can i ask what your post was about? the one about 2 sides to every story?
Not to be obnoxious, but you already know what it's about---if not this specific "vaguebook" reference (though, of course, it could apply to a number of situations), then other experiences in your life. It really comes out to be general life consideration.
You (general) follow a specific narrative/agenda, without asking "what is their motivation?" or "what could they stand to lose or gain?", without seeking to clarify or understand the other parties involved, without caring enough to come to an accurate resolution. And that's your prerogative. People are ruled by their emotions, especially fear, and deal in absolutes. But life is never that simple. Truth can be found in the smallest of details that are eclipsed by what has been proposed as the main issue.
What is the truth? Are they lying? Are they pushing a narrative that deceives through appearances?
The whole truth? Are they mistaken, or missing pertinent context/pieces of information? What are the truths of each party involved?
Nothing but the truth? Is there subjective interpretation mixed in with the objective facts? Is the subjectivity necessary as context, or does it muddy the waters?
I hope that this answers, at least in part, your anonymous ask. Otherwise, if you want a more specific answer, ask a more specific question.
Oh my fucking god it's been like two fucking years jesus christ
Here
Two sides to every story. Yep. Sure is.
And from the side I'm sitting on, you sold out your Trans friends and Trans people in your server to secure your popularity with a transphobic piece of shit. That you KNEW was a transphobic piece of shit. But hey, anyone who gives you positive attention, right?
Jesus fucking christ, move the fuck on. This never got blown open two fucking years ago because we didn't want to do that to people, because it wasn't our story to tell (you know perfectly well whose name I censored in that last screenshot, and who you had these conversations with, and they're the person you hurt the fucking most with all this shit, not that you ever cared, and it's them I never wanted to put on blast in public), but now?
Fucking hell. TWO FUCKING YEARS. I am out of fucks at this point.
Fucking have at! Let it be public! Let everyone see how you intended to censor Trans people's art, for someone that thinks 'those people' are overrunning their fandom space, and how you went on to build a brand new server to allow specifically that!
Because don't think that we can't see a direct line between "the only fair way to censor Trans art is to censor all NSFW art" in your comment up there, to a transphobe, and the fucking rule in your server requiring exactly that. And how every time you reinforce that rule, you specifically cite Trans art in the examples.
You made a place at your table for nazis, don't get all up in your feels about how a bunch of us think that makes you a piece of shit, too.
That's not what I was referencing at all, so you're quick to jump the gun on something you don't know about. But since you are posting this publicly, I will respond publicly.
Trans art was used as the example because at that time it was the issue at hand. And from someone I was pushed into a corner to claim someone was transphobic by someone I thought I was close with, when I was trying to find a solution for everyone.
The server I'm a part of has several members who do not want to see explicit art at all, and that's why we censor NSFW art---because NSFW covers many topics, not simply sex. Noone gives a fuck about them, apparently. Trans art simply opened the door to what it means to allow people to have consent over the content they're subjected to, and not because they are transphobic.
---
From the server in question (that was made for an entirely different reason, and who the person in question is no longer a part of, and ALSO that has mods and other members who identify as trans):
The indiscriminate use of spoilers on visual media and text in the NSFW channels is considered a controversial choice to some; however to ensure the safety and comfort of **all** of our membersā **including** those who either suffer from body dysphoria, or who are **repulsed** by images and talk of nudity and sex, we **stand by** this implementation. Many servers treat the NSFW channels as the āSex And Nudityā channels. **We do not.**
NSFW does not equal sexual content; as such, if you will be talking about sexually explicit content, please either utilize spoilers or---if it's an extensive conversation---utilize a thread with a CW warning. Members of this community would like to peruse NSFW content without being subjected to sexually explicit material.
---
Sold out? A piece of shit? Yes, but not the people or the reasons you spout. It was a huge mess that I didn't handle correctly, but everyone else involved didn't handle it well, either.
I stand by the end result of ensuring comfort. Unfortunately that comfort doesn't mesh for different people. No, we're not responsible for others' triggers, but we can try and be considerate.
AO3 fics have tags and spoilers. Art should be the same, because it has a greater impact because "a picture is worth a thousand words" and you are pushing that onto people without asking them. Being able to give consent and censorship are not the same thing. Trans art, as well as all other art, is welcome in the proper place and with the proper warning.
Again, this isn't what the original post was about, so I'm done here.
Oh, you were pressured into calling that person's actions transphobic? So, you're denying that the comments up there are transphobic as fuck?
"Consent is not censorship" seems to be your little tagline at the moment. But you're applying that to people who don't consent to other people existing in their presence.
You want to safeguard people against maybe potentially interacting with their triggers then go ahead, you do that. It's basically impossible in a public server without creating a hundred ridiculous rules that you then also have to enforce on a wide community of very different people. It's much easier in a small server of just friends. But if you're prepared to do that work, all power to you.
But if you've let some asshole convince you that talking about Trans headcanons or art for fictional characters is somehow triggering them, you've left your mind so far open your brain fell out.
Sometimes it's on us as individuals to manage our triggers. If the thing you're claiming to be triggered by requires the unilateral censorship of another person's existence (and yes, art IS existence) in order to ensure their comfort, well... Congratulations, you now have the MAGA voter mindset. All the Trans and the Gays and the Queers need to go back into their little closet. Don't want to make people uncomfortable.
And before you start claiming that seeing other people's Trans headcanons might trigger someone with dysphoria I strongly, strongly advise you ask a Trans person who experiences dysphoria if they'd like to be used as an excuse to censor Trans art. Because I promise you the answer is no.
I mean, hey, you could have taken the route that didn't require censorship, and had a NSFW-non-sex channel, and a NSFW-sex channel. But you didn't. Instead you did exactly what you discussed doing with your transphobic little friend up there. You can try and obfuscate your way out of that with all the rationalisation you did afterwards that you like, but the source of it, and the reason for it, is right there in your own words. And yes, our intentions do matter.
You stand by your end result? Good for you. I stand by my interpretation of you as a parasite that will get in bed with transphobes if it gives you even a modicum of popularity.
You're done. I'm done. We're all done. Let's never, ever have this bullshit darken my day again.
fucking finally goddamn
