Will you follow through if I fall for you? - Summary/Masterlist
Hi! Welcome to the series. "Will you follow through if I fall for you?" is my attempt at writing fiction of Jay Halstead x reader. This page would be updated when I posted new fics of the series. If you wanna be tagged for the future updates of the series, drop a reply, an ask or a message. I'd be happy to do it.
Here's where you can find the chapters, in published date order.

And here's a brief note on what's happening there. Definitely a spoiler.
On âWill you follow through if I fall for you?â :
You were a musician/DJ who's doing a gig in Chicago. There was an accident at the gig, of collapse structure, where Firehouse 51 saved you. You got injured and were forced to recover in Chicago for few months. Knowing that you're alone in the city, Firehouse 51 took you under their wings to help you during your recovery whenever they could.
In the second month of your stay, you got to meet Jay Halstead after you saved his nephew from drowning in a public pool. Jay decided to ask you out and then dated you. You were happy together. But Jay didn't know that your stay in Chicago was only temporary. You were never planned to stay in Chicago for longer than necessary because your life was supposed to be in Amsterdam, your home town.
When you were fully recovered, you told Jay that you're leaving. Jay was understandably mad at you. Your relationship was ended on a sour note. Jay was devastated and disappointed with you for months after.
Kelly Severide was the closest friend you had when you're in Chicago. He told Jay that you still hung up on him. You regretted the way the relationship ended. You only did that because you were afraid of losing Jay. Jay didn't believe him. Until he got to see you again when you came to Chicago for work.
You told Jay that you wanted to come back to Chicago for Jay. That you're willing to move your life from Amsterdam for him.
Jay was hesitant at first. But he couldn't lie to himself that he was also still in love with you. So he agreed to get back together and gave the relationship another chance.
On You and I, forever :
You and Jay find out the fact that long distance relationship is challenging.
On I just wanna fee alive with you :
Jay finds out what your dream wedding would look like.
On I'm a fucking alcoholic (with a sweet tooth) :
Your best friend interrupted your date night.
On Miss Americana :
You met Williams-McGarrett family in Los Angeles and they introduced you to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Your boyfriend, Jay Halstead, doesn't know anything about this. Yet.
On Tacones Rojos :
You leave home after an unsolved quarrel with Jay. On your way back, you almost get mugged. You end up beating the punks and get arrested for assault.
Okay, so I'm /actually/ about to write a porn fic to AO3, and I'm interested in knowing what the difference is between the M rating and E rating. Able to enlighten me?
Mature is âand then they made love.â Explicit is âand hereâs how they did it exactly.â
To wit: mature.
He looked at the envelope, spread out before him.
God, heâd never been this hungry.
Could he be gentle enough? Slow enough? He didnât want to damage it, didnât want to do anything heâd regret⊠but no, no, it seemed the envelope wanted this as much as he did. It slipped into his hands, it folded as he asked. When it was time for more, the card was waiting, and he somehow knew exactly what to do. He moved with his correspondence in a dance as old as the mail system, and when it was over, he was smiling and the envelope was completely, thoroughly sealed.
Explicit:
The envelope waved its flap in the air slowly, gently, and he could see the faint shimmer of the adhesive traced along its fold. It was like a taunt, a dare: wonât you? And he would, oh, God, he would, lifting the envelope firmly to his lips, licking slowly at first, then faster, more firmly, tasting the envelopeâs essence, the faint bitterness, the sweetness to followâ
Oh, he couldnât help but smile at how it felt in his hands. It was so perfectly folded. Its paper was rough against his fingers, and its crossed folds shifted slightly as it opened for his eager tongue. Yes, yesâŠ
Now the card, and his hand trembled as he lifted it, as he held the envelope, stretching it wide. Would it fit? Oh⊠oh, yes, it would fit, it slid in smooth and quick and filled the envelope to bursting, oh, made for each other, and he smiled in delight at how perfect it was.
He was ready. Now, now, now: with one swift movement he folded the flap over and he pressed, yes, he pressed the flap down and it stuck, God, it stuck perfectly, and he closed his eyes in bliss.
Afterwards, he stroked the envelope, and thought about addresses.
Instead of Eddie walking in to Tommy's gym to find Buck and Tommy in the middle of sexy times, imagine him walking in there to find Buck lying on the ground with Tommy doing push ups over top of him and Buck counting them off, giving Tommy kisses every time he gets close enough.
Hey, if you're a fic writer and a character speaks in a different language, you don't just have to add the translation in the notes. Use the following HTML coding to add 'text on hover' to the word(s). If the reader is on a computer they can hover over the text to see the translation.
<div title="This is the text in the box!">This is the text that shows in your fic!</div>
Here are some examples from a fic on my AO3.
This coding here <div title="a fool, idiot (lit. emptyhead)">Eyn utreekov</div> will show this on hover.
This next example shows that you can add a lot of text. The formatting is the same as above.
PS: When doing this, there may be spacing issues, but you can edit the text through AO3's html or rich text editor. From there you can add italics (like I did), bold, etc, and fix any weird spacing issues. Just be careful not to delete the coding that you worked so hard on đ
Please please please do both!!! As it says, hovertext only works if youâre reading the fic online. For those of us who have to (or want to) download to read offline, this method doesnât workâproviding necessary translations in the chapter endnotes is important. Iâm also uncertain how this works with accessibility software, so keep that in mind too.
This is a wonderful point that I did not include in my initial post.
Here's an addition of how to add a footer that brings you to the end notes and then has another link to bring you back to the spot that you were reading (this works when downloaded as a PDF or EPUB).
This goes in the work HTML; <a href="#definition1" name="definition">1</a>
This goes in the Author Endnote (or wherever you want it really); <a name="definition1"></a>1. Translation text here <a href="#definition">Back</a>
It will look like this on AO3. And when you press the superscript, you will be taken to the endnotes. At the endnotes, there will be a link that takes you back to the exact place of the superscript.
Above is an example from a guide I made yesterday after the engagement on this post and reblogs such as the one I'm responding to. It goes into alternative HTML and some other basics.
AO3 also has some HTML stuff in their FAQ: https://archiveofourown.org/faq/formatting-content-on-ao3-with-html?language_id=en
Also, in regards to accessibility. Screen readers will only read what is present on the screen, so the hover over text will not be read. I'd highly recommend using footers or just making sure to have your definitions in your author notes or story in alternative ways.
Footers are also more mobile/tablet friendly since they do not have cursors to hover with. But footers can be tapped and used :D
Honestly using a combination of all of these can be useful. Or you can just keep it simple. I love the aspect of customization and creating unique reading experiences. This is something that AO3 truly does allow for, which is awesome!
Buck and Tommy are going out for their first date.
Or are they?
This is the third part of "Guilty as Sin?" series, where Buck is a charming coffee shop owner and Tommy is a smitten customer. Or where Tommy is a super hot firefighter pilot, and Buck is a poor, starry eyed barista. Either way, Firefam 118 always has something to say about it.
