-regulate the chance of a gene expressing a certain version of itself. So maybe the chance of getting An/aN vs an isn’t 50/50 but more like 60/40 or even more so getting aann goes down even beyond what percentage was already there. That means the chance of even carrying that gene could be bred out of the population relatively quickly.

Excuse the messy drawing and wacky anatomy, I didn't want to spend more then 2 hours on this.
Alright so the premise of this comes from a little theory that popped into my head long ago when the world was ok and we only had to deal with THW trailer and nothing more.
Basically it goes: Toothless is actually just a light-fury/skrill hybrid and the twist to this movie would be that the reason we never find any night-furies is because they don’t actually really exist as their own species, but rather more like ligers or mules. My evidence to contribute to this theory is the lightning toothless used to make himself disapear, and the whole “Offspring of Lightning and Death itself” spiel. Now obviously lightning refers to the Skrill, but death could reasonably refer to the light-fury as well. The plasma bolt being a pretty acurate leathal killing weapon, alongside the fact they’re white and can disapear like a ghost, and may or may not have been based somewhat on the silver -Phantom.
Now obviously THW has been out for a while, and we know now that the light-fury was just supposed to be a subspecies or something of night fury, and a very feminine version of toothless that he could reproduce with.
But yeah I just wanted to take a moment to draw this, and sorta do a redesign of the light-fury. This isn’t my main redesign, as I do like the idea of the light-fury being like a polar bear to the night-fury’s grizzly, but I wanted a wanted a different design for this au so that toothless could look like something of a hybrid.
are there any differences when it comes to starclan worship and beliefs among the clans? considering how you’re taking a christian-flavored approach to their religion, there’s gotta’ve been some kind of “great schism” or “protestant reformation” religious discourse. especially when it comes to wind “we-sleep-under-the-stars” clan and sky “gone-for-the-past-50-years” clan
The most significant difference is between SkyClan and Forest Four worship. Between the four, it's mostly superficial ritual differences.
Traditional Forest Four religion is centralized. Clerics are both healers and religious leaders. There is a stricter concept of both blasphemy and dark magic that discourages personal worship of StarClan, so when you're given a strange dream or omen, you are supposed to bring it to your Cleric to interpret it.
By contrast, SkyClan has lived several generations on the lam. The closest thing to a Cleric they had was the Hub like Skywatcher, who was more of an "official networking expert" than anything. The Leader is the strongest spiritual authority and a Cleric is more of a doctor than a priest, so SkyClan cats nurture a more personal connection to Skypelt than Forest Four do with Silverpelt.
SkyClan's practices do not sit well with Forest Four. It's no wonder they have a demon like Brokenstar in their pantheon. Heretics, the lot of them.
As for Forest Four...
ShadowClan will surprise you with how pious they are. They have a deep connection to the Dark Forest with Ripplestar, Brokenstar, and Tigerstar in their recent past, so they fear the influence of demons more than other Clans.
So, their warding rituals also tend to be the best, and they're the most vocal about blasphemy. Clan cat AU of The Exorcist would have the priest come from ShadowClan.
WindClan is loud. The wind howls and so do they. They sing songs, chant as groups, and act notably performative about their piety. Visiting the Cleric regularly is a social expectation-- else you must be hiding something!
They have this practice of "counting their blessings," (Clanmew: "Pos shayu shai Laalha; For starlight I-lather") which basically means they like to point out the blessings StarClan has given WindClan. Usually this has to do with glowworms, an abundance of snails or rain, shiny things in general, a bountiful hunting week, etc.
ThunderClan does a lot of honoring. Sacrifices, dances, feasts. They have the most productive territory and make use of that. You'd think they'd get along with WindClan best, but they both find the other insufferable lmao
Leaftail: "bunch of shineless tailtasters over there-- they think they can just EAT FOOD and that means they're devoted to StarClan? I do that ANYWAY."
Shellfur: "maybe if they ate some more food over there they wouldn't have to visit their Cleric every 3 days. Your stomach growling isn't an omen bitch you just don't partake in StarClan's earthly delights."
Leaftail: "RICH coming from a TUNNELBUN BITER"
Shellfur: "MAAAAAAD that I eat YOUR food BETTER THAN YOU"
"SHUT UP"
"AND IM DATING YOUR COUSIN AND THERES NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT"
And, lastly, RiverClan.
