All I Want || Henley & Colton
Colton couldnât help but regret the question as soon as it left his lips. He knew he shouldnât have asked, it had clearly been a bad idea, but of course he had done so anyway. Henleyâs reaction only further confirmed that it had been a bad idea. Goddammit. Why did he have to ask? When it came down to it, did it really make a difference if this was or wasnât a date? They were friends, they did this dinner and drinks routine oftenâŠwhat made this any different?
Again, deep down Colton knew the answer.
From the very beginning this hadnât felt like just another dinner between friends. Not when they were dining in some new and expensive restaurant where Colton probably couldnât pronounce half the things on the menu. Or when he was dressed up for once and Henley happened to look even more like a goddess than she usually did. And he would probably deny it to the end but Colton couldnât remember the last time he had been this nervous.
By a standard definition this would definitely be considered a date. Colton was just afraid of what it would actually mean for them.
And then he got an answer, Henleys answer.
He was silent for a moment clearly taken back by her words. Colton was momentarily relieved by this realization, the faintest of smiles forming on his lips upon seeing the blush on Henleys cheeks now. She considered this a date. Sort of. âPresumptuous?â he repeated, the smile quickly fading from his face. No. No, this was the last thing Colton wanted to happen. âSo do you think this is just another day in the life of Colton Belfront?â he asked, his blue eyes full of curiosity as he continued to look at her. âI know this might be hard to believe, Henley, but I donât do this sort of thing often,â he added, a small but genuine smile on his lips in attempt to ease the conversation.
Colton couldnât really wrap his head around her words. Henley wasâŠwell, Henley. To him it was pretty self explanatory but clearly not in the same way that it was to the women sitting across from him. Did she really not know how amazing she was? Or that he should be the considering himself the lucky one right now?
Because he sure as hell was.
"I should be the one," he began again, momentarily taking his eyes of Henley in attempt to pick out his words properly, "because youâre just - do you not realize how seriously amazing you are?"
Henley was pretty sure she'd died and gone to heaven. Did Colton just call her amazing? It wasn't like she thought that he thought nothing of her, she knew he thought she was a cool person. But to hear him say that she was seriously amazing was too much for her little brain to handle. Tunnel vision had taken affect and all that she could see was him. All blue eyes and beard and blonde hair and fucking perfect smile. Why did he have to be so perfect when he was saying nice things to her??
So do you think this is just another day in the life of Colton Belfront?
She had, yeah. Sure, this had been a big deal to her, but she wasn't going to assume it meant the same to him. She'd gotten an inkling it was something more than it usually was when she'd seen him in nicer clothing than normal. But - Henley being Henley - she'd written it off as just the fact that they were at a nicer restaurant than normal. Now she was so sure.
Clearing her throat, Henley raised her hands and brushed her golden curls back from her face before mumbling out, "I'mjustgonna..." She then pressed back in her chair and stood up. For 2.4 milliseconds, she considered bolting. Feelings were foreign to her. She'd run like her ass was on fire when she'd gotten too close to Odette. But look where that had ended up. With her nearly suffocating every time Odette was around now that she was in town. The 2.4 milliseconds ended and instead she took the three strides around the table that it took to reach him and - without one single care about the fact that they were in a fancy restaurant - she dropped herself into his lap and placed her lips atop his.
