agonizing over all the time you wasted or lost is useless. itβs gone now. you survived in the only way you knew how. doesnβt your survival deserve some recognition too?
i love re-consuming media i used to love when i was younger. like wow! child me still is in me i am holding her hand and keeping her safe and doing her favorite things with her!!!!
remembering the beauty i see in everything is a reflection of who i am
βi donβt like writing about my day, but i want to keep a journalβ:
quotes and copywork. when reading, if you find something you enjoy, just copy it into the notebook. you can copy a whole chapter if you wish, highlighting what caught your attention the most.
definitions. look up on a dictionary and copy it. you could write your own dictionary as well, making up definitions for words.
lists. a classic, write movies to watch, books to read, the playlist of the month or just the groceries you have to buy.
maps. when going somewhere, you could draw the route you took or just a map of the place itself. just look up the place on google maps and copy it. you can draw a little map of all the places you have lived or the schools you have attended as well.
photos
take βnotesβ as you watch movies / documentaries. write down phrases that caught your attention or doodle.
illustrations and clippings. if you see an image or piece of art that you liked, put it in your journal. if itβs from a book or from a magazine I would recommend scanning it, thoβ. it will serve as a record of what kind of art you enjoy through the years.
newspaper clippings from the day.
tickets and pamphlets. from movies, museums, transportation.
postcards
records. you could record for a month what the temperature was when you woke up and when you went to sleep. if you do that for a year, it gives you a better notion of the passing of seasons. you could record rainfall and other seasonal changes as well. you could choose something (an animal, a plant, an item or object) and write down every time you see it.
rubbings of leaves, coins, landmarks.
count. thereβs a scene in the movie Coraline (2009) where Coralineβs dad tells her to go count the windows. you could do the same type of counting game if you are bored and write down.
mindmaps/sketchnotes + timelines of books, movies, music albums.
collages
pressed leafs and flowers
your collections. if you collect anything you could write down an inventory or maybe try to draw the items.
recipes. write down recipes and give it a score every time you try it. you could do the same for drinks you try out.
stickers
comic strips. you can find a bunch of it online, glue your favorites in your notebook.
SO much about doing well is just not even giving your brain the time to sabotage you. Like deciding to just get started on a task before your brain could conjure up thoughts like βbut thereβs always tomorrowβ βruminate on this pointless thing insteadβ like sometimes you genuinely just have to put pen to paper and do
probably the best advice I've ever got was from my grandpa when I moved from my town and started a university, he told me to leave the house everytime when I start to feel down, just to go to the park, a supermarket, a bookstore, to even drive in a bus or tram, just be around other people because staying at home all the time kills you; and you know he was right
Itβs true. And slowly you transform your home from a safe space to a scary one and thatβs the worst space to be in. Your home should be refuge from the many not a hole your scared to crawl in and out ofβ€οΈβ€οΈ
So your Spotify Wrapped Kind of Sucked
This is probably our cosmic punishment for relying on such a shady platform. But still: I have this whole year of data? Just sitting there? I'd like to do something with it?

Or Instead: Obscurify
Or: Instafest
mine cuts off weirdly for some reason, but my computer is ancient so that's probably it.
Or: Iceburgify
And how about: Volt.fm
OR GET ROASTED
Go forth and make data visualizations!
waiting for my turn to speak in a conversation and trying not to interrupt literally feels like I'm trying to jump into a game of double dutch
me trying to use my abysmal social skills
why does it feel morally wrong to spend all day in bed or at home. like i do it often but the whole time im wracked with guilt. it's literally not hurting anybody
it's okay if you thought you were over it but it hits you all over again. it's okay to fall apart even after you thought you had it under control. you are not weak. healing is messy. there is no timeline for healing.
You have probably heard a lot about inner child work for healing trauma, but have you ever heard about inner teen work? Lots of us were hurt as teenagers, through family, bullying, bad school experiences, toxic relationships and so on. Many of us missed experiences like experiencing with fashion and makeup and hair dye, watching cringey teen movies, listening to certain bands, using certain websites or games, social media, drawing bad art and decorating our rooms a certain way. Don't be scared to do some of these things now, even if you are "too old" for these things now or outgrew the interests you had. When I was a teen, I wanted to dress emo and watch twilight and get a tattoo and the day I tried doing these things once, as an adult, it felt so healing and comforting. You still have time.
One of the most profound messages I think you can learn as a people pleaser in recovery is that even if you police yourself every single moment as to not offend anyone and to be generally likable, some people will hate you and want you to be unhappy anyways simply because they can inflict harm and want to so you really might as well voice your opinions and live life loud and proud so you can attract people who will love you and understand you too
