Holidays In Our Hearts: Preamble

Hello there, and welcome to this completely rational endeavor. I have spent the better part of the past month watching, re-watching, and taking copious notes on a grand total of 25 holiday romance movies, all so I can bring you, gracious readers, this essential information: which one of them is the best of the best. Beyond simple numerical rankings, I have also compiled a list of peaks and pitfalls associated with each one, as well as additional notes to help you understand why exactly they received the rankings they did. 

For each of the movies reviewed for this list, you will find the following information:

The title of the movie

Its synopsis, as listed on IMDB

The movie’s poster, as provided by IMDB

A paragraph summarizing my general feelings on it

The names of the female and male lead(s)

A list of three notable tropes this movie contains, based on my personal compiled list of Holiday Romance Tropes

A bullet point list of all the things I enjoyed about the movie (Peaks)

A bullet point list of all the things I didn’t enjoy or found questionable (Pitfalls)

Each movie will also be ranked from worst to best, with the worst sitting at 25 and the best at 1.

Before you join me on this journey, I find it important to note: this is a list made with love. I don’t think I could have endured 25 of these movies if the love wasn’t there. If I didn’t have fondness for these types of films, it would be easy for me to brush off the faults of everything with one indiscriminate sweep and not bother to look back. 

But I love these movies. I appreciate what they do well, and I can be critical when they fail to meet expectations. 

I can also be incredibly specifically nitpicky about what I do or do not count as a fault. Outside of the occasional case where I may be critical of something I missed an in-movie explanation for, these are all based on my personal preferences for what did and didn’t work for me. You, gracious reader, could rank these movies in exact opposite order, and you would be just as correct in your rankings.

christmas movie where a city girl falls for a cowboy but they're both horny lesbians

Christmas movies really need to show the reality of Dec 27, when the girl boss protagonist who just quit her high paying City Job to spend the rest of her life in small town christmasville with the dude she dated in high school for a couple of months is trying to find dinner at 830pm and has to face the reality that not only is there no good Chinese takeout in a 20 mi radius, but every restaurant in the county closes at 7:00 p.m.