Her fingers gripped the ends of his hair at the nape of his neck and her body leaned into his. And in that moment, she could have sworn that her heart burst out of her chest. When their lip lock finally broke, she kept her eyes closed, as if holding onto the moment. She'd only moved back from his lips about a fraction of an inch when her eyes finally opened and a grin pulled at one corner of her lips. "Am I 'seriously amazing' enough to not get us into any trouble for doing that?"Â
Sugar, Sugar How'd You Get So Fly | Owenly (closed)
The Davis family hadnât been on one of their âfamily tripsâ in a while now, a month at least. And while Owen enjoyed the time off to have a real life and see his friends and you know, sleep in his own bed, he was starting to go a little stir crazy. Sure, the hospital kept him busy and all of his home visits that his super talented (at hurting themselves, that is) friends provided more than enough entertainment. But still, Owen could feel all of the pent up energy starting to drive him crazy.Â
When Owen wasnât on a hunt, he did a really good job of keeping in shape. Usually spending around 2 hours in the gym a day doing a mix of cardio and weightlifting to ensure that he would be in tip top shape if/when he had to go on a hunt. Hunts may have become an enjoyable pastime for Victor, Vivian and Owen, but that didnât mean they didnât still present challenges. They were hunting vampires after all. And while the Davis cousins were experts at hunting the monsters, the fangers still had a lot on them when it came to brute strength. And the longer he went without going on a hunt, the longer Owenâs workout sessions tended to become.Â
He had spent an hour and a half in the gym already today when he finally realized that working out simply wasnât cutting it. He need to hit something, feel the rush of combat, have a near death experience, experience an adrenaline rush of some kind⊠something. And he knew just the girl who could provide a few of those.Â
Henley.Â
After showering, although he wasnât sure what the point was considering he knew he was in store for a workout one way or another from his favorite martial arts instructor, he threw on a pair of jeans and a white, v-neck, long sleeved shirt and jumped in his truck. It was almost 5pm on a Tuesday, which meant that Henley would be at the gym she taught martial arts at. He was hoping heâd catch her at the end of a class and maybe get a sparring session in after the kiddos left.Â
As it happened, she was still teaching when he parked and entered the gym. He watched her help a pudgy 12 year old with his foot placement and couldnât help but chuckle. Who knew a girl who could seriously kick any manâs ass be so great with kids? It was a trait Owen had never expected to find in Henley, but once he actually got to know her, it hadnât been too surprising.Â
After watching for a few minutes from outside, he walked into the class room. âOh donât mind me, class.â he said as he walked to the back of the room, pulling a chair out from against the wall, turning it backwards so that he could lean against the back and face Henley and the kids. âIâm just here to make sure Miss Hansonâs teaching you all the proper way to fight.â he added, trying to keep a serious face as his eyes finally flitted over to Henley, sending a wink that he knew would infuriate her, her way.
She was going to kill him for this.Â
Henley's head snapped around, her ponytail following suit, as she got the whiff of Owen as he entered. Ohhh, great. This was going to be interesting. She raised her arm to her forehead to wipe away the thin layer of sweat that had accrued there, then her eyes narrowed at him. She knew that he knew how to fight, but he didn't do it the same way she did, or the same way that she taught the kids. But then, why was she worrying about it? She and Owen adored each other.
It was only ten more minutes of class, most of which consisted of Henley kneeling on he mat beside two kids as they sparred each other. Then everyone began gathering their stuff, and their kids, and exiting. "Bye! See you next week!" she called out as the last person and child walked out before closing and locking the door. She then turned to face Owen and tilted her head, her blonde ponytail brushing her shoulder as she did. "What an unexpected surprise."
She untied her red belt and then pulled off her Gi leaving her in just a black tank top and her white pants. "Alright, so, should I let you get your chance to come at me first, or should we just skip the sparring all together and just go straight to making out?" Henley laughed warmly before walking over and gripping his hand, yanking him up from his chair and then jumping up into his arms. She hugged him tightly around the neck, "I feel like it's been a hundred years since I've seen you."
Henley kept hugging him for a moment before releasing his neck and dropping to the floor, stepping back, and flipping away from him, landing and kneeling down. Her eyes looked up to meet his and a grin spread across her lips, "Give it your best shot."
Oblivious to the Obvious || Henley & Hax (closed)
Cracking a crooked grin when Henley answered the door in this attire, Hax held up the six-pack that was tucked in his hand. âI come bearing gifts.â Her questions were a little tougher. Dropping his arm, he shifted. âI, uhh,â Hax shrugged. What was he doing here? As with most things Hax did, there hadnât been a whole lot of thought put into it. Heâd had an impulse and heâd followed through. Hax was nothing if notâŠspontaneous (if one was being kind). âI thought Iâd surprise you. Looks like I succeeded! Go me!â
Laughter broke from him when she started to speak. âAwww, so you didnât put that on just for me?â he teased with a wink - as always oblivious to her interest in him. âAnd here I thought you were just trying to make a guy feel special.â It was painfully obvious that Hax thought she viewed him as a brother. Sadly, it may have been equally obvious to outsiders looking in, that she most certainly did not.Â
"On my account?" he teased, when she said sheâd put on pants. "I wouldnât dream of it!" Shaking his head, he shrugged. "That was weird. Sorry, kidding. Iâm kidding. You do whatever makes you feel comfortable. I justâŠI dunno, I thought we could hang out? Itâs beenâŠItâs been way too long. But, seriously, if now isnât a good time, we can reschedule. Because you know me. I literally have no social calendar so, unless Iâm in jail," he shrugged because with him that was always a possibility. "Then Iâm freeâŠ" He laughed at himself. "Both literally, and figurativelyâŠto hang out."
