Miss Congeniality (2000) dir. Donald Petrie
The idea of Robby getting an eyeful once he is back from his sabbatical wouldnt leave me alone since ep 9 š
Astronauts are so funny man. Here's just a couple of things I've found hilarious from this past week of space stuff:
It's probably already been spread around here enough already, but in case anyone's missed it; 7 hours after launch, commander Reid Wiseman, dealing with tech issues, uttered the generational quote "I have two Microsoft Outlooks and neither one of those are working."
After fixing the issues that were afflicting the onboard toilet, mission specialist Christina Koch (who has quickly become my favourite of the four) laughingly said āIām the space plumber, Iām proud to call myself the space plumber.ā
On Easter Sunday, the Artemis II crew hosted a makeshift egg hunt, by hiding packets of dehydrated scrambled eggs around their Orion capsule.
The way the crew always makes sure to make it very clear they're in space when doing interviews. From stuff like Wiseman just hanging out floating sideways on screen or Koch letting her hair loose so it can freely span out flowing around her.
While in transit, the crew decided to record a parody of those bad 80s sitcom intros where everyone turns and smiles at the camera.
When the crew reached the furthest point from Earth in the mission, they jokingly clambored over each other in an effort to get to the far side of the capsule, so that they could individually claim to be the furthest person from earth.
At the same time, on the ISS which was at the time on the other side of earth, the 7 astronauts onboard had a light-hearted race to the far side of the station, making jokes about being the furthest humans from Artemis.
On the way back to earth, NASA actually managed to establish an audio call between the crews of the ISS and Artemis II (where they shared the above info), and Koch called one member of the ISS crew, Jessica Meir, her "astro-sister" as the two of them previously spacewalker together in 2019. Meir then responded I'm so happy that we are back in space together, even if we are a few miles apart" (a few here being 230,000).
While Jeremy Hansen was doing an interview, Wiseman and Koch were just in the background swatting the mission mascot (a little moon plush toy named Rise) back and forth between each other.
i just love all the stories about production on project hail mary. they didn't use a single green/blue screen in the whole film. they built the whole interior of the hail mary. the petrova line scene was done practically by putting infrared lights on a chicken wire cage. rocky's voice was one of the puppeteers because he did such a good job during filming that they couldn't imagine anyone else voicing him. and rocky was a practical puppet/animatronic! sandra huller picked sign of the times as her karaoke song and she asked her daughter if it was still a cool song. i just feel like there was so much love making this film and im obsessed
god i love this movie so much
i still canāt get over the fact that they did practical effects!! and there was NO GREENSCREEN
iām gonna go see it a fourth time
The Pitt | Season 2 Episode 11
the siblings ever
What I think is so so compelling about The Pitt, and is so gratifying in the fandom, is the empathy it forces you to have for every character while also forcing you to confront their flaws. We love Dr. Robby and we empathize greatly with his immense trauma, but we also can't accept how it makes him treat Dr. Mohan. Santos is completely valid in her dislike of Langdon and her disinterest in forgiving him, at the same time though it's clear her attitude is the real issue she has with her coworkers, and she finds it easier to blame him. Garcia is right to point out these issues to Santos, but she's also being incredibly hypocritical at the same time because she's also rude and confrontational and she's having an inappropriate relationship with Santos. Langdon is right he's been through a lot the last ten months, but none of that is appropriate to bring up in his apology to Santos. It's equally not fair of her to ask him to tell people his personal information. Like many people in the world, Ogilvie can't empathize with a situation unless he is in it or experiencing it, but once he does, it kinda seems to affect him a lot. Dr. Robby can't handle people confronting things within themselves that he isn't ready to handle in himself, and it makes him kind of drag them down to his level and it's been ugly to watch this season.
Anyways. Lots of things can be true at once, your perception affects your reality, and you can be valid but also not doing the right thing. I think we should all try to have the empathy for each other that we do for the characters on The Pitt.

