We all know about China's misogyny and many of their unfair laws. Recently a video has gone viral on Chinese platform where a woman, mother of eight children is found chained to a wall. This video was uploaded by an influencer whose goal is to raise funds for people living in poverty. This woman had a huge chain around her neck, standing in the cold with clothes not suitable for winter while her husband and children were happily eating breakfast. The vlogger started asking her questions but the woman wasn't able to answer.
Many started questioning the reason why this woman was chained to a wall and asked if she was a victim of human trafficking. The officials of that area (Feng County) released a statement claiming the woman, whose family named is said to be Yang, was married with kids and mentally ill, this the reason she was tied.
The public was outraged. Firstly, because of the horrible treatment of the mentally ill. Secondly, it's illegal to have eight kids in china due to the one child policy that was implemented till 2016, so how could this woman be allowed to birth eight?
Two women, Wuyi and Quanmei, drove to Feng County, hoping to visit Yang, who officials stated had been hospitalized. They urged people to talk about this case, writing messages on their car doors with red lipstick, and countless women have since come forward with more similar cases of human trafficking in that area. Wuyi and Quanmei were soon blocked from posting on social media platforms, banned from entering Feng County and were arrested. The officials were clearly trying to stop them from finding out the truth.
Since the first government notice, they have issued more statements with many differences between them. Fortunately, the woman finally got proper medical care.

But I have this account, albeit a small one, and I want to share this with everyone.
That woman could be my sister, my daughter, my friend. That woman could be anyone. The saddest thing is that she isn't the only one. Human trafficking is a huge issue in China with the government not caring about what happens to women, banning any news platform from talking about it. Due to the population imbalance in China, there are now more men than women, resulting in women getting sold for marriage, the youngest being 14.
It's 2022 and this is very common for rural areas.