They take things slow and try to recognize the blessings present in their world. When something is acknowledged as having "personhood" in Clanmew, it's given a warrior name. RiverClan gives a lot of things warrior names.
They have a lot more rituals than other Clans, but they're little ones. Superstitions, really. Like saying prayers before meals, putting an intentional flaw in their crafts, throwing every 5th fish of a hunting patrol back in the river. Stuff like that.
since i'm thinking about the tunnels it must be said that the metaphysical implications of having two perfectly aligned territories within cat walking distance of each other (and connected by the tribe, their shared history) is a fascinating choice by the erins from like. a christian standpoint. if firestar is jesus the first arc makes perfect sense (dotc as the old testament, though the fact that it's written afterward is a blatant error there, also firestar dying in the darkest hour and then being resurrected to bring justice i.e. the crucifixion), but that puts the second arc at a super weird position timeline-wise. i'd almost be tempted to put brambleclaw as a moses figure since he's leading the clans to their version of the land of milk and honey, but him going on to be so intertwined with firestar as firestar's successor nixes that basically immediately. plus see above for dotc as the old testament -- we have that niche filled.
the weird historio-religious moment that places brambleclaw at is almost, like. saint paul? bringing religion and the word of jesus (firestar) to foreign lands, something something. although if you dispense with the assigning of a specific religious figure to him, brambleclaw could almost be seen as a very insightful examination into the development of christianity and christian institutions in the common era -- spreading, being trusted implicitly, and eventually crumbling from within and being used by people to achieve their own gains (ashfur as the imposter? if i'm getting that arc right). brambleclaw's ambition and drive to discover new lands as a nod to christian imperialism that's pretty much inherent in the faith. et cetera
Hey. I would just like to say that if you support and/or voted for Trump, I'm gonna need you to leave. I do not want you anywhere near me. I don't want you interacting with my work. I do not care what your reasons were. I now have to live and wonder if I will be killed for my name, for my looks, for my identities. I have to wonder if the people I love around me are going to turn on me and hurt me out of fear and anger.
If you support him, I hate you. Leave me alone.
the thing i don't understand when ppl try to defend gray wing's constant bootlicking of clear sky is they'll always bring up the argument 'well DUH they're BROTHERS gray wing would never want to believe that clear sky's a bad person!!' but that entire argument goes out the window when you make them remember that gray wing literally threw hands with clear sky upon discovering he'd exiled their younger brother jagged peak after breaking his leg.
gray wing travels to clear sky's camp to confront him PERSONALLY and when clear sky outright admits that he cast out jagged peak because he was 'weak' and 'no longer useful' to him or the group because of his disability, gray wing's first thought is to get PHYSICALLY VIOLENT with clear sky because he understands how fucked up and selfish his mindset is - and this is only book 1 mind you. he KNOWS that clear sky is willing to abandon those less physically capable than him out of his own selfish interest and physically fights him over it and is still understandably seething over it when he gets home and then we proceed to never reeeally see that side of him towards clear sky again (until one notable scene we'll get to later) even as clear sky gets progressively worse and more violent.
this bit has been discussed time and time again but for the sake of expanding my point - later on in the books when the moor cats come across bumble on the verge of death, gray wing himself and the others hear clear sky sheepishly admit from his own mouth that after finding her alone on his territory starving and desperate, he beat her to the point that she fell unconscious and he left her to her own devices
clear sky severely downplays the situation and claims to only have given her a 'cuff to the ear' but because we've already witnessed him murdering a mother cat over a simple territorial dispute first hand through the eyes of thunder, the likeliness of this being a lie is almost absolute. and what can gray wing do all while bumble is bleeding to death on the ground and turtle tail mourns her? he worries about how clear sky's reputation might be tarnished in the eyes of the moor cats :( as if that wasn't already the case after his wrongful exile of jagged peak and his unnecessarily aggressive and territorial behaviour. all of a sudden keeping clear sky's name squeaky clean is of the utmost importance to him despite him not really caring about about that at all in the previous book and merely standing up for what was right and giving his brother the piece of mind he deserved.
but ok, what happens when gray wing witnesses clear sky murder a cat with his very own eyes? - not just any cat mind you, but an old tribemate and beloved friend/ally of gray wing. surely he'd believe it and act accordingly right?? yeah!.....
