isa briones deserved an emmy for the scene stood over the suture drawer alone. like the minute movements of her face muscles as you can see her internal dilemma are insane. you're telling me six of the seven supporting actors nominated in a show with a diverse case are white by coincidence huh. thank god sepideh got one.

You Lost Me
Victoria Javadin x Fem!Reader
Summary: Victoria's day off quickly turns into an accidental TED Talk for her sleep-deprived law student girlfriend.
Word Count: 632
A/N: This is my first story omg 😭 It's lowkey short because I'm just dipping my toes in, and I decided to start with Vic! Hopefully y'all like it <3
Victoria had been talking for... honestly, Y/N wasn't even sure how long anymore.
Something about emergency medicine turning everyone's brains into adrenaline addicts. Then somehow she'd jumped to a patient who insisted a cactus was haunted. Then she was talking about cafeteria grilled cheese, which had somehow reminded her of her mom trying to convince her, for the millionth time, that she'd be happier in surgery.
"I just don't understand why everyone thinks surgery is the obvious choice," Victoria sighed, absentmindedly running her fingers through Y/N's hair. "Like, yes, I can do surgery. I know the anatomy, I know the procedures, but emergency medicine is different. You never know what's coming through those ambulance doors. It's organized chaos, and I actually like that. Plus I get to meet all kinds of people. Well... maybe 'meet' isn't the right word because usually they're having the worst day of their lives, but you know what I mean."
"Mhm," Y/N mumbled into her chest.
"And Dad gets it. He says it's my career, so I should pick what makes me happy. Mom keeps sending me articles about surgical fellowships though. Last week she highlighted one. Highlighted it, Y/N. Like I wasn't going to read the important parts unless they were neon yellow."
Y/N let out a sleepy little hum that Victoria accepted as agreement.
"And now my next rotation is psych, which I'm actually kind of excited about because I think it'll make me a better emergency physician. Mental health is such a huge part of the ED, and people don't really—"
Victoria looked down when Y/N shifted.
"You comfy?"
"Mhm."
"Good." Victoria smiled before immediately continuing. "Anyway, I was reading this paper earlier, and apparently—"
Y/N blinked slowly up at her.
"What?"
"You made a face."
"I... don't know what you're talking about."
"You definitely looked confused."
"I am confused."
Victoria laughed. "About what?"
"I thought... weren't we talking about grilled cheese?"
Victoria stared at her for a second before bursting into laughter.
"No!"
"I swear we were."
"We moved on from grilled cheese like ten minutes ago."
"Oh."
Y/N frowned for a moment before shrugging. "That's on me."
"It is absolutely on you."
"Mhm."
Victoria smiled to herself and kept absentmindedly scratching at Y/N's scalp while she launched into another topic without missing a beat.
"So anyway, the psych rotation—"
Y/N's eyes drifted shut again.
"—and I know everyone thinks psych is slower than the ED, but honestly I think it'll help with de-escalation. Like if someone's having a psychiatric emergency, the way you approach them matters just as much as medication. And that's actually one thing emergency medicine—"
Silence.
Victoria kept going anyway.
"—doesn't always get enough credit for because communication is a clinical skill, and I think people underestimate how much talking to someone can change an outco—"
She paused.
"...Y/N?"
Nothing.
Victoria glanced down.
Y/N's cheek was still pressed against her chest, one arm lazily wrapped around her waist. Her breathing had evened out, lips slightly parted, completely and utterly asleep.
Victoria blinked.
"...Seriously?"
No response.
"You fell asleep while I was explaining psychiatric de-escalation."
Still nothing.
Victoria couldn't help but laugh under her breath.
"I wasn't that boring."
Y/N made the tiniest sleepy noise and instinctively snuggled even closer without waking up.
Victoria's entire face softened.
"Yeah, okay." She brushed a loose strand of hair away from Y/N's face. "You were exhausted."
She leaned her head back against the pillows, wrapping both arms securely around her girlfriend.
"I'll finish my TED Talk another day."
Within minutes, the room was quiet.
Victoria stayed awake just a little longer, smiling to herself as she listened to Y/N's soft breathing before eventually closing her own eyes too.
