The way he whined about wanting food grated on Lucy, yes she was feeling hungry to but this was one of the worst times to be thinking about food and he was completely oblivious to what she was getting at. It caused her eyebrows to crease into a small frown and she opened her mouth about to scold him for his childish behavior and not listening to her properly when his expression changed suddenly.

This was the exact moment she saw a plan formulate in his mind and his green eyes looked more determined than ever, this was one of the moments where she realized why she enjoyed being with him so much, too many people saw him as childish all the time and never concentrated on how serious he could be when he put his mind to it. Her mind was brought back to the moment when she heard him speak, ‘stay back’? Why would he say that? her eyes widened with panic as her mouth dropped open when it dawned on her just what he was going to do. She felt his arm slip away from her and it left her feeling cold, she wanted to pull him back and keep him here, not because she was scared of being alone but she was afraid of being separated from him again even though she knew he was more than capable of taking care of himself.

She wanted to go with him but she could see in his eyes he was saying this out of concern, she would hold him back with her sprained ankle, she just had to have faith in him, like she always did. The setting sun was casting long shadows over the ground, after a small nod she concentrated her gaze on them letting her hair slip over her face to obscure her expression.

The silence that had settled between them was unnerving but the sound of the branch snapping was deafening and her hand shot up to grab the back of his jacket gently, “Don’t be gone for too long or i’ll have to come and save you.” she laughed softly although her heart wasn’t in it, she just wanted to lighten the mood.

When he carried on walking she wrapped her arms around her body feeling a chill settle into the air, she looked up at the darkening sky and tried to keep her breathing steady, this was not the time to panic. She kept her eyes flicking around the area around them to ensure no more of the undead were lurking around but she couldn’t hear any groans of pain or shuffling of decaying limbs, everything was quiet.

Her gaze was now concentrated on the doorway Natsu had disappeared through, she limped towards the doorway as fast as her ankle would let her and gritted her teeth against the pain. She could hear the slicing of his blade and the sickening thuds of undead bodies (she hoped) hitting the floor, she peered around the door trying to use what light was left to see what was happening inside.

      'Don’t be gone for too long or i’ll have to come and save you' he heard it ringing in his head over and over again. The weak laugh that left her lips trying to make the situation lighter than it actually was. That laugh.. That smile.. is and probably will continue to be the reason behind his powerful sword sweeps. Her words, her eyes, and her lips lingered in the back of his brain burning vigorously fueling the fire inside him to fight. He couldn't die, and he wouldn't. He couldn't imagine the corners of her mouth never turned up right again.. He couldn't take the thought of Lucy losing the constant glimmer of hope in her eyes that sat somewhere deep inside her soul. Lucy with a disappointed and pain painted expression was the last thing he wanted. All that he really asked for was to see her smile more times than he could count-he was going to have a future and she had to be in it. No exceptions.

      The dark red blood splattered the four walls that covered the room. All four undead eating machines were cut into pieces lying in pools of their own blood. His breath came in and out roughly as he stared down at the lot he had just dismembered, he sighed inwardly but that flashed a crooked smile at his accomplishment. Until he heard a quiet gurgling and sputtering coming from a dark corner of the room-there was no mistaking it there had to be one more left lurking in the shadows.

                                                "You can't hide from me," He said silently barely audible at all as he approached the suspicious sounds. Nothing was there he looked left and right a few times it was practically like he was standing right on top of it he just didn't see anything. He looked down in confusion trying to make sense of it all and he came eye to eye with the beast making the sound.. Thats when his body completely locked up. Nothing could describe the flood of emotions now flowing through him at this specific moment. It was his good friend Gray-Gray Fullbuster. Tears started to gather in his soft green eyes, he was only half a body now biting up at Natsu.. hoping to rip the flesh from his bones. He knew it wasn't him anymore.. He knew he was a goner. Tears began to race down his face his body shook with disbelief and despair. He recalled just in that second-all the fights and all the good times that the two of them had together flashing and flowing like one big montage from a movie. His head felt like it was about to explode with feelings and memories his heart beating so hard against his chest. He raised his sword above his dead friends head stared down with his watery eyes into the empty ones below.

                                                      "I'm sorry I couldn't save you, Gray" He spoke solemnly in a whisper as another tear fell to the floor. Natsus muscles tensed as he drove the blade in through the front and out the back of his skull. He fell to his knees his palms on the dirty ground trying to grab on to something anything that would make this situation better. It was clear to him now, this world was fucked up, but he would never let this happen again.. He would never lose Lucy. Oh shit... Lucy.. he turned his head to see her black silhouette standing in the door way.