....for roughly 5 minutes. even CLEAR SKY HIMSELF appears shocked
later on in the early chapters of the blazing star it's only reinforced
but yeah while that's all the text i can be bothered to sieve through right now, all in all gray wing had like 2 notable moments standing up to clear sky before resorting to being a spineless apologist for him. we KNOW he is capable of standing up to him and gray wing KNOWS what clear sky is capable of and what he's done but then he switches gears for little known reason. there's compassion and then there's sheer stupidity and gray wing repeatedly displays the latter.
i have no problem with gray wing still retaining some level of nostalgia and love towards clear because at the end of the day, yes, they are brothers they grew up together and were at one point exceptionally close, but that doesn't leave him any right to downplay the god awful things he did and protest when others are rightfully hateful towards clear sky.
anyways stan thunder idk why the fandom was always so adamant about casting him to the side and cultivating a rivalry between the two brothers when thunder was always a far superior foil to clear sky in every conceivable way
also p.s. please don't let me stop you from liking gray wing if you want to this is sheerly an over the top rebuttal to a common argument i see used to defend the author's poor writing choices
peace and love ✌️💞
This so much actually!
Gray wing had so much potential (I love his version in my head v much), but instead of a really compelling and interesting tale of redemption and 2 brothers (kinda like Obi-Wan and Anakin from Star wars) you get this garbage fire.
Because Gray Wing is supposed to be the narrator and the core moral character, except the narrative is in love with clear sky, and uh really really wants You to sympathize with him as well. So Gray Wing ends up getting written as slightly xenophobic and an abuse apologist, which, not exactly a shinning example of morality. (And I'm like 75% sure that the Erin's didn't mean for him to across that way either, or to actually y'know say that those things are moral and great.)
Well, let it never be said the Erin's could write redemption or morally bad favs very well.
Stuck on the idea of vampires as a kind of reverse fae, or like someone's twisted, perverse attempt at moulding humans into fae.
They're repelled by liminal spaces.
A vampire could never enter fairyland, not just because they'd never be welcomed, but because most of the usual entry-ways are naturally barred to them.
They can't cross running water. They can't be seen in mirrors. They will wait forever at a crossroads, unable to pick a direction to go in. They can't even step over a thresh-hold unless there is absolutely no ambiguity about whether they are welcome inside.
They crave human blood, iron and salt, but are repelled by herbs and plants. They are supernaturally prevented from harming you unless the rules of hospitality have been invoked.
A fairy may replace your newborn child with something unnatural and ever-hungry. A vampire will do the same, but with your grandmother's corpse.
The fae are typically associated, even in stories where they're the bad guys, with flourishing and purity. Vampires, even in stories where they're the good guys, are typically associated with decay and corruption.
The fae turn ancient human burial mounds into fancy halls for their courts. Vampires take ancient human castles and let them grow mildewed and cobwebbed, exchanging the beds for coffins, turning them into burial places.
Fae don't tend to live among humans, but can generally pass for them with relative ease if they so choose. Vampires nearly always live among humans, but tend to find not revealing themselves a huge struggle.
I can't think of many stories I've read where fae and vampires even exist in the same universe, let alone ones where they actively interact. I feel like their enmity is almost more inevitable than that between vampires and werewolves, however.
The rivalry between vampires and werewolves is, essentially, the rivalry between two apex predator species who share a territory. (Even in stories where the werewolves aren't actually hunting humans.)
The vampires hate the werewolves because the werewolves interfere with their access to prey. The werewolves hate the vampires either because they consider themselves aligned with humans (the prey species), or because they are also predators and the vampires are competing with them.
By comparison, I think there's some story potential in the fae finding something genuinely creepy and uncanny valley about vampires.
They're immortal, like them, but also dead. They can be beautiful, like them, but that beauty is something they actively require humans to sustain. They like to inhabit beautiful and ancient ex-human dwellings, like them, but they actively work to make those places dark, damp and empty.
Fairies who are unflappable in the face of all sorts of Otherworldly monsters, can look an eldritch horror in the eye(s) without blinking, and have never been phased yet by any human, but will recoil from even the weakest vampire.
