JEDI: FALLEN ORDER ↳ Cal Kestis & BD-1
i’m weeping at these tags thank u
I'm having Thoughts about a kind of complicated post-TLJ au where Kylo, in the process of taking over after killing Snoke, finds Cal frozen in carbonite among his former master's possessions. Of course he heard about Han's experience with the stuff growing up, so when he sees the lightsaber on Cal's belt he knows he has to unfreeze him because the man might still be alive. (It's not a rebound, he's not trying to replace Rey, shut up-)
Hux has his hesitations, obviously. They're still recovering from Holdo's kamikaze move and Ren's impulse coup, do they really have the time and resources to dedicate to th- aaand Ren's already gone and unfrozen him. Well then.
I'm imagining both of them trying to help Cal recover and catch up since he's been out of it for, uh, a while... And of course he was never an Empire loyalist to begin with, so there's that to contend with.
Mostly Kylo is just obsessed with this real life tried and true dyed in the wool Jedi Knight who may or may not have actually met General Skywalker as a child soldier padawan during the Clone Wars. Hux, on the other hand, just wants to keep the new Supreme Leader happy. But hey, having a mentally and emotionally stable Force user on their side might be kind of useful, now that he thinks about it. In more ways than one.
Cal would be so easy to manipulate, too. He’d be blind and so very sick and weak after spending so long in carbonite.
Exactly. As Ren is so busy with his knights and new Supreme Leader duties, Hux is put in charge of Cal's recovery and, er, acclimation. First thing Hux does is have Cal moved from the med bay into his quarters. (Ren is not thrilled to have to be seen going in and out of Hux's bedroom at all hours as a result, the rumors... Ugh.)
Ren is also weirded out seeing Hux being so gentle and supportive with Cal. Helping him walk around, helping him eat and drink, helping him with... other things. Ren remembers getting his face split open after Starkiller and all Hux did was send him rude emails about missing file attachments on his mission reports. Not that he cares. He's not jealous or anything.
Lol of course not! Not jealous in the least bit. But by the time Cal’s better, Hux already has him wrapped around his finger and loyal to the First Order with all the subtle messaging he’d done while Cal was in recovery.
So Hux thinks! But that would just make this a reskinned First Order Jedi au and I'm not trying to chomp someone else's flavor. I was thinking in this one Cal's Force Sensitivity warns him of what's going on before it can fully take hold, though he stays with Hux and Kylo for a while to collect information and find out what's going on in the Galaxy.
Also, much like Rey, Cal can tell there's something going on with Kylo that isn't quite as cut and dry as it seems. So while Hux is trying to convert Cal to the FO, Cal is trying to convert Kylo to the light side, and Kylo is trying to get Cal to eschew sides altogether. It's a mess, hence my 'kind of complicated' comment in the op. 😂
I think I'd actually like it if Cal ended up escaping after a while and joining the Resistance, becoming Rey's mentor, with Rey getting the double-bladed saber we all know she deserved from him.

Some cute Kyluxtis to kick off the new year. Cal getting all the love and attention he deserves from his boyfriends is all I wanna think about for the next 365 days. 🥰

in the interest of covering all my bases as far as shipping totally obscure tertiary property characters in sw goes, i'm gonna go ahead and propose cal × aphra. how do we feel abt it?
I like how Cal Kestis is 32 years older than Hux. I'm not an anti I just find that funny, especially since you like Hux being older.
i have a not-so-secret secret that may shock you......................... i like both. ;) older cal and younger hux is super hot, i love the aesthetic of cadet-age hux with a dignified older man. (like thrawn!) :’) i have a modern-day kylux au where hux married pryde for money and status when he was younger and he’s got like, impeccable sugar baby vibes. (and then he seduces their pool boy, ben.)
point being, hell yeah, i like the canonical age gap whether its 18/50 or 34/66. imagine a former inquisitor cal teaming up with rae sloane to, erm... remove young armitage from his father’s influence and ending up with a lapful of horny ambitious ginger firebrand for his troubles.
Look at her outfit. Like, the complicatedness of it all.

200 hits is generous in some cases…
[image description: a bingo consisting of nine squares. From top to bottom, left to right, the squares read: “Created the ship tag in AO3″, the next one: People says “I never considered this pair before!”, the next one: “You’ve had to write the fic just to have the content for your ship”, The next line starts with: “You have gifs and fics rady to promote ship if someone mentions them” The middle of the square says: “Free space”. The line ends with: “You can sells this ship like you would a car: ‘this dynamic immaculate”. The enxt line starts with: “Learning to draw or commisioning someone just so there is art of them.” The next one: “< 200 hits” and the last one says: “If someone else ships them, you isntantly become friends in your mind”. end of description]
BINGO. Twice, with two different pairings from two widely different sources.
I miss them