Henley's smile spread across her lips as she listened to the very typical Hax way of speaking. She adored him and how completely and wholly he was just... Himself. "Hax," she said, placing her hands to his face so he'd stop going on, and once their eyes locked, she smiled brightly before leaning in and pressing her lips to his cheek, "I'd love to hang out." She released his face then and took his hand, leading him into her house and practically pushing him down on her couch, but not before snatching the beer from him.
"I'll open two and put the rest in the fridge," she told him before walking around to her kitchen and doing just so before returning and plopping down on the couch beside him, slinging her long, muscular legs atop his lap. "So," she said as she placed one of the beers into his hand and then leaned into the couch beside him and laughed lightly, "What has the great Hax been getting into?"
She paused for a moment before pointing the neck of her beer at him, "Don't tell me about anything that I might go to jail for knowing." She winked at him, knowing that this was their running joke ever since she'd known him and - more importantly - what he did to make his money. She didn't necessarily approve, but she also knew it was his own damn life. She told him every time before he set a plan in motion to just be careful and come home safe. That was all she ever asked of him. That wasn't too much, right?
Mirrors || Henley and Harper
Harper couldnât help stop the smile that formed on her lips. So Henley did remember her. âIn the flesh,â she replied, a soft laugh escaping her lips as she turned in her seat slightly to get a better look at the other blonde. Henley looked almost exactly the same as she did five years ago. Same gorgeous smile, bright blue eyes and kick ass attitude (Harper having had the fortune to hear the other womanâs last conversation with the man at the table). There was something about Henley Hanson that managed to bring a smile to Harperâs face despite the fact that she didnât really know the other woman. She was justâŠadmirable.
Reaching for her beer, Harper took a sip from her drink before responding. âA few weeks ago. But I havenât really had much of a chance toâŠproperly enjoy the place,â she admitted, a small grin on her face now. It had taken Harper longer than it should have to unpack because of course she had been second guessing her decision to settle here. Her last run in Oxford wasnât the best, particularly due to the lack of and disappointing information she had found regarding her family, but all in all Oxford wasnât terrible. At least thatâs what the blonde kept telling herself.
"Job transfer," she explained, her green eyes momentarily leaving the other woman and looking around the bar, "itâs definitely a step away from the city butâŠitâs not so bad. Iâll be here longer than I ever thought, thatâs for sure." Turning her attention back to Henley she fell silent for a moment. For a split second the other woman lookedâŠuneasy. Harper shrugged it off; surely she imagined it. Lack of sleep was probably getting to her.
"What about you? Howâs everything been going?" she found herself asking, unsure why she was suddenly so eager to speak to Henley. Especially given the fact that they hadnât exactly been friends.
Henley had to stop herself from saying that she could still smell the city on her. Maybe it was just he clothes; maybe Henley was just bat shit insane. Both were entirely possible. Henley was actually leaning towards the last one with all the odd sensations she was feeling ever since seeing Harper. Maybe people around town were right and she really was becoming a Belfront just by association. She would have preferred to become a Belfront by marriage...
But that was a topic for thought when she had a pint of ice cream to cry into.
"Yeah, I can't see Oxford being an ideal place for anyone coming from any kind of city... Unless that person just hated the city for whatever reason," Henley said, turning her eyes to her drink before lifting it up and taking a swig. God, she really was turning into Brett.
"Uh, well... I opened a martial arts studio, traveled all over the country for competitions and won them all," Henley grinned. It wasn't bragging, it was just a statement of fact. "My cousin got pregnant, annnnd... I'm depressingly still single, though that's more my fault than anything else." She shrugged and smiled to Harper, "You know, just the exciting life of a kick ass badass in a small town."
