A man who fought all over the world wearing the uniform of the USMC, from the Philippines, to Nicaragua, to acting as a spy in Mexico City to root out weapons deposits used by the Mexican Federal Army in preparation for a cancelled American invasion that was to be enacted amidst the turmoil of our Mexican Revolutionary War. Ultimately, the United States decided to simply hold what was at the time their operating base in Mexico at Veracruz, that they had held onto since the Mexican-American war, and it can be argued that their decision to halt an arms shipment their, that was to be received by the Mexican Federal Army acting under the orders of then Mexican dictator Porfirio Diaz, came to assist the Mexican rebellion who would have had to face these weapons.
And a man who did not hide it from his heart that most of his actions done, particularly those done defending the assets of the United Fruit Company in Latin America, the actions that earned him so many medals, were in-truth not for the safety of any American citizen, but for the profit of big business. A man of honesty rarely found in civilization.
A man who, upon becoming aware of a coupe against President Roosevelt, Jr., because of that president’s anti-monopolist practices, exposed the coupe to the world, and dedicated himself to a time towards raiding the hangouts of social elites to interrupt their clandestine meetings involving the corruption of police officers, and alliance with mafia gangsters, as an elderly man at the time World War Two was being fought.
Despite all the strong-arming he did for big business, all of that which he came to express regret for, a hero, the likes of which we need today, now more than ever, from whichever country he may arise from.
