not to sound like a weak, morally impure centrist over here, but i think online leftist communities need to be a little more accepting of the concept that most people are just. not that well informed. we live in a society that provides access to an overwhelming amount of information and yet which discourages actually diving into much beyond the surface level. Most of the people you meet out in the world are just not gonna know much about a lot of what you care about, but that's not the same as being against those things, or being unwilling to learn, or being unnamenable to those ideas. Our modern society is an unending cascade of information and misinformation and disinformation and filtering through that shit enough to actually have a solid grasp of a subject, let alone a nuanced antiestablishment political take, is a skill that takes time and effort to develop, time and effort that is in very short supply. It really bothers me when I see leftists talk about how capitalism keeps us down by taking up all our time and energy and making recovery, both physical and emotional, cost what little we can afford, and then turn around and get upset that people are politically uninformed. On some level, you gotta meet some people where they are, and have a little faith in them to be open to new ideas and information. Ignorance is not inherently intentional, and it's not the same as antipathy.
In my experience, you can just say in a friendly/excited tone, “Ooh actually I know something about that!” when someone says something wrong or misinformed. And 9 times out of 10 it'll make them blink and go “Oh? Really?” and then listen to you. Starting with a vibe of "Actually that's wrong" puts people reflexively on the defensive (closes their brains down) because VERY FEW people actually enjoy being corrected. But getting a moment of curiosity about what you have to say, even just "Oh? Really?" or "What is it?" OPENS the brain. It's a foot in the door because the conversation starts from a perspective of SHARING info rather than CORRECTION.
And look maybe they don't change their minds right then, but THAT'S OKAY. Most people aren't completely spineless pushovers with no opinions of their own, THEREFORE you need to be content with planting a seed and then stepping back and giving them time to chew it over. And sometimes (especially if you're dealing with cult deprogramming) it is going to take a LOT of seeds planted before you see their mind start to change. But as long as you believe lovingly and compassionately that people CAN change, then a lot of the time... they will. But as OP said, you GOTTA have that faith in them. Everyone is capable of change. Everyone is capable of learning. EVERYONE.
People live in information ecosystems. Including all of us.
Most people live in fairly polluted and/or impoverished ones (including more of us than most leftists like to admit). Much of it DELIBERATELY POISONED.
You might not have the wherewithal to clean and improve that ecosystem on every given day, or any given day. But since a system of reeducation gulags a) first needs a war of takeover that will end up with every medical fragile person in our countries dead due to the social collapse, b) have not been historically very effective, the metaphorical equivalent to “just bullldoze it” isn’t an option.
lol
Nobody has mentioned it yet, but the Shul that was protested last night in Queens was hosting a real estate event. They were selling stolen Palestinian land.
That's a pretty big detail that would seriously change the optics here if true
They were protesting the Tivuch Shelly real estate agency, if you check their site:
this is the white devil profiting off of the displacement of Palestinians.
Here are the 2024 vaccine recommendation schedules. They’ve already been wiped from the cdc site. Save them and share widely, especially to your friends with kids.
Sorry we really went from free the nipple, take back the night, slut walks, and ending gender/sex segregation in sports being fucking milquetoast feminism 101 concepts to fucking girl dinner and "I just worry about fairness if we let trans girls play against cis ones" and "it was right of that woman to call the cops on a black man for existing near here in public during the day time because men are all violent monsters" and "radical feminism isn't transphobic we just need to kill all men including trans ones those oppressive traitors" and I will legit never be able to be normal about it. What the FUCK happened. I'd say I wonder what the feminists of my youth would say about this but I'm one and lemme tell ya I want to throw up. Go fucking read bell hooks or do something else useful please because all of this learned helplessness, gender essentialism, and transphobia dressed up as feminism is actively holding us back.
We are just hastening our demise at this point.
I don't understand how people who are so "LOL magas don't believe climate change is real!!! How stupid!!!" are so blithely skipping to chatgpt as a search engine at the same time. Like you cannot be "haven't you noticed the lack of bugs this year" and simultaneously "here's how I made my 17 step skincare routine using chatgpt!!!". It beggars belief.
There's also this.
Verified: Microsoft 365 gets massive 45% price hike — and it's all to do with AI tools (Tom's Guide - January 17, 2025)
oopsie i tripped and spilled my link to archive dot org's downloadable copy of Microsoft office suite for 2007, which features no AI tools and is a powerful word processor that still holds up just fine on windows 10!
the original got flagged with no way to appeal it when every contributor is deactivated but I will never let this post die. it's monday and we are getting on it cunts
Once you start thinking about humans as a species in a biome, it affects your entire way of looking at normal things.
The other day I referred to female morning joggers as an 'indicator species' in that if you see women jogging in the dark it means that the environment provides migration pathways (sidewalks, clear signs) and doesn't have any known predators of female morning joggers (guy with knife, bear, BigTruck, male morning joggers).
Though, I think that people consider framing humans as animals reacting to their environment as rude.

I'm actually over the panicking stage and have moved on to matter of factness. I think already knowing the worst would come helped tbh. But I do selfishly hope that all the people who told me I was overreacting and predicting unreasonable outcomes if Trump got elected are properly horrified and remorseful now. Especially the ones who voted for him.
should i eat first or shower first *has phone in couch time for another 3 hours due to choice procrastination, a behavioral phenomenon observed in pigeons and rats as well*
As Elon Musk cements his place in history as a fascist tech overlord and the rest of the world looks at us in horror, I really do want to reiterate what I feel will be lost to the history books
Nearly everyone in america has thought and continues to think that Elon is very cringe.