Renaissance Girls | Andrea & Henley
"Hey, girl!" Andi tilted her head, blond curls bouncing with her motions. "Long time, no see!" Eyes twinkling brightly, she pulled Henley into a tight hug. Andi was a very tall girl, an inch shy of 6â, but she enjoyed that. For one thing, werewolves tended to run tall and strong, such that she mightâve felt tiny at any other range; second, it gave her a steep advantage when it came to combat: tall and strong. Sheâd always said she was a match for any man and sheâd meant that in every way. Not to mentionâŠAndi tended to date tall boys and liked to be able to string her arm around the shoulders of girls she dated. âTell me everything Iâve missed!â That was a tall order. Sheâd been only in-and-out since college and little more. Either way, sheâd missed a great deal. She meant to fix that up. Andi smirked. âYou somehow look better than the last time I saw you. How is that possible?!â
Henley had just been sitting quietly at the bar when she heard a familiar voice. It was followed quickly by the scent, and that was what snapped Henley's head around to look up at one of her all time favorite women. "Andi!" she practically screamed, jumping up and latching her arms around Andi's waist, hugging her tightly. Henley stood half a foot shorter than Andi, but that had never (ever) stopped the two from the canoodling that had happened.
She held onto Andi longer than was probably necessary, but pulled back once Andi told her to tell her everything she'd missed. She then grinned a bit, stepping back and lifting herself back into her bar stool. "Well, thanks, darling. I do try to keep up my appearance. After all, us women who can kick ass better than most men certainly enjoy looking good while we do it, right?" She winked to Andi before motioning to the stool next to her, "Sit, sit! I've missed you so much!"
Henley raised up a little and waved over the bartender before motioning to Andi, "Please get this fantastic woman whatever she wants on me." She waited for Andi to order before turning to face her, "So... What's been going on with me? Hmm. Well, I've won a few more competitions since you left, my martial arts studio is thriving, thank god. Uhh... A vampire that I had a thing with has showed up in town." Okay, a thing meant fallen in love with but who needed all that information, "And Colton and I went on a date. Like a real date. Yeah. That's about it."
Henley raised her beer to her lips and took a long swig before looking to Andi. "What about you?" she asked, reaching over and gripping Andi's hand tightly, "It feels like forever since I've seen you."
Te Amo || Henley & Odette (closed)
Odette appeared to take in a breath, though truth be told she was really just taking it all in for however long the moment lasted. And Odette honestly didn't know how long the moment would last. Separate paths had brought them together, but Odette had a hard time finding the road when it came to Henley. It was infuriating.
You could imagine how angry Odette had been when it was Henley who had left her, instead.
To see her squirm was starting to make it easier to forgive, however. A small, slow smirk made itâs way to her lips as she folded her arms across her chest as began to move in a slow circle around her blonde counterpart, taking her in. Nevermind if this was usually how she started off a feeding; like a fucking shark circling itâs prey. She didnât speak for a moment, not as Henley fumbled quite cutely and not even after her apology, the only sound the clacking of her boots against the pavement. Odette softly brushed Henleyâs hair over her shoulders, enjoying the way her blood rushed at her touch as she circled behind her before slowly making her way back around to face her once more.
Odette wasnât looking for any apologies. Her progeny had almost killed her cousin (against her orders, but still) and what little ounce of humanity she might have had left in her was explicitly due to the blonde in front of her â despite the fact that her personal vendetta still consumed every waking moment of her that wasnât spent thinking of Henley.
Maybe Odette forgave her. Maybe she didnât. It would be hypocritical of her to dwell on it. âGoodbyes are hard,â she said simply; airily as though brushing it off and away into the night.
Henley Hanson had never fainted. Not once in her entire life. She was too tough for that, much too tough.
However.
As Odette's fingers brushed through her hair, Henley felt her blood race through her veins and her head go light. She swore that if there were ever a time to faint, it would be now. She paused to ask herself if she thought Odette would catch her before she hit the pavement. Yes was the ultimate answer. Even if she simply placed her down and then left; she believed Odette would catch her.
The metaphor of this was lost on Henley.
