(Unfinished) Rodger & Toodles - Haunting in Gardenview - #16
The last part I did of this comic before deciding to rewrite/start over with the story. Sadly, I won't be finishing this :(
This version of the story at least. Here's a post I made talking about it.
The lighting and dialogs are missing, but I didn't want this to be lost on my PC forever. I like how the drawings came out, and I still like some of the dialogs in here.
I'll try adding the script underneath each picture, it's uh- kinda uncomfortable to read, apologies.
[Rodger and Toodles walks up to them]
1.- Rodger: Sprout, Cosmo, apologies.
2.- Rodger: Do you know what's happening?
3.- Sprout: Well, we got a bunch of missing stuff and half the toons in here believe an ''Evil Spirit'' was behind it.
1.- Toodles: Yeah! My dog plush, she went missing…
Sprout: You see Rodger, Connie decided to pull a prank on us at the party-
2.- [Connie comes out of the wall]
Connie: Oh my GOSH, I told you it wasn't me!!
1.- Connie: We had this board game at the party. Family heritage.
And there where like- legends of an ancient evil trapped inside or whatever...
2.- Connie: I thought they where joking! Like a fairytale ya know. I didn't expect an actual living creature inside! How could anyone??
3.- Connie: Is it a toon, a ghost a ghost toon? No idea man.
1.- [Connie glares at Shrimpo]
Connie: If only SOMEONE hadn't decided to BURN the board, freeing the spirit and DOOMING ALL OF GARDENVIEW.
2.- [Shrimpo mockingly sticks his tongue out at Connie]
1.- [Offended, Connie does it back]
2.- Rodger: This spirit, has it done anything so far? What exactly went down at the party? Can't help but notice the lights are uh…
3.- Toodles: The evil spirit became the big tree at the lobby and was like ''I'm gonna destroy you''
[Toodles does a little impression of the tree]
Connie: Yeah, the tree was moving babbling something stupid about freedom and that we were cursed cause we stood on its path.
[Glisten glares at Connie]
Glisten: That is not what it said.
Cosmo: Guys. [Cosmo seems annoyed as well]
1.- Shelly: Hey, can we take this seriously? What if there's actually something dangerous?
2.- Rodger: Sprout? [He refers to Sprout, cause he's the most reliable narrator in the room]
3.- Sprout: Ah- yeah, tree moved, told us a poem, and the lights went out a little before that.
We probably overcharged the lobby's generator, we had a stage and a dance floor. Among other things…
1.- Glisten: It was a threat, not a poem. And lights where out in the rooms as well.
Sprout: It was probably a coincidence, that or…
2.- [He stares at Connie] [Connie gets annoyed]
3.- Connie: I was sitting RIGHT THERE in front of you. There's no way I messed with the lights!
1.- Cosmo: Astro and Dandy went down to check the generator. They're still not back thought…
2.- [Cosmo remembers Sprout is worried sick for them and changes the wording]
3.- Yet. They're still not back yet.
Sprout: They better be back soon, or else I'll be going down there myself.
4.- Cosmo: Aw, Sprout come on…
Sprout: What!? We all saw that speech Dandy gave at the stage, the guy is clearly not doing well. What if they like… got lost down there??
1.- Shrimpo: MAYBE THAT DUMB SPIRIT GOT TO THEM, AND THEY'VE ALREADY ''VANISHED WITHOUT TRACE''!!
[Everyone glares at Shrimpo] [Connie and Glisten exchange a look]
1.- [Brightney finishes her list, she seems content, she calls out to Rodger and Toodles]
2.- Brightney: Hey detective duo, come here for a second!
[Rodger knows Brightney was worried about him, he's worried about addressing this]
1.- [Everyone continues discussing the situation as the duo heads over to Brightney]
Toodles: Hiiii Brightney!
Brightney: Hey sweetie. Take a look at this.
[Brightney shows them a list of all the missing items]
Brightney: You know, earlier Finn and Yatta came running from the rooms,
Robbery! Theft! Tragedy! The Evil Spirit broke into our rooms! They shouted.
Seems like a little someone broke into some of our rooms and stole our precious things…
[Brightney is a fan of books and stories, she narrates this as a fairytale]
Brightney: In a worry, some toons went over to check their rooms. some reported missing items, other's did not.
The toons who stayed at the lobby quickly began noticing missing things as well.
1.- Brightney: So! Here's a list of the missing items, as many as I could gather, for records keeping.
And so Rodger has a little less paperwork to fill on his hands once this is over. I hope it helps you in your new case.
1.- Brightney: The mystery of the EVIL spirit, unleashed upon Gardenview,
2.- Brightney: Haunting us poor toons!
[Brightney gestures dramatically as she says all these words]
3.- Who shall reveal the mystery and save Gardenview…?
[Toodles realizes this whole thing is a case, a potential mystery, just like old times. Rodger isn't buying into the ''magic'']
Toodles: We shall!! We shall!! We-
[The detectives stare at eachother. Toodles was hoping for Rodger to join. Rodger is trying to find the heart to tell Toodles they're probably being pranked]
1.- Rodger: Dear, I do not think there's an actual spirit, it is most likely a prank.
Toodles: Uh… I knew that.
[Toodles seems sad, she thought the spirit was real]
2.- [Brightney is annoyed seeing this play out. So with a cheerful persona, she goes]
Brightney: Well, I think there actually IS an evil spirit out there.
Toodles : Really?? [Toodles is wide eyed]
[Rodger is confused. BRIGHTNEY. ONE OF THE SMARTEST TOONS HE KNOWS. Believes on this fairy tale. Is she involved? is she trying to pull their hair?]
Rodger: What makes you think there's an evil spirit?
[She's trying to get Toodles on board and Rodger to give it a chance]
1&2.- [Brightney smiles at him, using her head and eyes, she points at Toodles]
3.-[Rodger looks to Toodles. Toodles looks happy and is deep in thought about the evil spirit] [She's excited about this potential new adventure]
1.- Brightney: These last few months have been rough for you two. After what happened.
2.- [Toodles stares at Brightney] [Rodger looks away from Brightney, then looks at Toodles]
Rodger: Brightney, don't.
3.- Brightney: I think you two deserve to have some fun. For old times sake.
Note: Generally, same thing happens on the rewrite of the story, but the execution is different. A couple things changed overtime as well.
If anyone's wondering, Rodger does agree to investigate the evil spirit!
