The Centaurs Rookies almost never stay out past curfew. A large part of it is because they respect Ilya as their Captain and they don't want to disappoint him. But it's also largely due to the fact that whenever someone stays out past curfew, Ilya hands Dykstra a portable speaker and sends him to wake up whoever snuck out the night before.
Waking up with a pounding head to Dykstra's latest favourite country song turned up to full volume haunts Holmberg to this day.
Parents (Somewhat) Find Out Idea
There's some event that Shane and Ilya are both invited to and in hindsight, going to Shane's room instead of Ilya's had been a bad decision. But Shane's room was closer and well... after a night of hardly being able to speak each other, they needed to be behind a closed door ASAP. Yuna and David go to Shane's room with their own copy of his room key (one that Shane doesn't know they got at the front desk). It's not like they would be intruding, it's only 9 o'clock and they're thinking of getting a late dinner. They know Shane hadn't been able to eat anything at the event and left early because of a headache he was complaining about. So they walk in, as if it's already decided that Shane will be joining them. Yuna and David walk in the room to Shane's laughter (which is why Ilya and Shane don't hear the door open and close). They come around the corner to see a sight they can't make sense of. Shane and Ilya aren't undressed (thank god) but they're dressed down. Half in and out of their suits. They sit together on Shane's bed, half-eaten food between them courtesy of the room service the hotel provides. Yuna watches the easy smile on her son's face die the moment he sees he and Rozanov are no longer alone. "Mom," he says, his face ashen. "What-- how'd you get in?" Yuna doesn't think she's ever seen Rozanov look intimidated but in this moment he does. "What is going on?" she asks instead, ignoring Shane's question. Sure, maybe it was rude to come into Shane's room with a key he didn't know they had now that she could think about it. But when have they ever had secrets between them? And what the hell is going on here??? "We're... catching up." David speaks before she can. "You two are friends?"
Shane nods but it's Rozanov who speaks, "After last year's All-Stars we found out we get along. Who knew? No one more shocked than me. Well, maybe Shane. Actually. Maybe you." Yuna's eyes never leave Shane but she sees the moment her son begins to breathe again.
Follow up to the Centaurs thinking Ilya is in love with Hayden: one of the guys, let's say it's Wyatt, accidentally overhears a conversation between Shane and Hayden on the last day of camp where Shane tells him about JJ's assumption that he has an unrequited crush on Ilya. And Hayden - knowing full well that it's anything but unrequited - throws an arm around Shane and jokingly goes "Well, don't loose hope yet".
Now both of them assume that they are alone and nobody can hear them, so it's just a joke between friends, with Shane rolling his eyes because he knows in less than five hours he'll be sitting on the couch with Ilya in his appartment eating dinner and watching a movie.
To Wyatt, however, this is groundbreaking news. Because not only is Shane Hollander probably at least Bisexual from what Wyatt just heard (and he really needs to find a way to tell Shane that the office doors are not as soundproof as they look). No, they literally forced poor Shane, who has a crush on Ilya and who is told by his best friend not to loose hope, to talk to Ilya about how Ilya is in love with another man.
And Wyatt knows that Shane must have talked to Ilya about it, because a couple days after they sent the text, Ilya pulled him and Bood to the side and told them with a very serious expression that he appreciates the support, really he does, and that he is very happy and in love with a special person but neither of them are ready to share it yet, they can't, so you cannot fucking speak about this to anyone again. And look, Wyatt truly wishes his Captain nothing but happiness. But despite his insistance that he is happy and in love he still gets this sad look on his face sometimes and skips out on team gatherings and continues to follow every single Montreal game.
Not to mention that throughout the day Hayden and Ilya were either chirping each other or as far away from each other as possible. And often it was Shane who separated them with a "Come on, guys, we talked about this", all while trying not to look at Ilya or stand too close to him but ending up staring at him with this small smile and soft eyes every time.
So after the camp is over - and Wyatt watches Shane, Ilya and Hayden get into Shane's car - he immediately calls Bood because "We fucked up man and also I think we really hurt Hollander we need to find a way to fix this".
So four hours and several beers later, Bood and Wyatt come up with a new foolproof plan, guaranteed to save everyone from heartbreak: Find a way to set up Roz and Hollander.
The two of them clearly get along well as the camps have shown. The friendship is real. They're co-funders of a charity. Both excellent hockey players who have known each other for over a decade now. And, as Wyatt isn't ashamed to admit, both hot as fuck.
So, really, how difficult can it be to get Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander to realize that they would be perfect for each other?
Shane, drowsy and high on pain meds, looking at Ilya with big brown eyes as he goes, "Ilya? Tell me the story, please?"
The other guys who came with Ilya to visit Shane at the hospital all go "aww, Hollzy you romantic" and "Can't wait go hear this", because Shane is looking at Ilya with eyes full of love and this sweet smile while running his thumb over the wedding ring on his chain. So obviously they all expect some kind of romantic retelling of how they met or a memory the two of them share.
Instead Ilya just turns full audiobook and starts reciting the first chapter of 99: Stories of the Game by Wayne Gretzky and Kirstie McLellan Day as Shane happily snuggles up to him.

I do genuinely think it takes approx 2 days of hollanov being out for the hockey bro podcasts to start implying that they somehow have an advantage bc they are fucking. as if having sex with a good hockey player somehow makes you better. it gets clipped n circulated online and it takes another week for #hockeyskillisstoredinthedick to start trending. when it finally makes its way to ilya he loses his mind. he posts 'is true. shame @/montreal was too homophobic to ever find out. maybe if they weren't so scared of dick their team would be half decent.' it takes two more days for the slang 'taking hockey cock' to become synonymous with shitty players who very suddenly improve for no reason at all
Hayden who just spent the entire Summer at home with the twins and baby Arthur so he's still in full on dad mode when the season starts.
Shane gets up during the night to get a class of water from the bathroom. And he accidentally wakes Hayden up just as he's getting back into bed because his elbow knocks against the bedside lamp. Hayden, half asleep, just rolls out of bed on instinct. His eyes aren't even fully open as he tucks Shane into bed, kisses his forhead and mumbles a "night night" before he falls face first into bed and is back to sleep immediately.
