What you're looking at is a subtle artistic inside joke within the world of electrical and hardware engineering.
During the design process of PCB's, engineers have to map out the board's silkscreen (aka the nonconductive layer of apoxy ink, typically in white, black or yellow, that is used to indicate components, design, and test points). This is an essential part of circuit board building that is an integral part of the design process, serving as essentially a communicative manual to anyone servicing it, or something fun to find for teardowns. Think of it as a medical diagram to the board's meat and bones. It is layered on top of the solder mask which in turn protects the copper of the board from corrosion.
Many designers opt to put hidden messages, symbols or popculture references within the leftover/non-essential spaces as a fun way to connect them to their work. It's a piece of the artist within the art, and acts as a fun little real life easter egg to anyone brave enough to open up the tech housing it.
They don't serve any functional purpose to the board, but they sure are cool :)

This is admittedly a very specialised peeve, but it annoys me tremendously how "transmit the HTML that will actually produce the web page the user is supposed to see" is regarded as, like, a cutting-edge optimisation in modern web design. Like, no, you don't get to send an empty page, then max out the client's CPU puzzle-piecing together the results of 150 separate AJAX calls browser side. If I type an address into my web browser and the HTML structure of the resulting page isn't deliverable in a single HTTP request, you have fucked up. Start over.
If your framework simply assumes that all 150 of those AJAX calls will succeed every single time and has no graceful degradation path when that's not the case, I should legally be allowed to kill you.

Sure, but you can do real-time manipulation of a page's HTML structure after a static initial render, and the end result will be indistinguishable from the user's perspective apart from the fact that said initial render doesn't fail half the time and set their computer on fire even when it succeeds. This is very much one of those situations where you can have your cake and eat it too.

Fun fact about magnetic memory: we're still using it. Have to, in fact. Flash memory is much too susceptible to degradation from energetic particles if your system is meant to operate for 15 years in a high radiation environment such as the outer Van Allen belt. Ask me how I know. So, all our critical data is stored in two magnetic memory banks. Redundantly (though the banks themselves aren't redundant). And with ECC correction for SEEs.
And long-term large volume backup still goes onto magnetic tape. :)
Thanks for sharing! It makes a lot of sense to use magnetic storage in place of electronic storage in an intense radiation setting like that.
I love domain-specific exceptions from obsolescence like this. It reminds me of how vacuum tubes are still in use in high power and audio applications, how COBOL has survived and is still used on mainframes in financial institutions, or how you hear about PDP-11s still chugging away in some industrial control setting.
men are allowed to like the thing itself, while women can only like the aesthetics and the lifestyle and the shallowest parts of the thing. and this is super good and feminist and empowering and never actually think critically about any of this that’s too hard it’s literally not that deep!
