I know I've complained about this before and it's probably an unpopular opinion too.... but sometimes I really wish it wasn't such well established fanon characterisation for prowl to completely hate and despise the constructicons and treat them like garbage, both bc I just don't like it personally and also bc it genuinely is just not really accurate to canon?
Like yeah Prowl is not a very empathetic or affectionate person so he comes across as "cold" and he has an irritable prickly attitude a lot of the time, and he's a bit of a tsundere lmao, but he's never just outright mean or insulting to them. Even at the beginning when he was undoubtedly still having a lot of difficult feelings about them, let alone later on when he's actually trying to keep them around and make them function as a personal taskforce for him (when he was not only doing things like smiling at them and telling them he trusted them, but actually SHOWING them a huge amount of trust by taking them on a mission that would involve being in opposition to other decepticons and still being completely confident that they wouldn't betray him)
He yells at them ONE (1) time as far as I can remember, when he was angry about the direction Megatron's trial was taking and took it out on them bc they were at the wrong place at the wrong time, and I genuinely can't think of a single other time he says or does anything blatantly cruel to them?? or even just insults them at all, unless you count Devastator's "only five of me are halfwits" response to Galvatron lmao. The other autobots call them idiots far more often than Prowl ever does. He also never tries to make them go away and leave him alone, or even expresses that he doesn't want them there. Which I don't even understand why that would be a thing in the first place bc he literally is keeping them around by choice??? I just don't understand 😭 they're there because he wants them to be. Ofc they're the ones who initially pursued him, but he could have just told them to go away, and he never did bc he wanted the tactical advantage they could give him.
This is only a tiny moment but just to use this as an example, I think the little "thanks Mixmaster" is very in character for the usual politeness he treats them with in canon (bc it is canon lmao) which I'd say is more or less the way he talks to all of the other subordinates he's had, while fanon prowl would definitely have ignored him or snapped at him
((also it's not related to my point but the irony of him referring to himself as a "good guy" while being surrounded by his decepticon polycule does make me chuckle sjdjsdjs))
this moment is less relevant but he genuinely loves them being his little hype man squad jsdjsjdjsdjsds. And why wouldn't he?? he has a lot of self confidence and is a little egocentric too, and he also likes having his choices validated and hearing people say he's right.
Anyway though, I don't know for sure bc I am kind of isolated in my rarepair bubble but I do kind of suspect this is a thing that happens with fanon Prowl just in general, bc I have seen similar things happen to other characters who have a lot of negative traits or have done really bad things, where the fanon characterisation for how they interact with everybody on a daily basis becomes the worse extreme of their personality even when that's not really accurate?? Like for example, I often come across Getaway in fics acting like a complete unrepentant asshole in very interaction he has with other people from the second he shows up, whereas actually Getaway is supposed to be a very friendly and charming person bc that's how he got away with so much of his manipulation.
I won't get into all of that now though bc if I start trying to analyse wider fandom trends this post will end up 500 pages long LMAO.... But to get back to my original point, I just want to add that this isn't intended to be a criticism of any people who enjoy this dynamic for constructiprowl or anything like that, bc I understand the appeal, especially if you want to go with a different take on Prowl where he's a lot more emotionally wounded by and hung up on the mind control stuff than how his longer term reaction to it was written in IDW1 (and I understand that 100%). But at the same time I don't know.... I just needed to vent bc as a constructicon fan sometimes it gets a little upsetting to see them be just continuously treated like dirt in a fic or AU or whatever, when personally in my humble opinion, I don't think it's an accurate reflection of canon and don't really see why it needs to be that way? (Also just to clarify, I don't mean when he's being grumpy with them in a funny way bc I love that lmao, I mean like genuinely cruel to them and disgusted by them).
Really it wouldn't bother me at all if it was just a few people who characterised Prowl like this, but sometimes it feels like its the default fandom interpretation and thats what I'm really lamenting.....😭
