#something something bella finally becoming aware of things #about how reckless she’s been acting lately #she almost died #and someone died for real #thinking about harry’s death and the pain leah and seth must be feeling #LEAH IS MY AGE #leah is so young and going through all that and she will never get her father or her life back #but bella can #bella can learn how to leave the past behind and start living #bella thinking about telling jake everything #bella thinking about moving on with jake because she knows he can help her do that #bella having character development #bella thinking about healing and moving forward #and then all of that flying out the window when alice returns
It's always ironic that Bella disliked the rain of Forks, then decided to become a vampire and spend forever living in the eternal lands of clouds and drizzle.
Bella disliked the cold and then she became cold forever
Bella disliked the rain and clouds and she chose a life without sunshine (publicly at least)
Bella was a straight A student and her entire plan after high school was to go live in the woods with her boyfriend and his family forever
Bella loved her huge ugly truck and then a year and some change later she drives around in luxury vehicles only
Bella didn’t want to get married young and then she got married at eighteen
Bella didn’t want to have kids and she ended up dying for her baby
Bella loved her mother more than anyone else in the world and she will never get to see her again
Smeyer knew exactly how Bella’s story was going to end and could have created a character who wanted all the things Bella got. Instead we get Bella Swan’s character assassinated in favor of Bella Cullen
Wuthering Heights brought me back the feeling of getting mad at films to book adaptations that I felt at the peak of ya novels
I seen Wuthering Heights... maybe I should respect that it was teenage emerald fantasy and leave it at that but i'm gonna comment anyway
what I like:
I did enjoyed Margot performance of Cathy, I thought she was as bratty, intense and capricious as I imagine her; the costumes and colors; the escenography of it all; the music (sometimes); the "take any form, haunt me..." scene and that little montage of them children/present
What did I not like:
Heathcliff returning, after all those years, how so and why and what he does with all that, it doesn't have the impact that it should have, just happens.
ÂżWhy would you erased a whole character like Hindley and gave him his personality to his father, who mostly prefered Heathcliff over his own son and whose death made everything worse for H?you had Ewan Mitchell there just doing nothing, use ittttt.
The whole erasure of Cathy Linton and all the second generation, and Loockwood.
ÂżIsabella?I get taking to an extreme her falling for Heathcliff but that was an hummilliation ritual and all the pet play i thought was unnecesary, besides why called her a ward "like a sister" to Edgar and not just what she was, his sister.
It was just not at all that transgresive as it presented itself, they didn't go deeply there as how obscure and toxic between them and to everyone around them they were, not even in the most sexual parts, it was long and just there without a purpose on its own, when they could use more minutes of that in expanding the story before the death.
Argentina hopecore
Emily Brontë, Wuthering Heights
Quick summary of tonights episode
when usamericans say "the state of the world right now" they just mean their country's current political climate. and when they say "you wouldn't understand what we're going through" they're always talking about something every other country has experienced ten times before and usually because of the US
it's also so stupid to be like yea man the bombing in venezuela is wrong and an awful omen for the future of latin america and the US is a terrorist state and then have someone tell you "so you support Maduro's dictatorship???!?". are you twelve? are you a little child were you born yesterday?
Me: Only deep and meaningful lyrics get to me. Los Auténticos Decadentes: Porque yo, no quiero trabajar, no quiero ir a estudiar, no me quiero casar, Me:
oh come on. what is edward even on about? if a vampire told me that the smell of my throat made him go feral i would probably go feral myself. it would be the single hottest thing anyone has told me in my life
you know those posts that are like 'oh we should cut horror movie protagonists some slack, they don't know that they're in a horror movie'? catelyn tully stark knows that she's in a horror movie. she's the first to recognize the dead direwolf as an omen to ned, telling him not to go south. she's the one who recognizes the fire of winterfell library as a distraction for the catspaw to kill bran. she's the only one of in the hall of lords declaring robb as King in the North to feel the sense of doom as it happens. she tells robb to keep his direwolf close, and to eat of walder frey's bread and salt immediately. she's the first to recognize the Rains of Castamere playing during the feast. she was canonically the Final Girl of the red wedding. and she died anyway.