Henley turned her head slowly to watch as Odette circled her, her blue eyes practically swimming with curiosity and desire as the brunette settled back in front of her. "Right," Henley said, though her voice was anything but strong - she supposed it reflected how she felt inside. Her insides were mush, her stomach probably about to fall out her butt. "You still should have gotten one... But, yeah, they're... difficult... and stuff," she said, bouncing up on the balls of her feet before dropping back down on her heels.
"So, you wanna get something to drink? I'm not afraid to go to that vampire bar, if you want," Henley mumbled, talking just to talk, "I mean, what are a few vampires anyway? I'm tough. You're tough. Not that you're obligated to protect me or anything, just saying that you're tough and stuff. And if we don't go somewhere or do something other than me standing here staring at you, I might just make out with you, and I doubt you want that. Did I just say that? I did... goddamnit Brett." She muttered the last part under her breath. Scratch the whole pulling the blonde ponytail - she was going to stuff Brett's head in the sink for making her into a blubbering fool.
All I Want || Henley & Colton
The smirk on Coltons face remained knowing for a fact that he was pushing Henleyâs buttons. Of course she could kick his ass if she wanted too; hell, there was a definite chance that Colton would willingly let it happen. Not so much for her pride but the simple fact that Colton was, in short, wrapped around Henley Hansonâs fingers. As if he would ever do anything to cause any form of harm to her. Despite the fact that she was supernatural being, therefore stronger than most by default, Henley was stillâŠdifferent. Accidentally breaking one of Toby or Jacksons bones while wrestling was different than breaking Henleys. Colton would actually feel bad about itâŠeven if wrestling with Henley sounded a lot more fun.
Naturally heâd been expecting an answer like that and- wait. Did she just call this a date? Were he and Henley on a date? The question had made itâs way into Coltons mind a couple of times tonight but heâd never actually settled on a guaranteed answer. Theyâd gone out to drink before, theyâd even had dinner alone so why was this any different? Maybe it was because the pair had made an effort to get dressed for once? Along with actually dining out at a restaurant (not bar) rather than sitting at home eating take out Chinese. Before Colton could respond Henley turned and headed towards a table. He finished up the last of his drink before turning to look over at her. He caught her taking a seat at a table and-damn, she looked gorgeous.
Holy shit. Colton Belfront was on a date with Henley Hanson.
A chuckle escaped Coltonâs lips as he took a seat across from her. âYou on your best behavior? Shouldnât I be the one making that sort of promise?â he half joked, a playful smile making its way onto his face now. âThis place looks like theyâd have an alcohol limit,â he muttered, glancing around them at the elegance of the restaurant before looking back at Henley. âSo if all else fails, weâll head to Twin Moon for a second coarse.â It was evident that they were both a little out of their element in a place like thisâŠbut here they were. Colton found himself wondering if heâd be willing to do this sort of thing for anyone else.
Deep down he knew the answer.
Colton was silent for a moment, a slightly pensive look on his face now. âCan I ask you something?â He waited for Henley to nod, even if she noticed the slight change in his tone now. âWhat you said back at that barâŠdo you think this is a date?â
Henley was sure - there for about ten whole seconds - that she was going to combust from Colton's eyes on her. Why, she wasn't particularly sure. Maybe because she had been pretty down for Colton from the first time she laid eyes on him - yes, even in that stage of life where boys had cooties. Maybe because she could see in the way that he looked at her that he'd realized what she had been feeling: that she looked damn good. And that was a strange sensation. Because she'd always been sure that Colton just viewed her as the cool blonde chick who beat up his cousins and was excellent with his kids.
But then he sat down and she got a reprieve for a second, laughing a bit at his joke about the drinking limit. If there was one, they'd be the two to find it. But then that feeling of impending combustion settled back down into her gut as his eyes caught hers and the tone in his voice showed that whatever he was about to ask required her every attention. She did her best to focus on his words and not the flame in her stomach.
Shit.
