ABSOLUTE SUPERMAN #13 SPOILERS
Ok since ive had enough of the absolute superman slander i guess i got to explain the absolute-ness of the run.
From Absolute Evil we learned that everything in the universe bends towards evil, from the people to even the atoms. Now theres a lot of discussion on how Darkseid must've hated Batman because of how he horrible he made Absolute Batmans life but i think he did something even more sinister to Absolute Superman. Which was especially apparent in the most recent issue (#13).
A person from smallville approaches Kal-El and confesses that he's the one who ratted out his parents to the Lazarus Corp. and Kal just stands there without moving for a second before he puts on a calm demeanour and tells the person that his sharp eyes can help the resistance. Which is like oh your classic superman forgiving everyone move. BUT BUT BUT his internal monologue has an entirely different story. As he calls the guy, in his head he's thinking "tear his arm off, melt his skin off, throw him in the sun", as he's shaking his hand he has to force himself to "not crush his hand" and as he leaves to protect smallville he monologues about how this isnt his world, how hes alone how hes a stranger. WHILE the guy he just wanted to kill goes off with a renewed sense of Hope AND THATS WHAT I THINK THE CRUX OF ABSOLUTE SUPERMAN IS. ITS A SUPERMAN WHO INSPIRES HOPE BUT HE HIMSELF HAS NO HOPE. DARKSEID IS BENDING SUPERMANS OWN THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS TOWARDS BAD. AND ITS SO INTERESTING WHEN YOU CATCH IT AND REREAD THE BOOK. YOU SEE HOW CONSTANTLY SUPERMAN JUST CANT FEEL JOY OR HOPE IN ANYTHING, BUT HE STILL KEEPS MOVING STILL KEEPS SAVING PEOPLE, STILL KEEPS INSPIRING HOPE BECAUSE THATS WHO HE IS, BUT DARKSEID HAS REMOVED THE PART OF CLARK THAT WAS INSPIRED BY THESE IDEALS. HES MADE A SUPERMAN WHO DOESNT HAVE HOPE. AND HE HASN'T DONE THIS TO ANYONE ELSE IN THE ABSOLUTE RUN! its such a cool little thing and it shows how he views Clark and everyone else. sure Darkseid hates Batman but he despises Superman in a way that makes him want to tear him down from the inside and im really interested to see how a Superman without hope continues to inspire others.

working on a fic about green lanterns rn...lowkey excited about it, if DC isnt going to explore its cosmic side then by god ill pick up that torch
BAT-FAMILY AGES
Ok since no one asked i wanted to explain my Batman age list, since DC is too much of a COWARD to do it themselves i have had to make headcanons that fit 80-ish years of canon history into a sensible rhythm so everyone buckle in!
Bruce Wayne - Late 40's/Early 50's
Starting off strong but theres no way Bruce is anything younger than 45 and that is pushing it, and to be honest this fits w the canon version of whats happening in comics, Bruce is in no way in his physical prime anymore, focusing more on deescalation and team work than direct fights when he can help it, in my mind Bruce was in his physical prime when he was in Scott Snyders run but after Court of Owls, Losing his memory, Death Metal and everything in between he's definitely slowed down physically though he's in no way a slouch right now i just wouldnt call him at the peak of his physical prime, however on the other hand with the years of growth and the fact that alfreds death forced him to come to reckon with being the defacto dad of the Batfamily i think hes ironically in the best mental headspace of his life. I think all this development only makes sense if hes in his late 40's early 50's, any earlier and it feels way too rushed and any later and i dont think it makes sense for him to be this active. The goldilocks zone only works from 45-55ish.
Dick Grayson - Mid to Late 30's
I think it makes sense for the ex-boy wonder to be around 36 in the current timeline mainly because his relationship with bruce was never as clear cut as Father-Son and i think why that was, was because of the age gap between them, Bruce was in his mid twenties taking care of an 11 year old, thats less father son and more brotherly in its relation, so if Bruce s 48ish it makes sense for Dick to be around his mid 30's, plus it works because Nightwings really come into his own right now and i think he's definitely in a prime of his life, so i can see him spending his teenage years as Robin only to switch into Nightwing during his 20's and through all the trials of his 20's (Judas Contract, Death in the Family, Battle for the Cowl) he grows into his own and becomes a more confident sure of himself leader in his mid 30's as Nightwing, i like the idea of him spending his entire 20's settling into his identity instead of right away to be honest. (Side note: In my HC i think he spent his 30th birthday as Ric just because it adds to the melodrama a bit.)
Barbara Gordon - Late 30's
For some reason i always thought of Barbara as older than Dick, that might just because she seems matures but to be honest it just works for me, Barbara might be one of the Batfamily members whos gone through the most. From Batgirl to Oracle (to back to Batgirl again apparently) but i think that history has made her feel like a pillar to the younger heroes in the Batfamily so i think it works if her age shows that, i wouldnt mind her being Mid 30's as well to be honest but a solid 37 just sits right with me for her.
Jason Todd - Mid to Late 20's
Jasons a bit fun because of his death, because if he remained being alive he'd be around his early 30s and closer to Dick in the current timeline but i his death and subsequent lasted quite a while and i think its fair to say he lost around 10 years of his life to that damn clown so when he finally came back he wouldve only been slightly older than Tim Drake. He wouldve been around 17ish when he came from the ground and maybe spent a year or three training to be Red Hood, and i can see his time being a crime lord in gotham to his time in the outlaws(both versions) as enough time for him to reach around 26-27 physically, i think he's in the same phase of his life nightwing was at the same age where hes just trying to figure himself out.
Tim Drake - Mid 20's
Yeah as mentioned above i think hes just below Jason post lazaruzin and it honestly works, Tim joined Bruces cause around 14 or 15 in my head, not as young as Dick or Jason but more qualified, hes been part of the team as they dealt with No mans Land and Knightfall and also spent time with his version of the Teen Titans and the outsiders, so in my head that leads to a decently competent Red Robin (He is NOT Robin in my book sorry) at around 26 or 27, young enough to have a lot of potential for down the road but old enough that he knows what hes doing.
Stephanie Brown - Mid 20's
This also makes sense with Stephanie and Tim being around the same age and while Stephanie got her start much later than Tim i think her being in her mid 20's gives space for the amount of adventures shes gone with the team, plus shes already a competent vigilante as of right now added with a dash of being an energetic goofball, which just makes me feel her being 25 or 26 as just right.
Cassandra Cain - Early to Mid 20's
I think Cain should be one of the younger ones in the Batfamily, being closer in age to Damian and Duke than Jason or Dick. While she started young i think she only met Batman and the gang when she was around 19ish and given all that shes went through shes certainly no longer a child but shes still young enough that she has so much left unexplored, which makes me think anything from 23 to 26 works well for her.
Duke Thomas - Early 20's
For me Duke Thomas started off young in the "WE ARE ROBINS" movement but worked his way to Signal throughout a good couple years. While i do think hes underutilized, I think his adventures with the Outsiders and Batman have aged him out of an up and coming vigilante and more towards a young hero with a handle on the vigilante life with stuff left to learn at the ripe old age of 24.
Damian Wayne - Mid Teen's
Only when writing this timeline did i realise i dont consider any of the Batfamily members as teenagers anymore aside from Damian who turned 13 at the beginning of rebirth and went through enough development with his Teen Titans and the Fighting Island that id place him at 16ish, id put him a biiiit older but he seems young enough that he seems like hes only JUST starting to find his way plus we can knock a couple years off considering he died for a bit.
The Rest of the Cast, i dont have a lot of thoughts on but this is what i think their ages are :
Catwoman - Late 40's
Batwoman - Early 40's
Helena Bertenelli - Mid 30's
Jean Paul Valley - Early 30's
Blue Bird - Mid 20's
Aaaaaaaaand thats my thoughts on the BatFam's official ages, i have thoughts about the rest of DC's heroes as a whole but i think i cant get into that without getting into the myriad of crisis events and this post is long enough as it is.
ABSOLUTE EVIL SPOILERS!!!!!!

