So horse world-building question:

If you have hoofed, sentient creatures (centaurs, fauns, etc.) do they wear horseshoes? Or are horseshoes a compromise between cost, effort in looking after the animal etc. Is there something "better" (in comfort, utility, fashion) that sentient creatures would prefer? Possibly also a metal thing that's nailed in, but different in some way?

As she wrote, ordinary Americans and Iranians have more in common with each other than we do with either of our governments, which have far too much in common with each other.

recently rediscovered my absolute favorite entry in the genre: customs and duties by tortoiseshells, which is an insane technicalityromance set in 1738 boston, ft the stuffy british navy guy from pirates of the caribbean/ofc, smuggling, puritanism in the john calvin sense, the legal realities of widowhood, several real historical governors of massachusetts, debts, accounts, and of course customs regulations

I would also like to nominate and psyche's lamp shall darkling be, a story based on the 2025 Frankenstein movie that gets into the intricacies of 1850s convent school life, the process of Catholic ecclesiastical courts verifying miracles, multiple points of mid 19th century marriage and inheritance laws pertaining to property, and also spells the word connection with an X so you know the author has been in the 19th century literature trenches

I've got a real published book to add to this one. "As Meat Loves Salt" (which I might have gotten recommend by someone on tumblr??)

Not sure if "romance" is the correct word for it but it's. Not NOT a word for it. There's love. But also a lot about the English Civil War, and actual real pamphlets that were circulating during it, and how manors run and how urban houses run and how a funny little homestead runs. Also military field operations and accurate clothing layers.

And also the main character compelled me to highlight so many parts of the book with notes like, "BABY NOOOO," "WHAT ARE YOU DOOIIINNGG," and "you better beg for forgiveness". He's got...a lot of the period-accurate common gender philosophy. So yaknow.

I recommend going into it without reading the book flap blurb.
