I’ve mentioned this in the past, and I’ll say it again: if anyone has concerns about me, or has heard stories about me, either as an individual or as organizer of WEEHU, please don’t hesitate to reach out and talk about it. As always, I’m committed to having transparent dialogues with people, and am prepared to have difficult conversations whenever they are called for.
Hi @ladyruetha and @jukeboxemcsa , Apologies for the delay in reply - as mentioned to you via email several days ago, I've been on the road for work and have had intermittent internet. Because this is a public post, I have framed the following less as a personal letter (which would be my preference if we were personally communicating) and more as a public statement. After consulting with the WEEHU staff, and several mentors, we have decided to remove Jukebox & Ru'etha from the schedule, as one of the two options presented to us by them. We apologize if their absence is disappointing to our attendees. We would also like to take this opportunity to provide clarification around a few issues that have been raised. Dr. Headcrash has always been on the public presenters list for WEEHU 2017, since long before Ru'etha and Jukebox joined the lineup. He will remain on the public presenters list. As Jukebox and Ru’etha have stated that they will not present if Dr. Headcrash does, we see no option except to remove them. Those changes will be reflected in our schedule & promotional material as promptly as possible. WEEHU has clear standards for behavior at our event, which apply equally to all who attend. Our approach to people who have made mistakes or are in conflict is one of restorative pathways forward, where the parties involved are supported in their efforts to learn and do better in future. Providing we continue to see good-faith effort to engage in our process, those individuals continue to be welcome as attendees. While we are happy to provide additional information about how and why we structure our policies as we do, continued concern raised about past issues will not result in a retroactive change of our policies, or of how we follow through with those policies. The overwhelming feedback that we have received regarding WEEHU has been that it has continued to improve as it has grown. We are consistently told by our attendees that they feel accepted, comfortable, respected, and welcomed at our event, and Dr. Headcrash has been part of that from the beginning, as our founder and patron. As such, we invite anyone who wants to see what WEEHU is actually like, in the spirit of fostering a caring and respectful community, to join us in a few weeks. I'm honored to be part of the WEEHU community, alongside its diverse, passionate, and supportive staff, volunteers, presenters and attendees, and I can't wait to see everyone there this year. With that in mind, this will be my last public statement on this matter. I’m posting this publicly because Jukebox & Ru'etha have insisted upon a response via Tumblr. From here on out, I'll be available by email as my life/work commitments allow, and will reply to all outreach that is made in good faith, when I can.
