It may surprise some of you (because my profile is a pretty pink paradise) but I’m an emo! I was a teenager with a long side-swept emo fringe, lots of piercings, checkered clothing, and an obsession with emo music. Today I still mostly wear black and listen to a lot of the same music, but I’m also equally a pink princess and enjoy switching between the two. 🖤💗

I made garden art! This may not be my usual craft medium, but as a licensed engineer I have an ingrained love for concrete.

I have a pretty large hosta garden at my house, cultivated by the previous owner with additions of my own. But I don't have any with giant leaves like these, so I took some clippings from the neighborhood walking path (HOA property) where the hostas are practically wild at this point.

I used 30lbs of ready-mix concrete and 4oz of green iron oxide powder. Molded the leaves over lumps of play sand following the directions in a library book. Then let it sit and garden for about 5 days.

If I do this again (likely) I will probably just use a mix of sand and cement; the pebble sized aggregate was too lumpy for this application. The edges are very rough because of that as well but I think they still look pretty cool! Process photos below:

More dollhouse progress! I have a ton of new miniatures to add (got them for free 🫶) and a ton of new shelves to add too! If this looks cluttered, you're not ready for all that's coming... I want the walls to look like Mr. Krabs house in SpongeBob but the coquette version...

The only disappointing thing is now I can't say "I made everything in the room myself" because now I have a bunch of stuff I haven't personally made but oh well, it's worth it because all the new stuff makes it look so good 🥹

Because, my friend, my war on GREIGE will NEVER end.

Historic interiors were filled with LIFE and LIGHT and COLOR. ALWAYS HAVE BEEN.

Part of the reason we don't see a lot of textile art is because, frankly, textiles tend to degrade over time - especially ones that had utility! And yes, pigments and weaving and dying all boosted the expense of things, when we were finally reliably block-printing fabrics and broad reams of paper, it was no longer just the wealthy who could afford pretty patterns!

In the Americas, a far wider variety of pigments also became available because of the abundance of... well, a shitton of flora and minerals, some of which weren't as common in Europe.

WHY THE HIGHLIGHTER COLORS? you ask.

CANDLES.

Those colors reflect candlelight and natural sunlight REALLY WELL.

Humans LOVE bright colors, it's NOT just a thing for kids. We live in a brilliant, vibrant, multifaceted world. We ALWAYS have.
