āWe want main female leads that are complex and compelling! We donāt want the same girl boss and/or perfect female lead BS we get over the years!ā
People you couldnāt even handle these ladies.
āVivziepop doesnāt know how to write women!ā
Naw, I just think you donāt appreciate having a female character that isnāt 100% good or doesnāt submit to men.
Charlie: Literally doesn't do anything despite being the princess of Hell. She doesn't help the sinners to redeem themselves if not through patronizing methods ("just say sorry" "stop with sex and drugs"). Doesn't use her authority on the Overlords abusing their powers because that would be too mean (even if they harm her friends) but act like a pretentious arrogant towards the angels. Refuses to listen.Doesn't even bother to know what these sinners have done to gain Hell in the first place despite wanting to redeem them. Basically, doesn't care about Angel Dust getting abused and leaves him to his fate of being SA by Valentino. Blame everyone else for her mistakes. Cares more about the reputation of her hotel than doing anything concrete about her ideals.
Vaggie: She may not be submissive to men, but dear god, she's incredibly submissive to Charlie. The narrative doesn't even bother to make her exorcist past a big deal. Got her wings cut off for sparing a child-sinner, but she doesn't seem to have any of these sinners she killed for years in her conscience. She doesn't know that angel weapons can harm angels, even though Lute (an angel) harmed her. Her only character is being Charlie's love interest. Despite knowing that these exorcists are abused victims like her, she happily joins Charlie in a war against them, brutally murdering them.
Millie: 90% of her character is being Moxxie's fiancee. Is not bad that she's a good wife to Moxxie, but that's about it for her.
Loona: The show tries very hard to paint her as someone who is tough outside but fragile inside, but she's physically abusive to Blitzo when she gets mad and bullies Moxxie. All her abusive moments are played for gags, which makes her moments of softness look too forced and superficial. She's the embodiment of modern Bart Simpsons.
Here's better written female leads
so in other words charlie is still not going to retain a single one of the hard-hitting lessons she learned from the previous seasons and is going to spend the entire season learning how to be a good friend/princess ONCE AGAIN. show of the century, you guys.
wanted 2 doodle a hair swap between jolyne and ibuki cause i feel like they'd be friends ...
do y'all think the next nick kroll production is gonna be about sexual machines if mating season doesn't work out
For anybody not caught up: Tennessee just passed a new map that pretty much makes it so black neighborhoods have no power in local votes. Two things about this. While protestors were chanting "No Jim Crow", white Tennessee lawmakers were caught laughing on video. On top of this, Representative Justin Pearson and his brother KeShaun Pearson were arrested for trying to give their takes on the matter (which is not only their legal right but literally his job). If you give a shit about black people, help fight this. We can't allow a return to Jim Crow.
i really don't wanna talk about noir II's corny, auraless death (my shock is transcendent right now because my hopeful ass was banking on him at least killing kevin before the show's end) but as a day one black noir enjoyer i DO like the parallel where both noirs were killed by the member of the seven they were close to, with some kind of front body injury.
i also really like how it was noir II's biggest personal flaw that ended up getting him killed- his inability to assimilate to his role as black noir. the talking specifically but also generally being inable to exude the same confidence and awareness of surroundings that earving had.
can we start a petition to keep people with no media literacy/plot cognition capabilities out of fandom spaces cause...
update: the person sent me five paragraphs detailing how the writers are dumb and that there were numerous ways sage could have fucked off to be alone if that's what she wanted, despite me detailing how it ISN'T what she actually wants. i genuinely can't believe there are people who don't get the context of her not JUST wanting to be alone, she also wants humanity to suffer!!!
To anyone thatās saying āwell at least vivziepop isnāt racistā due to the recent events involving gooseworx here are some things to remind yāall that she isnāt so different from her friend
Viv has made fanart for a YouTuber who has done black face
Viv has portrayed voodoo as dark demonic magic with her alastor which mind you is a white men still being voiced by a white guy
In a old stream one of her old friends said a racial slur and she laughed at it which the video is unfortunately delete but I remember someone posting the video last year so to person who has the video please send it to me
Viv likes to fetishized poc people and write them in a harmful stereotype way niftty is asian but looks like a child who is obsessed with cleaning vaggie is a Latina but only speaks in her language when she is upset and is overly devoted to her white girlfriend and the list goes on
So no viv isnāt different from gooseworx so yāall need to stop saying that
Also we shouldn't praise people for not being racist (unless MAYBE in special cases where someone escapes the attempted indoctrination of their family) because being non-racist is not hard!!! Stop giving creators praise for what is basic moral conduct!! Vivziepop is still problematic and does not deserve flowers for something as small as not laughing at the n-word!!!
BARBIE GIRLFRIEND. BARBIE GIRLFRIEND. SAPPHIC RELATIONSHIP REP IN HELLUVA!!!
casual reminder that just because the tadc finale theater screening dates have been extended doesn't mean you don't have to be careful about spoilers!!
hopefully i understood the article right- i believe it said the screening dates were either pushed forward or extended so that the finale is showing in theaters closer to the youtube release. whichever is the case, the theater release coming closer to the web release does NOT mean it's cool to post blatant spoilers on social media! exhibit the same etiquette you'd like people to do when any new episode of a show comes out and warn people if you're posting any content pertaining to the finale! for tumblr users specifically, start using the line break feature and BE CAREFUL OF WHAT TAGS YOU'RE USING!!! give it at least a week before you go and put your posts in the general fandom tag, try to stick to tags that specify the content is about the finale!!
