Psychology time!
This isnât having a short attention span (or well maybe thats part of it), but probably something called âOptimal Arousal.â(This is psychology, not anatomy, please keep your mind out of the gutter Xp)
Optimal Arousal goes like this: When effort is low, more stimulus is better. When effort is high, less stimulus is better.
Iâll elaborate. Whenever you do something easy (like maybe some homework as an example), unless something else is happening (like music or a show) you tend to get drawn away or doze off. In this homework scenario, the effort is low, so in order to keep at it and do well on working on it, you need a higher amount of stimulus, like a movie.
If something is hard, like for instance a test, you probably will try to avoid noise, going so far as to hush others so you can concentrate. The effort is high so you want less stimulus.
Keep this in mind. It can help you focus, and make life a lot easier. Dont feel bad for doing lots of different things while you are just chillin. Enjoy the knowledge!
This is also the reason that when people get lost or are trying to find an unfamiliar destination, they turn their car stereo down.

Queer History. The other morning I got into a âdebateâ over the film Stonewall and one person said he didnât care about the history of the Stonewall Riots or our queer history in general. Honestly, I couldnât believe what I was seeing. This person didnât seem to care that the only reason he (we) has any rights or can even happily come out without the fear of being arrested is because of events like the Stonewall Riots and the people that fought. Yet he enjoys the benefits of it (work equality, marriage, anti-discrimination laws, oh and being able to go to a gay bar and drink/dance the night away). So I wanted to put together a small overview of the riots in the hopes it enlightens anyone or gives someone the nudge to learn more. (If anything is incorrect just leave me a comment, Iâm by no means an expert in this). Enjoy. đłď¸âđâď¸đđŹ

This is actually called thin slicing. Your brain recognizes patterns from very small âslicesâ of information by comparing them to things you have experienced before. This all happens very quickly on a subconscious level without our conscious mind being involved. So intuition is actually really fast pattern recognition, and it can be very accurate. So yeah, if you have a gut feeling that a person or situation is not good, get the hell out. Your brain knows whatâs up.Â
quick protip: if someone is crying or freaking out over something minor, eg wifi not connecting, canât find their hat, people talking too loud, do NOT tell them how small or petty the problem is to make it better. they know. they would probably love to calm down. you are doing the furthest possible thing from helping. people donât have to earn expressions of feelings.
Iâm just gonna put it out there that if someoneâs freaking about something small, theyâre really freaking out about something big that theyâre trying to deal with, or something long term thatâs been building up, and that little thing is the straw that broke the camelâs back.
I donât know, try and give people the benefit of the doubt. Donât be the next straw on their broken back.
