Some of the Maxiel I've saved. Miss this duo so much.
I do love that we have moved from the Max has no friends on the grid narrative to the Max's grid friends help him too much narrative. I call that progress.
Autohebdo July 15, 2026 – Interview with Frits van Amersfoort
HOW MUCH OF AN IMPACT DID HE LEAVE ON THE TEAM DURING HIS SHORT TIME?
This whole year with Max has been a turning point for the entire team. At the end of last year (2025), we celebrated 50 years in motorsport. Looking back, we realize how much Max has changed the history of our team, just as he has changed the history of motorsport. I worked on cars back when Ayrton Senna was also driving. I don't like to make comparisons, but they belong in the same category. Max is Max, Senna was Senna, but we're talking about extremely special people. It was thanks to Max's resounding success that we were approached by Nicolas Todt about getting access to Charles Leclerc (in 2015). Everything stemmed from Max's success. I have to be honest: if Max had never joined our team and had gone elsewhere, I think Van Amersfoort Racing would have gone bankrupt. Managing the finances of a racing team is extremely difficult. Thanks to Max's successes, and because victory evokes emotion, people started to think we could perform miracles. In reality, we were working hard, but we had a magical driver, which completely changes people's perception of your business.
HIS SIX CONSECUTIVE VICTORIES AND HIS GREAT SUCCESS AT THE NORISRING (GERMANY. EDITOR'S NOTE) HAVE A LOT TO DO WITH IT, DON'T YOU?
The Norisring is a very short and twisty circuit, with only eight corners. We were lucky that the rain arrived just before the race. Max was absolutely dominant in the wet. It was extremely impressive. However, after all these years, it's difficult to single out just one moment. Max is an exceptional driver. When he's driving, something always happens. Within the team, we always said that with Max, you're never bored. You're constantly under pressure and you always witness something extraordinary. The Norisring weekend was special because F3 had three races per weekend back then, and winning them all was quite unusual. But Max isn't an ordinary driver.
DO YOU HAVE A PARTICULAR MEMORY THAT STANDS IN YOUR MIND ABOUT YOUNG MAX?
A very special moment from the 2014 season happened at the very end of the year, and I'll never forget it. It was in Macau. During Saturday's qualifying race, Max was in second place. He's probably wiser now, but he refused to finish second. He attempted an overtaking maneuver that failed, and he crashed the car. As a result, he couldn't finish the race and had to start from the back of the grid on Sunday. That Sunday race was marked by numerous crashes and a red flag. We had to repair the car, particularly the suspension. Ultimately, Max climbed from last to seventh place. It's an unforgettable memory.
YOU WHO KNEW THE REAL THING, WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THIS SEEM-TO-BE QUEST THAT TEAMS ARE ON TO FIND THE "NEW VERSTAPPEN"?
You can't replicate what he did. Many people try. After that 2014 season, people contacted me asking me to coach their five-year-old child, which I declined. The special thing about drivers like Max is that they come from families of drivers. That makes a considerable difference. Children who grow up in this environment understand very early on that success in motorsport isn't achieved with the snap of a finger, but through hard work. The Verstappens were always the first to arrive at the circuit in the morning and the last to leave in the evening, sometimes staying until 10 or 11 p.m. They have that drive and understanding of racing within them. That's the big difference with many young drivers today, who don't always understand that you have to work incredibly hard. And I'm not just talking about the physical work in the gym, which is important, but also the analytical work with the engineer to gain every last hundredth of a second in each corner. Max - just like Kimi (Antonelli) today - was raised with that mentality.

Max is not staying at RedBull. I don't think the situation and atmosphere was ever this bad.
I don't know if he's going to choose a different team. I don't know if anything is available to him. But with how bad it is he may actually quit F1.
I also don't think the situation is redeemable.
RB wants Max to blindly commit to the team that was failing him for the past 3 years and also had the last 3 years to try and turn things around and show some promise with no success. The only success they had was because of Max.
Max wants to wait see how the team operates and how they future can look for them moving forward. He's not going to commit if they don't convince him its worth staying.
And RB instead of doing that is actually doing the opposite. They're incompetent on the political front. They deliver a horrendous car that still suffers from the same issue. On top of that they don't listen to him, they withdraw information from his garage. Aprently because of GP that is a key figure there but I wouldn't be surprised if they also didn't want Max to know (in case he potentially leaves). And I wouldn't be suprised if the crash could be avoided if all the information was shared. And even if not imagine how Max must feel thinking this even could be a possibility. That his team cared more about potentially data leaks than his health and life.
AND people still keep leaving the team and there's little to zero quality replacement.
Mekie also undermine Max in the media or at least shows they don't think alike and they don't have the same goals as a team.
They basically moving like Max is already gone instead of fighting for the best driver on the grid to stay with them.
It's depressing honestly. They expect Max to be more loyal??? Max already give them years of his career and they only give him a good car 3 times 💀 Its honestly a joke.
this is so funny: rob marshall is gone, adrian newey is gone, jonathan wheatley is gone, chr*stian h*rner is replaced w an excuse of tp in the person of laurent mekies, gp is holding not one but two (2) positions while simultaneously going to the rival team in a year, 3000 different mechanics who have been in the team since the vettel time is gone, they are recruiting new employees from none other place than rbr's FOOTBALL DIVISION. but max who is still sticking w this team is UNGRATEFUL BRAT.
he's water sensitive
CHARLES LECLERC WINS THE BRITISH GRAND PRIX!! 🇬🇧
he tries and he tries and he makes the best out of it against all odds every time and at the end of the day it doesn't mean shit because the car wants him dead

charles running to his TEAM ❤️
Call this a conspiracy theory but I believe RB is trying to save face by making Max look bad.
I think they know they not capable of delivering a good car so they focus on Isack to make him look better and be more comfortable. Its also easier cos with Isack they are 4 best car and they operate like p5 is a success.
With Max p5 is a failure.
And when Max leaves they can still argue that the team is going to be fine (Isack is promising) and they rebuilding while Max wasn't helping and adapting 🙃🙃🙃
You can literally see how no one is behind him anymore. They don't listen to him, they don't try to figure it out for him and especially they don't give a f about his safety. The crash today is the same one that happened a week ago. They didn't fix anything. And that could potentially hurt him badly. Not to mention an unstable engine and wasn't changed.
It feels like the team is purposely incompetent.
