Autumn vs. Spring by Damien Cyfka
took me a while to get to do this, lots of heart pounding when I made the appointment and before it happened, but after a month of having it, damn am I happy.
A splendid owl tattooed on the throat: Tattooing an owl can have several meanings. The most common are: wisdom, intelligence, love of knowledge, mystery and magic. In many cultures, owls can be associated with the afterlife, spirit guides, protective energies, or wealth and status.

Aufbruch means departure in german.
One of the good things about the bad thing of working on the same project for almost three years (more, if you count the time it took to write the drafts and proposals) is, that at the end there is a huge amount of alternates, drafts and unused cues, that populate my computer.
This piece is a slow, mysterious and slightly sad variation for a part of the the story, where the main characters leave their home and set out for an unknown journey. The strings are all vsts, but in the final version it would have been performed by Violin, Viola and Violoncello.
All in all i did around 6 different main themes, this being an adaptation of version 4, which was a bit inspired by James Horner and 80s film music.
a short fanfare for two trumpets, brass and the always wonderful synth1, to look at the stars at night.
a moment not to be in a storm and in a ship. starts with a slow sunset and moves into an action scene, before finishing off with the sunset. for orchestra (minus woodwinds, which is a first for me) and synths.
Work in progress Visitors book for Mark Hearld at Compton Verney
variation on a theme. the world of Aio Drekisbani seems to evolve in some new directions, with her theme becoming more dark and slightly menacing. for string orchestra and gongs
rather straightforward in it’s rhythm in 6/4 and the steady brass buildup on top of a low string ostinato.
RIP Jóhann Jóhannsson.
continuing the trend, that started around last year in my music, this piece has more harmonious moments, coupled with dissonant counterpoint. i kept the rhythm mostly steady with 6/4 (also something new for me, as i usually do a lot of meter changes)

discovered something on my hard drive from a while ago. something i had wanted to do in a while, but don’t expect a straightforward arrangement ;).