THE PITT 2.10 ā 4:00 P.M.
not to be dramatic but the reception of dr robby following ep 10 (and honestly most of this season) is genuinely alarming to me
in season 1 we see robby struggling with his mental health through flashbacks, conversations, and eventually his breakdown in ep 15. but much like dr mohanās panic attack in s2, ep 10, the crisis presents itself in a way that a lot of people (gen z especially) are familiar with in terms of witnessing or experiencing debilitating anxiety
season 2 is different, we perceive robbyās mental health from a largely outside perspective. heās lying, lashing out, and denying his current state to friends and colleagues. we are watching him experience a mental health crisis in real time and itās⦠not palatable or comfortable. heās acting unprofessionally, even cruelly, to people heās supposed to be in charge of. itās not pretty, dare i say itās probably not supposed to be. itās realistic. not everyone experiences a crisis internally or in an isolated fashion as is often presented in media.
as someone who works in emergency management (not medicine) heās someone whoās not only experiencing profound ptsd and depression, but moral and stress injury sourced in the work he performs day in and day out. itās an exhausting feeling and nearly impossible to explain to someone who hasnāt been through it. itās scary to experience and frustrating to communicate through- your reality feels fundamentally altered compared to everyone around you.
tldr; dr robby is experiencing a complex mental health crisis and while it doesnāt excuse his actions, it is related to his outward behavior and actions. all his worst instincts are coming to the surface bc the man has been in crisis for months and is ready to give up, he doesnāt care about the consequences bc he doesnāt expect to be there for the fallout (shown in his response to the shutdown and al-hashimi)
the lack of nuance (or even grace) being afforded to the character is yikes considering this very realistic depiction of a severe mental health crisis
i'm probably gonna say very little about fandom discourse around this ep because spring break starts next week and i'm running out of sanity but actually. i love everyone on the pitt being flawed and fucked up and nasty sometimes. i love robby being a hypocrite and repulsed by samira's anxiety because he's repulsed by his own. i love that, alternatively, samira is repulsed by her mother's loneliness because she's repulsed by her own, too. i love santos blaming langdon for her ostracization at the ED and her unwillingness to see that, separate of the langdon issue (however separate you can make it), if you go around being an asshole to your peers all the time, some people are just not going to fucking like you. i love that its garcia specifically who checks santos for the lack of decorum she's displaying in front of their patients in this ep because garcia herself could arguably stand to have a bit more decorum when talking about patients and she's also treating santos like a dogggg right now. i love that mel is overstepping boundaries with becca and coddling her in a way that doesnt allow becca the space she deserves to be an autonomous adult with autism who should be respected on her own terms because mel's also struggling with what it means to be an autonomous adult with autism who should be respected on her own terms. i think there's a difference between a show depicting characters behaving badly and cosigning their bad behavior. i think a good character and a good person are separate categories. i love that this is a show that isn't so obsessed with likability that it keeps its characters from behaving badly.
frankly, i hope these characters keep fucking up, and i hope they keep getting checked by their fellow fuck ups, because that's life, brother. there is no divine priestly class of sinless people who exist to tell the "bad" people off for their missteps. and i hope that, as the show progresses, we see robby, santos, mohan, langdon etc make more mistakes and better mistakes. and i love that this show, for all its flaws, is (imo) still holding true to its premise that people are not wholly defined by their best moments or their worst. no matter how uncomfortable it is to sit with that nuance or how tense that makes an episode of television lol.
'you can smoke whatever drugs you want idgaf' and 'apartment building etiquette is such that i should not be able to instantly smell your rank-ass weed stank through our shared wall' are two sentiments that can both be true

itās crazy how when youāre 11 you think wow nationalism is the root of all evil and war is despicable and religion is the opiate of the masses and misogyny is everywhere and climate change is our most dire threat. and you start to grow up and you think well surely it will become more nuanced to me, surely there must be a reason adults arent breaking down wailing in the streets due to the cruelty of this world. and then you become an adult and you think wow nationalism is the root of all evil and war is despicable and religion is the opiate of the masses and misogyny is everywhere and climate change is our most dire threat
me: yeah, so one of your most famous works is actually just that commission of a woman that you kept. Honestly, it's less of the piece itself that lead to its fame and more the mystery surrounding it, so I was hoping you could clear that up the decayed corpse of Leonardo Da Vinci that I resurrected: Hai detto che hanno chiamato una tartaruga che combatte il crimine con il mio nome?
Hang on let me translate something real quick
Yeah this is funny
