they've yet to make an experience more bewildering and confusing than trying to pick up a rpg after more than a week
coming back to a platformer after a year: man, I used to be able to make those jumps! I'm so washed...
coming back to an rpg after less than a week and a half:
i haaaate being avoidant. it makes you feel like the world's biggest jackass whenever someone tries to talk to you or whatever and you just Freeze Up
Oh sorry i took a long ass time to reply and didnt say anything. I got arbitrarily scared and tired myself out so now i cant say much. Oopsie teehee. it makes you feel like a huge dickhead

i have a secret third opinion about self dx discourse which is “why are you guys treating the DSM like it’s the fucking bible”
the amount of leftists who uncritically support the DSM-5—wielding it online in battles against random individuals who might be “faking” a disorder—boggles my fucking mind. you guys realize that the DSM-5 isn’t the only diagnostic manual on the planet, right? you realize that we place it at the top of the global hierarchy because it’s american, right? has it occurred to you that the APA shouldn’t have so much authority over what counts as a “real” mental illness? has it occurred to you that perhaps there are other diagnostic manuals? in fact, there are dimensional models that don’t rely on sorting individuals into “disorder/no disorder” boxes in the first place. food for thought, lmao
and. on top of all of that
no diagnostic material is god
it is an approximation of what is going on when mental/psychological issues crop up to the best of our human ability--which is constantly evolving along with our knowledge--filtered through the perspective of societal standards and norms of the region the publishers and researchers live and/or work in
diagnostic materials identify commonly co-occurring clusters of symptoms, trends of their causes, and recommended treatment practices, and allow you to bill insurance on the basis of a particular diagnosis or treatment goal
and ultimately, a non-zero amount of what ends up in published diagnostic materials around the world is going to just be flat-out incorrect.
it may be poorly studied or substantiated, or it ended up there because of someone's political/ideological agenda, or it'll be somewhat right but with the wrong ideas about treatment
but it is a *guide*. not a holy text.
and the people who put it together have ideas about what a mentally healthy or mentally normative person looks like--meaning that their biases will color their work EVEN IF they are working to acknowledge or avoid them.
we are not going to pull back the fabric of the universe and find that people diagnosed with autism are branded on their souls with "autistic"
you're not going to get brownie points at the end of life because you labeled yourself or someone else "correctly"
there's great likelihood that even objective states of mental illness will change in experience and presentation as the human race continues to grow and evolve over time! what we think we know with such certainty today can be definitively disproved tomorrow!
the DSM and other diagnostic materials are not all-knowing, they are not divinely inspired, they are not infallible.
and they sure as fuck are not a cudgel to beat people over the head with to find out if they're "faking". get a fucking hobby.
body positivity has largely failed because people started arguing for attractiveness and romantic prospects instead of respect and dignity
this is truly the best summary of what all of this SHOULD be about
polyamory is really good for getting multiple concurrent opinions about how hot various bodyparts are
monogamy is crazy to me because imagine being mad that your partner can pull. imagine your secure ideal being someone with 0 game
when your partner gets some your first impulse should be to take her out for ice cream like a dad whose daughter just annihilated her softball game
what does it all mean

luv how male animals gotta fucking dance around and cry and shit for female attention and sex. and then men irl complain about fat women and body hair like get on ur fucking knees and beg me actually
like these tarantulas dude?? the male has to tap out a rhythm she likes and if she doesn’t?? she’ll literally eat him.
Alpha males: "This is nature. You don't see animals acting like queers don't you?"
90% of nature documentaries: "Until now the female has been very impressed by the males drag performance of Orwell's Homage To Catalonia, soundtracked exclusively by Maria Carey songs. A demanding performance like that knows to impress. But... Oh No... One note in the final tune was one cent flat. It doesn't look good for the male now. She is ordering an orbital laser strike to burn his beautifully groomed plumage from space. It will take all year to regrow, effectively ending this one's mating season early. Better luck next time, little guy. Women are a tough audience."
wish ppl understood the power nowadays in not giving something attention. things today are so focused on attention and reaction and #memes that the best way to shut literally anything down is simply not give it exactly what it wants. like you arent going to own that bigot on twitter youre going to boost their original message whether thats your intent or not and you arent just playing with ai for shits and giggles you are giving it free learning and data. just stop engaging with things that dont deserve it
neurodivergents will be like “i’m so tired” and then refuse to sleep because they haven’t had enough me time after surviving the day.
