my futile wish is for people to understand that "sex scenes in movies/TV don't have to serve the plot and can genuinely just be for pleasure" and "sex-repulsed people are allowed to complain about how rare it is for media made for adults like them to be something they can enjoy completely" are both true statements. unfortunately society hates both sex and people who don't like sex, so everyone gets far too defensive about any sex or lack thereof in fiction to actually have this conversation
is it possible to fix my life but still be weird abt books tv film & music forever? i will attempt it

I have now read All Systems Red from The Murderbot Diaries, and I think the main charm of it is I went in fully expecting a "Humans treat robots like appliances then some of them slowly learn not to because of This One Special Example" but instead the crew immediately goes "No, Murderbot is a person. Look at it, it's got anxiety."
Meanwhile, Murderbot itself is like "Why was I cursed with a face. Please treat me like an appliance so I don't have to make eye contact with any of you. I've got anxiety."

give a woman some guy and she'll be entertained for a day. teach a woman how to put some guy in situations and she'll be entertained for the rest of her life.
>picks up a book
>get stopped and told it's a feminist retelling of a classic
>ask if it's actually feminist or just misogynistic in a modern way
>they don't get it
>ask if it remains faithful to the themes of the source material while also deconstructing it's misogyny, or if it just updates the kind of misogyny from classical to modern
>"haha its a feminist retelling"
>look inside
>misogyny

cultural change has been so drastic that the martian (2015) just reads as cringe to me now. Or perhaps my soul is broken

arcane is so cool because sometimes you'll be watching and enjoying the amazing art, great plot, and well developed characters, and then they'll do something to remind you this show is about league and imagine dragons