Vampires who hate fairies just as much, but in a more envious way. The way that the creature for whom immortality is a curse is bound to hate the creatures for whom immortality is an eternity of sunlight and laughter.
Maybe their touches burn each other. Maybe vampires can't stand physical contact with anything so alive and vital. Maybe immortal fairies become ill from too much exposure to the undead.
Maybe they fight over the human population when their territories overlap. The fairy need for servants and people to make deals with, competing with the vampire need for thralls and blood to drink.
Just… fairies and vampires. We need more stories about them interacting.

Darktail
So ... he´s mine now.
Gently plucks a wet Darktail out of the swirling maelstrom of bad writing choices and blowdries him in a rage cage
He drives me CRAZY. His design makes NO SENSE.
WHERE IS THE WHITE FROM?!
Smoke is a blue cat. So,
B/ d/d l/l C/cs
At LEAST. Let´s not worry about her tabby genes too much for now.
Onestar is a mottled pale brown tabby. I´m going to be generous and make him a cinnamon mackarel tabby with high spotting. I´m using spotted tabby as a slider rather than a fixed gene, so some mackarel tabbies look more spotted than others. So, this is Onestar:
b/b D/ L/ a/ Mc/ C/cs
WHERE IS THE WHITE WARRIOR CATS?! WHERE DO YOU GET A PIEBALD CAT FROM THOSE TWO?!
So I could give both of them W/S and just do a white toe for both of them, but honestly, I´m going with the funny option. He HAS to be black, and he CAN´T be diluted. He´ll have fur of middling lengh.
So, is he a tabby?
I could make him a black tabby. Lemme see what Onestar´s parents have to offer, maybe I can do something funny.
Wrenflight is describes as brown, so she´s a solid chocolate. Meaning Onestar gets a little b ... which makes him chocolate rather than cinnamon. Hu. Lemme look up chocolate tabbies.
Could still pass, I guess.
Stagleap is ... dark brown. Both are solid.
HOW IS ONESTAR A TABBY?!
There go Darktail´s tabby options.
Alright let me look up the colorpoint gene and see if I can do something funny. Because at least Morningflower is a colorpoint FIGHT ME.
So, normal colored cats are dominant, so I can theoretically toss an allelle in anywhere I want ....
Now, do I want him to be a sepia or a siamese?
Whom am I kidding, there´s only one way to go here.
With this in mind, this is what we end up with:
B/b D/d a/a L/l cs/cs
Seal point Darktail!
Now onto his sister, lol.
Skyclan gorge territory

genuinely curious how this shit looks what the fuck have i made cat genetics experts/blogs or something help 😭😭😭
And I oop
I have no idea what folded back ears look like or how to draw wirehair
As i (accidentally) caught attention of some cat gene nerds( my people sort of) i have game!
Theses are 6 full blooded siblings. I’ll list their Physical/presented Genes(and Sx) and lets see if their parents are 1, fully possible, and 2, if the Geno and Phino types are guess able
I think those are the right terms😰😅
LittleAsh(F): Blank Mink with Middle-lv White
SmokeSpots(F): Black Ticked tabby with Middle-lv White
HeartTail(F): Fawn Ticked tabby With High-Lv White
CoalEar(M): Solid Black with low White
JuniperLeap(M): Fawn Mink with Middle-lv White
Pit/Pitch Sole(F): Brown Mink with low White
I will do my best to correct any genetic errors
(To a point,)
Yes these are all possible.
One parent would have to be black carrying cinnamon (Bb1), and the other parent would have to be chocolate carrying cinnamon (Bb1).
Mink is what happens when sepia (cb) and Siamese (cs) combine (cscb), so one parent could be Siamese and the other sepia, or they could both be mink, or one could both be carrying sepia and the other Siamese.
Fawn is dilute (dd) cinnamon so both parents would need to carry dilute or one could carry and the other would be dilute. Same with solid.
Both or one parent could be heterozygous ticked.
Finally both or one parent could be heterozygous white spotting. Or one parent could be homozygous for white and the other could be heterozygous or not carry white at all.
And yes the cats all look fairly accurate, though I will say white spotting tends to start in the throat and near the belly and expand from there, so unless littleash and juniperleap have the Thai skunk mutation or a related one thats a little inaccurate. I wouldn't worry though because it's certainly not impossible, just fairly rare
