@hommv
the problem is i really do love staying up until one billion o'clock. it just cant be helped
our idiotic ancestors used to believe stuff that's not true but luckily we've now figured out all the true things to believe in
i made a post like this before but I can't find it now. so. I'll just redo it.
What's the first "big news story" you remember from when you were a kid?
It's something I love to ask mixed-aged groups sometimes because I think it's really interesting to see the responses. I've gotten answers from the Olympics of [whatever year] to Watergate to more recent stuff from my niblings.
My first news thing I remember is the OJ Simpson trial. I vaguely remember watching the news with my grandparents before that, but that's the first story I remember, in part because my second grade teacher had us go play so she could watch the verdict đ

im going to start dissecting clearly AI posts to explain to you guys what gives away AI generated text because itâs not the em dashes here
- âworthâ - this is a huge AI tic. âWorth notingâ âworth flaggingâ âworth pointing outâ
- AI also abuses the modern stylistic habit (one i personally hate) of truncating sentences up front by deleting the subject or references to the subject. âworth flaggingâ not âitâs worth flagging, âcompletely different storiesâ not âthese are different storiesâ or âtwo completely different stories.â most people will naturally alternate and vary, but AI doesnât seem to like alternating or varying
- âthereâs X before you ever Y,â i see this a lot too
- AI loves to try to use a hyphen to force two words into a compound as if itâs common lingo. âwealth-buildingâ isnât commonly used, âbuilding wealthâ is the more natural way to say it. itâs not that a human being wouldnât say this, itâs that among a bunch of other tics, it stands out.
- lists of two. â30k into the 401k, 16k in the 529â and âcash flow of $1, savings rate north of 11%â
- using an em dash incorrectly (that should be a comma) followed by âandâ to end the response on a smug, generalizing little button. AI will either put a trite, reddity little button on whatever it spits back at you, or it will end the response by asking you a question to try to get you to use more tokens. every single time! you have to put in a lot of work to get it to not do that
