Randomly remembering how it's actually kind of funny how as far as my family was concerned, it was "nobody cares about how you look" when I was the one who didn't like the way I looked, but "you can't go outside looking like that, people will judge us all" when my family were the ones who didn't like the way I looked.

my parents sat me down about a year ago now to confront me about my identity because I had decided to wear a dress while out with my family after having not shaved my legs and arms

Parts of it they tried to frame as concern for me, as being visibly Not Cis can make aspects of life harder, and even dangerous

But the vast majority of it was them telling me the way I was presenting myself made them feel uncomfortable and insecure. They didn't want to be seen with me Looking Like That in public because they were assuming the other people around them were taking notice of how I looked and making assumptions about me that they just weren't voicing.

I had spent most of that outing hanging out with a group of my friends off in a corner, where literally nobody was paying any attention to us. My parents were likely the only ones who noticed how I looked.

what people don’t understand about how adhd is disabling is that it’s not just getting temporarily distracted from, like, school work or hobbies. it’s getting distracted/being unable to motivate yourself to go to the doctor, eat regularly, do hygiene tasks, etc. it’s not knowing when or how long it will take you to do something, ANYTHING, and in many cases that thing is taking a shower or keeping your house from turning into a biohazard. it’s about being fundamentally incapable of controlling your attention and focus on anything, even and especially things you need to do to survive.
