we don’t talk about the sm/dp series at all really in this house, but you bring up an interesting question here! besides itsy bitsy, has wade seen peter’s dark side? 

i don’t think wade in 616 necessarily has a glowing “spider-man can do no wrong” perception, really - or, he didn’t, before sm/dp rolled around. yes, he’s a fanboy, and he definitely thinks spider-man is more revered and more morally upstanding than him - but i don’t think it was ever any secret to wade that spider-man is a bit of a jerk. 

their pre-sm/dp dynamic is interesting because, as cute as the fanboy stuff is - peter is consistently a jerk to wade and wade does call him out on it.

peter isn’t cute with wade. he isn’t nice. he’s never nice to him. he’s beaten wade up without a moment’s hesitation, punch first ask questions later - probably just because he knows wade can take it. that’s fucked, dude. if it was anyone other than wade, you know peter would pull his punches.

i think wade’s a sucker for pain and is so beat-down by pretty much everyone that maybe he’s forgiving, and can still somehow, miraculously have spider-man on that pedestal - but peter definitely has a darker side and i’d make the case that wade’s seen more of it than other heroes have, simply because peter does not hold back with him.

Some additional observations here:

The picture used in this tweet appears to be an edited version of the promo art they used for 1.9 (the original combat update)

They’ve stated before that an upcoming update to minecraft will focus on combat/pvp, similar to the original combat update- so I think it’s significant that they used an edited version of the promo pic for the original combat update here.

Some other details to point out about this picture:

- they edited diamond armor (including chestplates!) onto alex & steve, despite them still wearing elytra. - they edited their swords out - they edited in purple particles around alex & steve - they edited out an end city ship that was previously obscured by text anyway

Also worth mentioning: they’ve previously stated that they were going to add functionality to the smithing and fletching table blocks in the next update to minecraft, because “We have a great idea for them for the next major themed update”.

With all this info I think it’s safe to say that the 1.15 update will introduce lots of changes related to combat and pvp.

Also, let’s talk about the text of the tweet itself here. It seems to be implying that there’s going to be more resources to be found in the end, so I think we can expect them to be overhauling the end as well???

There’s so many possibilities here!!! I’m so excited to hear more…

The first playable version of minecraft classic was released to the public on May 17th, 2009… so the anniversary is coming up in just 2 weeks. There’s already been some discussion about some event going on in stockholm on that day, so I think it’s safe to assume this tweet is hinting at that. Keep your eyes peeled everyone, there’s gonna be some big news soon enough!

hey all! i just found out the sonoma county black coalition has a gofundme right that’s been open since october with a goal of $5000 but they’ve only raised $55 so far. where i live in sonoma county resources for our black community are abysmal and overlooked, especially seeing as we have one of the largest communities of unhoused people in the country whose population is largely bipoc. i wanted to share their fundraiser for self sufficiency and mutual aid! they also have ANOTHER gofundme that raises money for things like scholarships, transportation, attorney fees, food etc & donations have been stalled for months! our mutual aid network never gets the exposure it needs so please if you can donate or share!!

The eighth annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 10th March 2021.

After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a report summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.

Well, we’re at over 28,000 responses and still climbing. The participation graph looked like this just before midnight:

Not only have we thoroughly defeated last year’s record, I am also genuinely concerned that I will run out of space on this Google Sheet. It only allows 5,000,000 cells and I did some spreadsheet optimising and calculating and I’ve got less than a third of my allotted cells remaining…! 28.2%, to be exact. 😅

And here’s the top 5 referrers:

facebook - 6.8%

friend, family member or colleague - 4.4%

Because the participationship (note: not a real word) is mostly Tumblr (and with a larger proportion of Discord than usual), the percentage of participants over the age of 30 is only about 11%.

THE BEGINNINGS OF KAWAII

No, no, you have no idea. It actually IS the beginning of the whole so-called “kawaii culture”. And it started because girls started using mechanical pencils, which provided fine handwriting. After being banished (more precisely, during the 80s), this kind of writing started being used in products like magazines and make-up. And, during this time, icons we usually associate with the whole kawaii industry (like the characters from Sanrio) came to life too.

And what many people don’t realize is that this subculture was born as a way for young girls to express themselves in their own way. And it was also used as something against the adult life and the traditional culture, often seen as dull and boring and oppressive. By embracing cuteness, these young girls (and adult women, after a while) were showing non-conformation with the current standards.

So yep. Kawaii is important, and it all started with cute, simple handwritting a few hearts and cat faces in some girls’ school notebooks <3

This is also how the kawaii fashions started! Girls began dressing in cute and off beat styles for themsleves, they were criticized by adult figures telling them “you’ll never find a husband if you dress that way!” to which they began to reply “Good!”

All the Japanese subcultures and fashions that evolved out of this became a rebellion to tradition and the starch gender roles and expectations the adults were forcing on the younger generations. As early as the 70s and still to this day you’ll see an emphasis on child-like fashion and themes in more kawaii styles and the dismissal of the male gaze with styles like lolita (a lot of western people assume lolita is somehow sexual due to the name of the fashion, but ask any Japanese lolita and they will tell you that men hate the style and find it unattractive which is sometimes a large reason they gravitate towards the style - they can express their femininity and individuality while remaining independent and without the pressure to appeal to men)

Its so so so important to understand the hyper cute and ‘odd’ fashions of Japanese girls carry such a huge message of feminism and reclaiming of their own lives.

something i think is important for cis people (and questioning/trans people too for that matter) to understand is how drastically different trans experiences can be, not just "this kid got kicked out by their family but this other kid is going into gender therapy tomorrow" but how our thoughts and feelings are different. i'm afab and currently identify as transmasc nonbinary (although that's still debatable honestly) and i fit the description of a trans guy pretty well. i have dysphoria of any type you can think of and i will probably medically transition in some way at some point, but i was Not a masculine girl growing up. i was obsessed with pink and purple and hung out with other girls and liked being feminine. this was something my mom brought up one day when i was talking about my dysphoria. it wasn't meant as a gotcha statement- she was sincere in her confusion. i explained that not all trans people feel the same their entire lives. yes, there are some that expressed their current gender when they were a toddler and never showed interest in stereotypical agab things, but honestly most trans people i've met don't have that experience. i first noticed something was wrong when i was 12 and just hitting puberty. i think it was a combination of new hormones and learning about the lgbt community and body changes that made me realize. although i am absolutely NOT saying that those things caused me to be trans, being educated about other people and myself helped me make that realization. some people don't even realize at puberty either. some go until adulthood or later until they realize. hell, i probably see at least one person a day online talking about their gender and how they are questioning or realizing somethings up.

my point is, everyone's timeline is radically different. it doesn't matter when you realize you're trans or if you ever do. you are not any less trans or less valid just because you feel like you need to catch up to everybody else. there is no correct way to be trans. there is no incorrect way to be trans. you are just existing and the way you exist doesn't matter if you're happy.
