“Probably would have been wise,” she agreed with a chuckle before turning her attention back to the screen in front of her. “I’m just sorting out the post-mortem results for someone who came in earlier. Nothing too exciting, I’m afraid.”

“I’m just going to warn you, I’m running on a good solid hour’s sleep, so if I fall asleep at lunch, don’t be afraid to hit me awake. Honestly.” Just another normal night of Rosie screaming her head off at 2 in the morning.
“Rosie still keeping you up?” she chuckled, a sympathetic smile on her face. “She’ll be sleeping through the night soon enough.”

“ No. He doesn’t. ” The curve of his mouth was sour with guilt. “ I am glad to see that you are not holding his words against him. The cruelty was not executed voluntarily. — I do hope that he will come to remember. ”
She scoffed slightly, shaking her head. “I’m used to it,” she shrugged. “It’s not like he hasn’t hurt me before.” True, this time hurt more than most, but she would get over it. She always did. “It does help knowing why.”

A perplexed look still firmly laced Sherlock’s features; his concept of love was far from ordinary to anyone else’s. But, hearing Molly’s words, his frown merely deepened. He wanted to both explain and here what she meant by her words. She knew it was true — her feelings for him that was and he was truly sorry for the way he’d treated her previous to his sister’s antics. A small audible sigh left slightly parted lips; a somewhat clammy palm lifting to ruffle through his messy curls as his blue eyes looked toward her, pleading with her.
“ Molly please — listen to me. ”
She shook her head again, mouth set in a grim line as she clenched her jaw. She didn’t want to hear what he had to say, and yet she did want to at the same time. Replaying the conversation over and over in her mind was not helping her. Perhaps listening to him attempt to explain would be able to offer her at least some form of closure. She swallowed, steeling herself for whatever was about to come out of Sherlock’s mouth, and nodded once. She would hear him out.
psa. sorry for the unexpected hiatus, muse kind of disappeared on me for a while due to a rather negative comment but back now. most posts are answered and queued to post over the next few hours, just a couple of the longer para threads waiting which i will hopefully get done tomorrow. sorry again.

“Don’t.” She shook her head. The words had slipped out of her before she could stop them, and she didn’t want to hear what he had to say in response. Except... she did. In a way. Perhaps if she heard him out, she could finally get some closure and be able to move on. If it were at all possible to move on. She’d tried that before, when he’d been gone. She’d found Tom, even managed to get engaged to him. Could it really be called ‘moving on’, though, when Tom had been so like Sherlock in so many ways? Really, even she knew now that the man had been a poor substitute for the detective.
“You know, for someone so clever, you can be really stupid sometimes.”

“Yes. I suppose I’d never really believed that a child could change someone that much, but now... even Sherlock adores Rosie more than he’d care to admit.”

Pressing it to his nose, Sherlock hums as he spins to lean up against one of the benches. “Mr Harper wasn’t best pleased when I outed him as the thief in his own case. It’s not broken.”
“Yes, I can’t imagine anyone being too thrilled with that,” she rolled her eyes, but the corners of her lips flickered upwards just slightly. It was so... so Sherlock, to figure out that the accuser was actually the guilty party.

Molly’s lips twisted upwards a fraction at Eurus’s analysis of her brothers. To the average person, both of them seemed very quick, however Molly had seen them together enough by now to have noticed a difference. “Well,” she gave a small, slightly awkward laugh. “It’s a good job I’m not a cat then, isnt’ it?”

“yes, he is scary.”a sigh of her lip before she titled her head to the side.”he’s not a giant softie. he is a giant though.”she commented as she rubbed the back of her head. she wondered why her aunt saw sherlock as a softie. he was funny and made her laugh but he would say no to her.
“dad has already agreed to it.”that was a lie, but only a small one. eyes resting on molly for the moment.
She chuckled at the little girl’s comments about Sherlock, her lips retaining the same soft smile as she leaned forwards as if sharing a secret. “That’s what he wants you to think,” she whispered, eyes dancing.
“Uh huh...” Molly nodded, one brow slightly raised, not entirely convinced that John would have agreed to such a thing so readily. “Well, best I check with him too, yeah?”
“I don’t want to go back to sleep…”
“What’s the matter?”

“You’re scared of asking Sherlock?” Molly shook her head fondly at the girl, a soft smile on her face. “He might act tough, but when it comes to you, he’s a giant softie!” She laughed lightly, recalling the way Sherlock had always seemed to melt just a little when someone brought Rosie to see him. Perhaps it wasn’t that obvious. Perhaps Molly just watched him too closely.
“Yes, though you should probably check with your dad first,” Molly pointed out, reminding herself that she really did need to be a responsible adult.

“I… Have needles,” he offered. “It would be no trouble to dismantle them into syringes. Would that suffice?” Sherlock spoke quickly, glossing over the finer details of the implications. He was clean, he was, but that didn’t mean all his equipment was completely gone. It always came in handy somehow. Even though this was not a situation he’d imagined it for.
Lips pursing together, the barest hint of a meow rang through the phone. The creature was agitated or hungry then; Sherlock wasn’t sure which. “Look, would you mind coming over? I’ve really no idea what to do with this thing, or how to try to take care of it. …It would mean a lot.”
She bit her lip as she thought for a moment. Needles were far from ideal, but she trusted that Sherlock would be able to turn one into a makeshift syringe well enough that he could at least get a little milk into the kitten. Of course, she doubted that he had the right milk either...
Already she was making a mental list of what Sherlock would need to look after the kitten, and she grabbed a pen and paper from the sideboard, wedging the phone between her shoulder and her head so she could start writing things down.
She was about to suggest that she grab a few things and drop them round when he spoke again, asking her to go over and help. Putting the pen down, she took hold of the phone again. “You know I will.” She had told him once before that if he ever needed anything, all he had to do was ask, and the same offer still stood. “I’ll grab a few things from the pet store on the way. Just keep it warm for now. I’ll be there as soon as I can.”

“I know, and I’m very grateful. I would get you all the meals you need in this case.”
It helped that he had a regular job for a steady income—–and besides, the extra money would have been spent on his wife, should she still be around. Obviously not anymore. A smile to clear that thought away, and John placed Molly’s portion in front of her, going to make a cup of tea as well. Mundane things that he had picked up since he moved out of Baker Street, now nearly more mechanical than before.
“Mrs. Hudson said she can take care of Rosie tomorrow. Greg offered too, but I’m still considering the pros and cons of having her in the Yard for the day. I don’t want to impose too much on you.”
She smiled gratefully at him as she sat down to start eating, her eyes following him as he moved to the kettle. There was something almost robotic about the way he went about things these days, not that she blamed him. Mary’s loss had been difficult enough for Molly to process, and they had only been friends. John had lost his wife. She couldn’t imagine what he was going through.
“You don’t have to worry about that,” she shook her head. “I love spending time with Rosie. Anytime you need me to look after her, I’ll be there.” Though she did still have a job that took up some of her time. “I do have to work tomorrow, but I can swing by and help Mrs Hudson after I’ve finished, if you’re going to be a while?” Anything she could do to make life easier on the people she cared about.