It makes sense that Ollie died tbh, hes the conscience of the league and is known for his moral cynicism, it makes sense that in a world where everything tends towards evil, hes so rigid in his principles that he physically couldnt bend towards the nature of the universe resulting in him just breaking instead, i cant wait for what absolute green arrow is about though! my goats sacrifice cannot be in vain
An interesting thing about the DC trinity ive noticed is that all of them are fundamentally lonely in a way no one else is and its soooo cool.
Superman is a last son of a dead culture, grown and brought up human but as he grows hes reminded more and more how hes not one of us, how hes different, how no matter what he does, Clark Kent will always also be Kal-El, and no one else can ever understand that. He is never to be normal. He is lonely.
Wonder Woman is a princess of a Utopia far away from the world of man, a life of eternal joy, glorious battle and loving family waits for her in Themyscira and yet she chooses to leave for mans world, simply because they need her and she cannot say no to that. Her Island doesnt understand her, doesnt understand why she'd give all of it up to help man's world, a world which also doesnt understand her ways, who dont know why she'd lead with an open palm before a raised sword, who doesn't understand that she'd give her life a million times over for ever her most despised enemies because that is who she is, a Warrior stuck between worlds, neither fully understandiing her. She is never to be understood. She is lonely.
Batman is fundamentally a child whos still stuck all alone in a dark alley from 30 years ago, he has not moved, he CAN not move. He strives to stop others from joining him in that alley but that is his place, that is where he wants to be, but all he knows is the smell of gunpowder in the air, the rain on his blood stained jacket and the cold hands of his parents before him. He cannot reach the light no matter how many he guides to it, it is a choice but it does not mean it hurts him any less. He will spend his life choosing to be alone so that no child ever has to. Trapped all by himself in the past, he will never move on. He is lonely.
I find it so interesting that yes theyre all lonely!!! but in such unique ways very particular to them as people, and i love the dynamics it creates and the influence it has upon their worlds!
Ive been wanting to make a horror/supernatural podcast for the past few months and every idea i come up with is just The Magnus Archives IM GOING INSANE GIRLS
New suggested listening order:
Start with The Magnus Protocol, episodes 1-50
At the point in episode 50 where The Archivist says they are not Jonathan Sims “but I have his story,” pause the episode
Then listen to The Magnus Archives, episodes 1-200
Resume Magnus Protocol episode 50 and continue from there
must’ve happened when it grabbed him…
protocol predictions
'..He is holding a cat.'
"-I see only the intruder’s shadow, in that deep purple glow. It is– it is the man from the lighthouse! He is holding something!
-The dangerous, dangerous angel is with him! The man is holding something!
-No! How did you–
-He is holding–
-Don’t come any nearer!
...
-He is holding a cat."

bonus pre-edit version under the cut
I stared into the abyss. And the abyss got weirded out. The abyss has given me a restraining order. Welcome to Night Vale.
One of the main reasons I haven't listened to the Magnus Protocol is because in my head Jon and Martin fell through dimensions and landed in Nightvale at the end of tma. They are Carlos and Cecil's oddball next door neighbors thank you very much and I refuse to accept any other interpretations.
