i think if you are in a position of power and use that power to tell people that you see their every move and are going to do what you deem "appropriate reactions" to them breaking your personal preference rules in private spaces AND ALSO tell them you have spies watching them just in case they try to hide then that makes you a bad person

by paratext I am of course referring to anything that exists outside of the text as supplementary material: out-of-character conversations, director’s commentary, social media posts, non-roleplay streams or videos, real-life relationships; offline interests, hobbies, talents, pets, even physical attributes. obviously rpf is what you make of it, and the line between roleplay/real play has always been blurry in the context of mcyt, but what particularly interests me is how people will selectively choose what to keep and what to discard in order to hew as close as possible to an imaginary line in order to signal their allegiances to a certain political position. and make no mistake, the inclusions of the ‘not rpf / never rpf / don’t ship real people, that’s weird’ labels on fanworks are political statements; they are also moral judgements, and often hypocritical ones. when you’re incorporating paratext into a canon-based fanfic, there’s no meaningful distinction between roleplay and rpf apart from the semantic divide. but for me at least the disambiguation has always been pretty straightforward: is it taking place in minecraft? then it’s not rpf. unless you want it to be, in which case it is. it’s as simple as that.

Problem? The fandom still hates shipping. Solution? Start an underground Discord server to quarantine your shipping activities. To avoid being cancelled, you'd have to scour your social media to find potential members who are secretly open to shipping.

Bogwaters is a free, text-based, interactive fiction browser game. The game is a parody of the Third Life SMP fandom in mid 2021 that is focused on Treebark (the romantic ship between Rendog/Martyn InTheLittleWood) and its fandom relevance.
This is a demo version (prototype) meant to test the limits and feasibility of this game.
You play as the owner of a Discord server named Bogwaters. Your goal is to invite 4 people within 7 days, from June 1 to June 7.

Forget about boundaries for a minute. Let's talk about triggers.
Triggers are a reaction that can form due to exposure to traumatic situations. Some aspect of the environment around the trauma (an item, a song, a food- ANYTHING) becomes associated with the trauma. Future exposure to that trigger brings up the memory of the trauma, causing things like flashbacks or dissociation.
Let's imagine someone who spent a lot of time very sick in the hospital, and as a result they're triggered by the smell of a specific brand of cleaner. Any time they smell it, it feels like they're right back alone and in pain and dying in that hospital bed.
What do you expect they might do to handle that? They might let friends and family whose houses they visit know, so those people avoid that scent. Maybe they've had to leave stores or restaurants a few times, so they call ahead to check if that cleaner is used. Maybe they go to therapy and start working on controlled exposure to it, or how to lessen their reaction.
Why don't they just ask that no one uses that cleaner anymore? It's legitimately triggering to them, it can make them have panic attacks - why would anyone want to use something like that, knowing how much it could upset them? It's not like there aren't plenty of other cleaning supplies and scents out there! How obsessed are you with this cleaner that you can't agree to not use it? Surely you understand how disrespectful it is to prioritize a smell over someone's comfort, they're a person too.

Someone who creates media (whether acting, writing, streaming, or otherwise) does not retain control over the stories other people tell when inspired by what they made. It's not about the fucking shipping, it's that the request is fundamentally unreasonable and controlling. Pretty much everyone is happy to use tags and filters and archive locking to ensure CCs don't have to see things they don't like; but if a CC wants to ensure art or writing exists to their precise specifications, that's called a commission.
A creator announcing you can't ship their characters is just a different flavor of Anne Rice issuing takedown letters to gay fanfic of IWTV, and deserves to be equally clowned on.
wasn’t gonna comment publicly on the pyro situation but just saw a post so completely missing the point of everything going on that i feel compelled to.
creators need to learn to use the block button. boundaries does not mean you get to impose anything on other people. it means you are setting a boundary where you will disengage or block someone if they engage in certain behavior. you are the one looking up fan content. fan works are not for you. they are for other fans. you can simply choose to not seek it out. learn to block tags.
i say this all as i was personally responsible for a sizable chunk of the “2019 mcytblr drama” that everyone always talks about. i was a dumb teenager who thought it was my duty as a fan to “protect” my favorite creators. but no, creators are grown adults. if you need random teenagers to police what other people on the internet do instead of curating your own feeds, something is seriously wrong.
to every cc involved in this whole debacle. please. get off social media for a bit, get off twitter especially. or at least turn off any and all algorithmic feed and curate your own following list instead. take a break and stop looking at what everyone says about your work. it is genuinely harmful to be constantly reading everything everyone is saying about you all the time, even when it’s positive.
