have you ever had such a bad experience with how you were treated at your local hospital's emergency room(/your country's equivalent, like A&E in the UK) that you would literally rather not seek emergency treatment, or travel to a different emergency room that's further away, than go back to your local one unless you had no choice*?

I'm usamerican so my experience is within the US health system, but ohhhh my god the ER in my town is awful. Whether the nurses and doctors are rude or not is hit or miss (some are super friendly, others will ask you rapid fire questions and expect you to keep up even when you're in distress and try to tell you that a pulse of 52 is "within normal range" - I'm not Lance Armstrong bro??? I'm here cause I randomly passed out cause I couldn't breathe, hello???). I've read that they're also Highly Encouraged to not spend a lot of time on one patient and to discharge ASAP, and I believe it - one time my mom went in because her blood sugar was extremely high, and as the nurse was discharging her she was like "well just come back if it gets above 300 again" like it wasn't actively still above 300 (still high enough to be in the ER). I had to go in the other day for what turned out to be a bad case of diverticulitis + resulting infection and they really should have kept me overnight, but I got sent home that afternoon even though I was in severe pain and halfway to passing out from low blood pressure on the wheelchair ride out to the taxi, like these people cannot WAIT to get rid of you. I've heard even worse stories from other people too, some who've almost died bc of this ER's BS. I think it has more to do with how Questionably things are run and the shortage of quality doctors/nurses here than anything, but holy stars. Next time, unless I'm in a situation where I might die in the next 20mins, I'm going to the hospital in the next town over...

(...I guess this is half a vent post and half a genuine poll lol but I am curious how common/uncommon this is, esp outside the US. Thanks for hosting, Mod H! And thanks to anyone who read this far, hopefully by the time this gets posted I'll be feeling a lot better and less annoyed about this whole thing lol)

Not my local one.. but in Kassel at the Elisabeth Hospital. They misdiagnosed me because the doctor in the ER dropped the syringe.. but I was too out to realize.

people have been developing ways of talking around sex and violence in “polite” and “acceptable” ways for forever; there is a near endless well of euphemisms you could use that don’t treat your audience like kindergartners. respect them enough to use them.

I think in the same way there's a 90/10 rule with horror and comedy (horror works best when it's 90% horror and 10% comedy and vice versa) there's a 90/10 rule for some relationships in fiction that's like. Funny story, I went looking for this cursed fucking video recently and it seems like the cw scrubbed it from YouTube (curious, because videos from the same campaign for other shows are still up).
