Rachmaninov - Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Minor, Op. 40 III: Allegro Vivace
Philarmonia Orchestra Conducted by Ettore Gracis Piano: Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli
Recorded in 1957
Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 4 is one of the composer’s less known works. A technical and virtuosistic masterpiece, from the very first performance in 1928 it wasn’t well received by both the audience and most critics. Since then, the Concerto was modified several times; the most famous and performed version is the 1941 one, with Eugene Ormandy conducting. Still, Rachmaninov was never fully satisfied with the work and continued modifying it until the last days before the recording session with Ormandy. Rachmaninov was working on a two-piano reduction of the Concerto before he died; the reduction was completed by the arranger and composer Robert Russell Bennett at his widow’s request.
Greetings, Nagisa-san, and thanks for following me back! Is it true that you like playing the piano too? What are your favorite songs?
Hello, little one. What is given is reciprocated. In this case, would you be so good as to return a name with a name?
The violin is my instrument of choice, but I also enjoy playing the piano as well, yes. My tastes in music vary, but I do have a soft spot for Ode to Joy, Moonlight Sonata, Canon in D Major, Für Elise, and Clair de Lune for.„ various reasons.
With a gentle smile he begins to stroll along at the girl’s side. Shadows unfurl at the lip of a nearby alleyway. As at the edge of awareness the threads of time and space part ways,he keeps the thought of piano firmly lodged at the back oh his mind.
"I would not say that I have a favorite. There are certain songs that are linked to certain people in my mind. A pleasant thought that… a special song for a special someone."
A pause. As the alleyway is left behind, a dilapidated building can be seen stretching before them. Incongruously, amongst the wreckage, sits a piano entirely unscathed.,
A prickle trills at the back of his mind. It is a scene he has beheld before, but not as one of his own memories.
The nearest piano, huh.
"A form of communication," he murmurs as, without missing a beat, he makes his way over to the waiting instrument. "And so Minami-san, is there any song you have in mind that you would like to link us?"
The young humanoid's pupils dilate, at the sight of the newly appeared instrument. She can't help running towards it to touch it, as if making sure it's real. She gasps in fascination while still looking closely at it, to then turn and look at her companion, a wide smile suddenly brightening her pale face.
"Did you do this, Nagisa-kun?" she asks, a clear hint of admiration and maybe a bit of bewilderment in her meek voice "It's... amazing!"
But she shouldn't keep him waiting, should she? As soon as she sees him approaching, she immediately sits down and takes a deep breath, trying to focus.
"Well... since we both like Moonlight Sonata, shall we try evoking that one?" she suggests, as her eyes now gleam somewhat hopefully.