"what's the worst thing jax has ever done?" "you'll get to see that with your very own eyes" so either we've seen it and the worst thing was jax choosing to trap them all in the circus or it's coming and the worst is jax crashing out in the finale and killing everyone. nice.
finished creature commandos and it overall gets 3½ stars from me. the character backstories were the strongest part of the show but unfortunately the characters (save for bride and weasel) didn't really feel super characterized outside of them. i'll post a cleaner cut of my opinions on the characters later.
Spoilers for Creature Commandos
I saw a post on her critiquing James Gunnās portrayal of women in his show Creature Commandos. This post states that he usually does a very good job of writing women, but this just isnāt it and cites Princess Ilanaās sexual advances towards Flag, Ninaās nude portrayals in the bath, The Brideās backstory, and Amanda Wallerās comments on Circeās outfit. And while all these criticisms are completely valid I would like to raise a point that these scenes exist to critique the way women are viewed not just in society, but especially in comics
Creature Commandos hinges on women. Women are the center of everything.
Firstly, we have The Bride, who many point out does not even have her own name. She is made for a person who does not care for her or anyone yet feels entitled to her to the point of pursuing her for centuries, determined to capture her even if he has to knock her unconscious to do it. She is groomed by her father and taken advantage of. Ericās continued pursuant of her leads to him teaming up with Flag.
Next, we have Rick Flag who initially comes off as a stand up guy. He doesnāt like the sexual advances of Princess Ilana⦠until he does. Itās repeated that heās a much older man, which while heās hot, leads to him infantilizing her. He views her as this innocent princess which is why Circeās vision causes him to flip out and show his true colors. He immediately tries to accuse Circe of lying, and when no one believes him states that Themyscira isnāt event real, to which he has to be reminded that it is. His next action is then to team with Eric and try to discredit the expert on Themyscira. He refuses to see women outside of how he wants to see them, and while heās not entitled and violent like Eric they are teamed up together thematically for a reason because they will burn the world down to get the girl they believe is theirs whether that girl exists or not.
On that topic, Themyscira is brought up as a recurring theme throughout the show. Almost every episode it is brought up in some capacity and itās very existence is constantly called into question by the men of the series. The news anchor says it may not exist despite the fact that Circe is there in the present. Rick Flag denies it exists, and must be reminded it is. Despite this he stalks a woman and breaks into her house to prove that 1. Sheās full of shit and 2. Sheās not a real expert. When Themyscira is acknowledged to exist it is met with blatant misogyny.
The picture used on the news is of girls in bikinis. The Sons of Themyscira feel entitled to it because it is a land of all women. Even when Flag is corrected by someone about Themysciraās existence that man then says that a land of women sounds like heaven, implying sex. Even Waller comments on the inherent sexuality of Circeās costume.
To that comment, I think it is meant to point out how sexualized female characters are. Something we saw with Suicide Squad (2016) vs Birds of Prey, is a break down of the male versus female gaze. What does a womanās outfit look like when itās designed for sex appeal vs practicality. I think Wallerās call to attention to Circeās outfit is to call into question would SHE dress herself this way? Obviously male artists are going to draw her that way, but why does SHE choose it. It meta-reflects how women are being portrayed in comics especially when most female costumes start out hyper-sexualized.
Finally, Nina nude. I think, once again, this is done intentionally and on purpose. Nina is the only character who does not want to kill. She hasnāt. She has no abilities outside of the water and really shouldnāt be on the team. Sheās vulnerable, but you donāt see how vulnerable she really is until itās shown her naked, cramped into a tiny bathtub. Sheās alone and out of place despite literally being in her element, and she still has no protection. She is physically vulnerable the way the The Bride, Ilana, Circe and all women are vulnerable to the male gaze and menās attitudes towards them.
Female solidarity is what keeps the plot moving, and male Interference is what creates the drama and conflict. Circe views Ilana as a literal threat, not just a helpless princess. Amanda Waller believes Circe immediately, and when there are still doubts she calls in an expert. She trusts The Bride to lead the team because the Bride wonāt fuck Ilana. The Bride looks after and protects Nina because she knows Nina isnāt supposed to be in jail or in a combat situation at all. However, Flagās infantilization of Ilana + Ericās violent entitlement towards The Bride has led to a horrible team which have jeopardized the mission and may have caused Circeās future to come true.
In conclusion, let James Gunn cook.
i've started watching creature commandos and while it's interesting enough for me to keep going with it, the dialogue (so far anyway, i'm only halfway through the second episode) in any ongoing conversation feels ingenuine (best case scenario) or dumb (worse case scenario). i'd be snarky as hell if i had to witness any of the conversations within the universe, they feel so scripted and make the characters feel more like stereotypes than actual characters than they already do.
do y'all think there's a chance of the tadc theatrical release coming back to theaters if it's extremely successful, even though it's stated to be a limited release š¤
now that we've got actual confirmation... HELL YEAH TADC IS COMING TO THEATERS!!! i hope this means the group will end up escaping the circus after all, and i'm curious about jax's face being all over the poster. maybe he's gonna sink back into his villain role? trying to keep them all in the circus (again) because he still can't accept the reality of his situation?
