Welcome to Identifying Magic The Gathering Colors in posts!
Feel free to shoot an ask or a tag and I'll read the vibes.
Posts happen whenever I get a post that I can read vibes off of, or whenever yall send or ping me in a thing. Please do not send me DMs as your submission.
Tags will explain my reasoning, or not.
Tags for posts are…
Mono, two, three, four, or five color:
Just lists the amount of colors in a post. Same with White, Blue, Black, Red, and Green.
#Seperated Colors
Sometimes, the reblogs exude energy from different colors in the same post. This tag just marks when this happens. Semi rare occurrence.
#In Exile
Msc mod posts
[In exile is a state a card can be where it’s essentially taken out of the game/set aside. Think of it as the Graveyard of the Graveyard]
#Tutoring
This is for asks!
[Tutor is slang for any effect that fetches a specific card of your choice from your deck and puts it into your hand/on the field.]
#Ramp
Submissions and pings!
[Ramp is slang for any effect that mimics the card Rampant Growth, or any mana producing effect that goes outside of the n mana amount, where n is the amount of turns you’ve taken.]
FAQ:
I disagree with your judgment!!!!
That’s okay! I’d love to know how you think I’m wrong, so long as you don’t insult me or smth. Different perspectives provide the spice to life!
What is the MTG color pie?
The color pie is an alignment thing, but its based more around keywords and less of ones morality. The keywords are shown below.
Colors that are adjacent to the others are “allied” and like how the others think. Colors across from each other are “enemies” and tend to clash more often than not.
Mark Rosewater (Current designer for MTG) has written a couple posts on the colors describing themselves on his Making Magic column on the MTG website, which I’ll link below if you want to learn more about this!
White
Blue
Black
Red
Green
WAIT! You forgot colorless!
Thanks for reminding me!
Colorless is simply the absence of color. It’s used mainly for artifacts and Eldrazi (Mtg’s equivalent of eldritch horrors)
It really doesn’t have as much identity as the others. I’ll use it for the occasional post, but don’t expect to see it often, as it exists only as mono-color
What’s with the fancy names for the color combinations?
Magic the gathering has slang regarding those, and it’s mostly just whatever faction represented it first in lore.
Two color combos are named after the ten guilds of Ravnica.
Three color combinations are named after the Shards of Alara, and the tribes of Tarkir, though the ones with tribes are usually called wedges.
Four color combinations are named after the first creatures of their kind, the Nephilim from Ravnica.
Yeah and there’s nothing for five color. I’m sad too.
So how does one get into this hobby?
If you want to learn more about MTG, there’s always cool YouTube videos laying around.
if you want to learn more about the game, the Official YouTube channel has a video on how to play; Blood Artist has one about the vernacular; Rhystic Studies has you covered with fascinating deep dives on a certain deck type, card, or set; and Tolarian Community College has a series called Shuffle Up and Play that has people simply playing magic, sometimes with unexpected guests like Penguinz0 and Arin Hanson.
You could also ask me about my experiences. But I am NOT a certified judge, so please don’t ask me about stuff like that.
I just had a weird/crazy idea, what if instead of identifying posts by what Magic Color they are, you identified them by what Plane the post takes place on. For example, is the post from Theros, Ravnica, Tarkir, or Alara?
Sadly, I don’t know enough about the planes to make good judgements…. Though some random internet person could 100% make their own blog doing that! We need more mtg gimmick blogs
