Sirius was so jealous of James. The Potter family was traditional, but the Black family was even more, and more powerful. The Potter family was rich, but the Black family was richer and much more respected. Sirius had a brother, cousins and a big family, while all James had was his parents, two grandparents and distant cousins living far from him. Sirius was popular with all the boys, all the girls and all the professors at the school. Good wizard, loyal friends and was selected in a house he felt so conected with. He felt home. And jealous. James used to lead a simple life, and Sirius used to forget the jealousy sometimes. But remembered always, as he visited the Potters and Mrs Potter kissed the only child in the face, as James received letters constantly, filled with pride and love for another game he won, or anything else he told them. As he noticed how good James used to deal with solitude, how patient he could be, how he could manage pride… How loved he was. And even if James has always been his friend, there was a moment Sirius noticed the feeling vanishing. Middle of vacation, severe fight at home, baggage made and Sirius out of home, he thought, to never come back. Regret that he brought stuff, since he couldn’t apparate and carry those things as a dog would be not practical. He arrived at Godric’s Hollow, 16 years old dried to the bones, past midnight in the middle of a storm - “the worst storm in 18 years”. Mr Potter openned the door, Mrs Potter hugged him and wrapped him with a towel before making tea. James pulled him close to the fire before taking his stuff to his room, and said it was so good he saved those Quidditch albuns and posters, and the The Beatles discos. They had midnight tea and Sirius begged for home. And he received love, instead. Warm, peaceful and heart-healing love. And he felt pure joy and happines with James marriage, Lily’s pregnancy, Harry’s birth and a house full of love. All because he learned what it is.
