it’s psychological horror to YOU. to me it’s a romcom

Able-bodied mother of neurotypical able-bodied children: "I was initially looking forward to the inclusive playground but there are only two play structures intended for wheelchairs."
Every person at the intersection of neurodiverse and mobility aid use: "Wow, there's a wheelchair swing and a wheelchair accessible merry go round and a triple-wide slide so someone can play with an aid and theres a touch exhibit that uses edible plants and a windchime forest for sound seeking persons and wide walkways and a natural play area and the floor is a rubber mat instead of loose mulch and lots of imaginative play areas and I can push my walker right up to the roller slide..."
The company we consulted for our upgrades specializes in inclusive play, and does so by actually consulting not only persons in wheelchairs but a spectrum of ability. Not disability advocates- people who have disabilities.
And that has been the difference in this whole conversation-and just about every conversation ive been having lately: people will be upset on your behalf for selfish reasons without asking how you feel.
You're not upset that there new playground isn't inclusive enough, you're upset that it holds no nostalgia for you.

one of these days it's going to turn out that Ringo was Jack the Ripper or something isn't it
Need to be taken apart and reassembled like a broken watch . Not in a sex way I just think they should put my joints together right this time
Ohhh the fantasy of all your bones being put into one of those ultrasonic cleaning baths they use for jewelry. All the pain coming clouding out like dirt. Then carefully reassembled and joints oiled and then it would all just work perfectly and painlessly...
Like, I know that's not what's wrong with me but I think we should try just to be sure
once you realize that ryan gosling has a bunch of tattoos dotted around his arms and start looking for it then you start to see how many little costume pieces are there to try and obscure them on grace. he has that wide watch he wears most of the time, his t-shirt sleeves all stop at the same precise spot on his biceps, when he wakes up in medical environments he'll have cuffs and bandages that cover those same spots, etc. they aren't 100% covered all the time, the barcode on his inner left wrist in particular sneaks in during a few hand-focused shots, but you only tend to notice if you're looking for it so the costume and makeup team did a perfectly serviceable job distracting from them. a fun thing this does, though, is characterize grace not as a person without tattoos, but as someone with tattoos who habitually covers them up even when he's up in space hanging out with his blind bestie.

how it feels to message a friend who's having Problems that you can't do anything to help with.
#i appreciate how genuine and non-judgemental this comic feels #like left one is not upset at right one for caring while being powerless #and right one seems genuinely distraught and not performative
I'm glad the facial expressions are coming across accurately! It can feel so absurd to say gosh I hope the torment maze removes some fire and rusty nails soon, but alas, sometimes that's all one can do.
fun fact about me: When I was 6 years old I sent so much hate mail to the president (the second Bush) that the mail carrier had to tell my mom I needed to stop before we got FBI’d
I was COMPLETELY unaware of the US political scene or why the adults in my life hated Bush, but I knew I hated him because he let people shoot wolves from helicopters and that’s mean and shitty
I also had a poor grasp on how stamps worked, so given that I wasn’t allowed to continually throw money away by putting stamps on my presidential hate mail, a lot of the times I just drew squares with little pictures inside on the corner.
Love, love, love reading more proof that everyone should encourage the children in their lives to write to elected officials--it teaches them about citizenship and can also be very funny.
When I taught second grade, one of the options for students who had finished their work was to write a letter to the president. I would send all of the letters in a big envelope at the end of every month.
Watching my students get more and more frustrated with him (and concerned about his wellbeing) was not the result I'd hoped for when I came up with the idea, but it was kind of hilarious.
See, Obama had a standard packet with information and activities about his dog he'd send in response to letters from very young citizens...and of course his office sent one back to our class every single time we sent mail.
So eventually all of the letters looked something like this:
Dear President Obama, I am writing about the environment. I am sad that the Great Barrier Reef is hurt. Also the Amazon Rainforest. Can you help? PLEASE DON'T WRITE BACK TO TELL ME ABOUT YOUR DOG AGAIN. WE ALREADY KNOW ALL ABOUT BO. WE COMPLETED THE MAZE AND COLORED HIM IN. It is good that you love your pet a lot. But try to remember the environment. It is also important.
If you want to write in the classic high fantasy mould, you don't have to be hung up on food specifically, but there must be some very mundane thing you're prepared to cultivate a sincere interest in and describe in excruciating detail every single time it comes up. Clothing. Furniture. Architecture. It doesn't work without it.
I’m slowly beginning to accept the reality that 2007 was not last year but in fact almost four years ago
they dont tell you this but like half of adulthood is just washing the same FUCKING pan
WASHING THE FUCKING PAN AGAIN!!!!!
Y'all are out there complaining about your OC prompts getting blorbotagged with MCU characters. I'm over here having posts about shit that happened to me in real life getting blorbotagged with characters from Oscar Wilde.
Kink scene rescheduled because halfway through me explaining the scenario my dom asked a clarifying question that uncovered a howling logical inconsistency and we ended up spending the next three hours workshopping the worldbuilding.