"Uh," Henley gulped, feeling her throat close up a little. This was like being around Odette all over again. That fear of anything more than friendship was showing up again - and this time she'd brought it on herself. Of course he doesn't think this is a date idiot, it's just you. She pressed her lips together and shook her head, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that, I-" She wished she could just sink into the floor and disappear. She knew her face must have been fifty shades of red.Â
She raised her hand and combed it through her blonde curls, which settled back perfectly around one shoulder. "It was presumptuous of me," she finally finished, her blue eyes turning up to his again, "After all, you have girls falling all over themselves to get at you; and I'm just. Me." She laughed, but the sound died in her throat. She was just digging herself deeper into a hole now, "And I'm going to shut up before I make this situation any worse than it already is."
Te Amo || Henley & Odette (closed)
Odette had been watching her. Sheâd seen her around. Sheâd kept her distance. Henley might have been an unexpected, happy accident on Odetteâs ultimate path to destruction, but she had been very determined to not let it get in the way of her ultimate scheme. Odette had only just been wondering this past year, however, how much of her heart and soul she was really putting into her plan, now.
Henley had changed things, there was no denying it. Odette was already so far lost within the darkness around the time she had met Henley, but sometimes⊠There had been something there; enough to question whether or not her 300 year old vendetta was really worth it. Perhaps it was pretty fortunate that Henley had left before Odette could figure it out. Something told her that Henley wouldnât be too happy to find out that, while Odette had, ultimately, been using her as a ruse to get closer to those pesky Belfronts, it was something deep down keeping Odette from finishing her job. And then her progeny had tried to eat Henleyâs cousin and Odette had to deal with that, and it was all she could do to keep herself from setting herself on fire. But still, Odette watched her. Sometimes she even thought about making herself known. She had been here for almost a whole year â and entire year without Henley knowing. And suddenly the snow was falling softly and Odette was reminded briefly of being back up north, and she was as closest to happy that she was probably gonna get in a really long time (which wasnât very much for her, letâs be honest). The blonde finished her phone call with her stupid werewolf friend which gave her a small tick of irritation at the thought that she could have â no, should have â slaughtered him by that point. But before she could back out, Odette sucked in a deep breath that she didnât even need and stepped out in front of her, shoving her cool hands into the pockets of her long black coat to keep from reaching out. âHenley,â she greeted, her voice almost light and airy though she felt anything and everything but. Odette didnât answer her right away, mostly because she didnât have an answer for her that she would like. And she most certainly didnât want to tell her that sheâd been in the Oxford area for nearly ten whole months. âHow are you?â her eyes narrowed, flicking down over her almost instinctively before her eyes moved quickly back up to her face in a blink-and-miss-it moment of slight weakness. âBusiness. Iâm here on business,â she answered, hoping it was enough for Henley for now.Â
Henley knew that Odette could hear the pounding of her heart in her chest. They'd never had to hide what they were from each other, because they could both smell it on each other. And - to be quite honest - Henley had been turned on by the fact that Odette was a vampire. Something she and her other favorite female friend (a Miss Claire Belfront) seemed to have in common. But at this particular moment, she kind of hated that she knew that Odette could hear every painstaking thump of her heart. She wondered what Odette thought of the erratic way her heart was pounding. Or if she even thought of it at all.
"Business..." Henley nodded a bit too enthusiastically - seriously, it looked like her head was about to fall off - before adding, "That sounds... Businessy. Uh..." Henley raised a hand and combed her golden hair back from her face before glancing down at her feet. She rocked back and forth on her feet for a moment before looking up again. And god did it hurt. The snow floated down and landed in Odette's hair and she looked like a damn goddess. "You look great," Henley said before she could stop herself, and then felt rather stupid.
"I mean, of course you look great, you like... will always look the same," she said, laughing lightly. Holy fuck, when did she turn into Brett? She made a mental note to pull that mental patients annoying blonde ponytail the next time she saw her. "Look, Odette... I," she started, pausing to bite down on her lower lip, "I'm sorry. About the way I left. I should have... said good bye or... explained... Or something." Could she really explain? Could she look Odette in the eye and say I left because I was afraid that I was in love with you. She didn't know. She couldn't do it in this moment. But the more she stared at her, the more she wished they were like they were before. Which was mostly just tangled up in a bed, or each other.
"And I know that I can survive Iâll walk through fire to save my life
And I want it, I want my life so bad Iâm doing everything I can
You did not break me Iâm still fighting for peace
Iâve got thick skin and an elastic heartâ
