a scene that really gets me is in episode 6 is where they’re all sat at the table and yuna says “oh but that’s sad” when they tell her they’re gonna keep their relationship secret until they retire and shane responds “yeah we know” like that just sums up the queer experience.

a lot of the queer experience is people being like “wait it’s actually crazy you have to deal with that” and queer people just going 🤷‍♂️ because it’s always been like that. it’s sad but it’s not shocking to shane and ilya that they have to hide because there is no other option. it’s acceptance by defeat because it feels like there is no alternative

Ok i have a thought u all need to tell me if its compelling or not. What if Irina was not your traditional housewife but instead was a full time figure skater struggling to get back into competing after giving birth. Grigori is pressuring her about all her loses making her feel guilty that he allowed her to keep skating but what's the point if she cant even get a medal. Eventually when she is forced to retire Grigori never fails to remind her he allowed her so much freedom but she wasted it by not trying hard enough ignoring the fact he insisted they have kids right after the marriage even though she was not ready to take a break from skating.

“ilya please remember, i will be out of reach for three days” shane says looking directly into ilya’s eyes while holding his shoulders “you can’t call me, you can text me and leave voice messages, but i won’t be able to check them for three days. you will remember that, right?” ilya nods and shane goes “you promised me that you’d be okay, you said” he starts imitating ilya’s voice with a terrible russian accent “of course you can go, sweetheart, i will be okay here with our daughter” and ilya nods again and says “i will be okay here, i promise” as he reaches for shane to hold him in a tight embrace “i will be fine” he says into shane’s neck and shane holds him back just as tight and they stay like that for a while until wyatt shows up to pick shane up for camping with bood, dykstra, a friend of dykstra, some centaurs rookies and hayden. after three days enjoying nature, the scenery, the trails, swimming in the river, canoeing, and the campfire, shane finally reaches a place with signal on their way back and he picks his phone to find over a thousand messages from ilya and he gets worried until he actually opens their chat and see that half of them are ilya singing romantic songs, singing songs he made himself about how much he misses and loves shane, telling him about his days, new things anya did and a whole lot of “i love you” “i miss you” “please come back soon”. when shane finally arrives home, ilya is on him the second he opens the door, going “shane, next time i’m coming with you even if i hate everything you guys did there, i can’t be more than a day without you”

they are sitting together on a sun lounge at the hotel private beach. shane sitting at the edge between ilya’s legs with ilya’s arms wrapped around his waist and his chest pressed against shane’s back. and ilya has been kissing his husband’s neck for a while now, shane is so warm from sunbathing and still feels salty because he was in the ocean just a short while ago. and it was ilya who called shane over to sit down and reapply sunscreen, and even the taste of ocean and sunscreen didn’t stop ilya from kissing him —nothing will ever stop ilya from kissing shane actually. and shane says “ilya, i want to go for another swim” and ilya replies “no sweetheart, you have to stay here with me. we’re on our honeymoon aren’t we? that means you have to stick close to me all day” and shane chuckles and ilya hugs him and kisses him behind his ear and says again “just three million more kisses on your neck and you can go back to the ocean” and shane says with a smile “three million kisses will take all day” and ilya replies “then you’d better let me get started”