She managed a small smile at his compliment, it warmed her heart to know her words did have some sort of effect, his expression didn’t seem as worn out and his step had a bit more of a lift to it. She was never going to give up hope whilst he was beside her, he always had so much strength inside him that she found it a blessing she had been thrown into this chaos with him. If it had been anyone else she dread to think where she’d be right now, her gaze drifted to some corpses littering the side of the road, the crimson blood was a sharp contrast to their pale skin which was already beginning to deteriorate and slip away from the bone.

'That could of been me…or Natsu.' Was the one thought that crossed her mind but she quickly looked away as a frown crossed her face again.

He was always so confident in himself it could be very annoying, through all the years they’d been friends…no best friends his attitude hadn’t changed much but she really wouldn’t have it any other way, he brought out the more relaxed side of her and showed her what it was like to actually live.

When she heard his stomach it made her mind think of food, they’d ran out of supplies except for water but hopefully they would find something in the building which was so close she could feel her heart jumping at the possibility of safety and closure, even if it was only for one night.

"I’m going as fast as I can.." she grumbled this under her breath as she tried to keep up with his pace and fight back the urge to cry out in joy as the building stood meters away from them.

"Wait—" her steps came to a halt and she gripped his shoulder to stop him as well "What if there’s something in there?" she shifted her weight to a more comfortable position whilst they stood still, the orange glow of the setting sun was beating down on her face as she silently surveyed the building.

      He heard her complain silently about her predetermined pace but he couldn't help but continue at the rate he was already going. He could only imagine falling onto the floor - hard or not - and for the first time all day actually taking a breather. Just the thought sort of made him want to collapse over in utter exhaustion like an old abandoned building with broken down foundation, but he would keep standing for the sake of Lucy. He would get her safely into whatever shelter would keep her protected from the horrors that now hung in the air everyday. Her body was still draped across him, but he didn't mind even in the slightest. He liked being so close without it being awkward, and to think he could be here with someone else was unfathomable. In some strange sense he actually enjoyed being her crutch. The soft breeze felt like ecstasy on his heated sweat soaked skin  the orange and pink blending sweetly together toward the horizon everything was hued in its glorious colorful glow.

      With the wind came the smell of the deceased that he kept trying to ignore mainly because the thought of rotting flesh and food at the same time made him want to gag. He was so distracted and lost in thought his mouth was watering as he wondered about what kind of dinner they could possibly have. Thats when she suddenly grabbed a hold of him he turned around as soon as he heard her hushed word 'Wait---' Meeting her gaze he followed it over to where they were planning on staying for the night in confusion. For a second he stayed focused on her honey colored eyes that seemed now to glimmer yellow along with the setting sun.

                                                "Wait for what?" He whined looking a little agitated not quiet understanding what she had meant "I'm starving ya know!" Considering the stars would be scattered across the darkened sky soon.. Natsu knew they really needed to get a move on. 'What if there's something in there?' Now it all came together in his head.. the fear that plagued the blondes eyes and the rickety looking structure that was now right in front of them. His facial features shifting from annoyed to serious in the matter of seconds. His hand magnetically shot down to his katanas handle and got a tight hold on it veins popping out of his forearm-his knuckles turning white. If there was one thing he was great at-it was swordsmanship. He had always been very agile and light on his feet so he knew one or two monsters couldn't get in the way of his undying will to find some food and get some rest.

      "Maybe you should stay back and I should go an check?" He offered hoping that it wasn't offensive. He didn't want her to think he was saying she couldn't handle things, but she was already injured and he couldn't handle losing her now. Not like this.

                                                  "I can handle this" he took a step forward a branch breaking under his weight - confidence so clear on his face as he slowly unsheathed his blade. He began to make his way toward the entrance, and to no shock he heard some moaning but everything past the door way was nothing but a big blurry shadow. He wasn't afraid.. That wasn't the word to describe his feelings at this exact point. More so, he was determined to take down whoever or whatever stood in his way.

       "Gwahh!" Natsu was now soaked and shivering "What the hell is your problem man!" Fire falling out of his mouth his eyes like daggers. "You can't put me out that easy!" He yelled and put his face only inches from grays-veins visible on his forehead. He was now completely engulfed in his own flames obviously extremely infuriated. He slipped behind him quickly flame in hand and set fire to his boxer shorts.

                                                "How yah like me now?!" He laughed hysterically.

Natsu stormed into the guild hall and started to scan over the faces looking for one in particular-Gray. Thats when he met eyes with the rain woman who seemed to always be lurking behind almost more than his own shadow. 

                                           "Hey" he walked right up to the blue haired girl with no caution at all and began once again to look around, "Do you have any clue where Gray is?" He questioned a hint of anger obviously in his tone.