Edward Cullen would lose his little mind over Hozier’s music
Listen to the man croon “idealism sits in prison, chivalry fell on its sword, innocence died screaming (honey ask me, I should know)… I slithered here from Eden just to hide outside your door” and tell me it wouldn’t make Eddi boi curl up under Bella’s bed and dry heave.
If he heard “do you know I could break beneath the weight of the goodness, love, I still carry for you? That I’d walk so far just to take the injury of finally knowing you?” during New Moon he would’ve immediately booked a flight to Italy
Think of all the arguments about becoming a vampire Bella could’ve saved herself if she could’ve hit Edward with ye olde “heaven is not fit to house a love like you and I”
If New Moon was written in 2023, Edward would start singing I, Carrion (Icarian) softly when Bella finds him in Volterra and he believes he’s dead and somehow reunited with her in heaven. Btw
Look me in the eye and tell me the first three verses weren’t Edward’s original intended wedding vows until Emmett and Jasper read them and went “that’s a little intense buddy”.
Tell me the two verses on the right aren’t ripped straight from his diary. Right down to the emo existential tangent that wraps up with a despondent, dismal “…anyway”. Go on. Say it to my face. Say it. Out loud
I think— no, I know, if Edward Cullen were to write a song with lyrics, both sonically and lyrically it’d be a cross between From Eden and To Someone From a Warm Climate
@effyzgirl idk why i'm just seeing this but YES Edward Anthony "i am a soulless monster and Bella's love for me is my only redeeming quality" Masen Cullen would Feel Things listening to the "if the Lord don't forgive me, I'd still have my baby and my babe would have me" song
@edwardsparklehands Honestly the answer is it’s so on-the-nose. It’s low-hanging fruit. Not that there’s anything wrong with that but what is there left to say that isn’t already spelled out
Like. c’mon. “I know who I am when I’m alone, I’m something else when I see you”. Mr. Melodramatic brooding Byronic hero literally losing his mind and the moment Bella walks in front of a damn fan on a literal level. After every one of their conversations from there on out he can hardly recognize himself, for better or worse.
The thing about Edward’s self-torment is that he doesn’t just talk about himself as a beast regarding his literal thirst; he also thinks himself a monster for giving into the most innocuous urges to talk to Bella, to smile at her. He hates himself for wanting to hold her damn hand. His ~inner monster~ is talked about in a way that makes him seem primal and feral yet it’s the same drive that has him putting on a leash and handing it right over to Bella. He’s desperate and dangerous; powerful and utterly pathetic. A predator begging for scraps. He’s entirely helpless to stop himself so of course he’s going to beg her to send him away over and over. Leave it to the land, this is what it knows /…/ Honey, don’t feed me, I will come back. His growing affection is a threat, a curse, a burden as much as it’s a promise. Please just put him out of his misery
There’s also the last verse which, to me, screams of the end of New Moon when he’s so sure he’s going to have to beg Bella on his damn knees to take him back (is DESPERATE for the chance to grovel, really) and she’s just like. “No, idiot, of course I still love you”, and naturally he’s a little inclined to stunned disbelief over it and she’s in stunned disbelief over his declaration that it was only a matter of time before he cracked and came back anyway, cliff jumping or no
It can't be unlearned
I've known the warmth of your doorways
Through the cold, I'll find my way back to you
Oh, please, give me mercy no more
That's a kindness you can't afford
I warn you, babe, each night, as sure as you're born
You'll hear me howling outside your door
Don’t you hear my howling, babe?
And of course THE most damning line, Don’t give it a hand, offer it a soul… she really comes in and shatters the idea that he’s some horrible beast at all. Instead of accepting that maybe he’s a whole person, he assumes she’s erroneously anthropomorphizing him. Which… fuck, I could actually write a damn thesis on that
there is nothing more ✨iconic✨than the wolves entering the scene.
