As an animal lover and pet owner who dealt with having their moms dog stolen the non compassion towards appa really bugs me. Appa was more than aangs pet he was the last connection to his people the fn killed off. The whole dismissal of appa and aangs grief which zutaras always ignore is just awful and shows such a lack of compassion for pet owners too. I really hate how appa is used to show aang was selfish when he was more so trying to relate to kataras anger something this fandom praises too much kataras rage isn’t healthy for her mentality

And aang def mentioned his people being killed off first. I swear shippers don’t watch the show at all

you hit it nail on the head. everyones entitled to their opinions but behaving as if theyre holy gospel and indisputable facts when calling a character abusive... and what it implies about fans of said character. im not even necessarily a kataanger (i like it fine) but man i love aang. hes taught me a lot. his optimism and love for life, sticking to his beliefs in the world that so badly wants you to become cynical instead have been so inspiring. hell i dont know if id be vegetarian rn of i hadnt watched atla when i was 10. i know there are lovely zutarians out here, but all i ever see when looking up aang/katara/zuko/kataang/zutara is hostility, cherry picking and bad faith. i dont mind zutara, objectively, but at this point nothing is saving it for me

the only hope i can give is that like the antis/ bnfs that were in another fandom i linger in that disappeared some years ago made it mostly peaceful that it will happen some day to the atla fandom like when sokkastyles/fireladykatara/aarsph/badger mole/irohpines leave the fandom if they ever leave. i think it might be a bit more sane.. since they're the ones spreading the aang is a rapist nonsence.

the really most anything think about  some shippers in the zutara fandom is that callingl aang abusive and expecting everyone to agree with them as ifs it a fact and were all blind and sexist for not seeing it   and not just an opinion based on projection 

and i know its projection since i’ve seen those arguements of aang reminds em of their abuser.. and yeah that sucks.   and projection isn’t bad until you act like its a outright Fact and not just venting

it still doesn’t make it a fact its  ust a projected opinion onto a character (katara) who does not view aang as an abuser but as her best friend . I’m gonna outright say it  aang is not your abusive ex boyfriend aang is not kataras  abuser.   Zutara is not the perfect healthy ship that will save katara from aang  applying it real life its worse than kataang i just dont care id ship it anyway cause its fiction 

but  ignoring zuko kidnapping katara twice, sending a man to kill aang / nearly getting katara killed by doing this ..  is very hypocrtical.  

the whole zuko is the savior katara needs is not the hot take shippers think it is either. i dont even care that he did those things or if the ship is healthy i like the ship but to ignore zukos actions while calling aang abusive is very very bias and not a fact..   it was never a fact. it was just projection .

I know what it is that bothered me about zutara its that as a Teen I shipped my version of Zutara where I wasn’t even a Katara fan I just liked Zuko,  cue 18 years later I watch the show and still like zutara well enough and can tell Kataang was canon since ep 1.   But then I browse the tags starting off as a zutara shipper to going into a kataang shipper  with all the aang slander and katara never being treated like anything other than a 40 year old parentaly figure.    Fanon Zutara does not mix with Canon Zutara and is rather boring and just consumed with aang hate..  i dont know how shipping became about making sure your ship is healthy    but all the talk about kataang vs zutara being unhealthy  or sexist to ship is so dumb like who even cares if a ship is healthy or if the creators were sexist they created the show without em there is no zuko or katara and shipping ..    it aint that deep..  ships are about fun not about whats the most  healthy to act all superior to people. Thats my biggest problem with shippers lately.. the morallity complex its so annoying.  and needs to die out.

Yall do realize that nothing is going to be good enough for any of you? Fandom :Crickets/ because remember..     HE ABUSES KATARA Zuko is Kataras only  real friend.   Zuko hates Aang. Katara hates Aang. They are Aang parents, Aang is just a burden to em.

feeling bad for azula/enjoying azula/ being find with her improving  and awknowelging she did terrible things to tyleee/iroh/ katara/aang/ zuko/  ba sin sa/  are not as mutually exclusive as some of her fans think that is..  last  i checked most people aren’t  all good or all bad but with her stans its just she’s pure  did nothing wrong and if you mention her canon actions you think she’s evil and must hate her/have zero pity for people killing in the name of war  because i said so.. and nothing else. its a  dumb take made up of pure bias’s you can feel bad for a character withou excusing everything they’ve done and erasing their agency. teenagers aren’t babies. they have agency

I do not hate Azula.  I hate when fans strip away agency and canon character interactions projecting themselfs onto a character from an era 100s of years before our time.  So many fans put her in a modern 21st setting ignoring that if she was in this time peirod she’d be the one bullying other girls at school not the sad girl at the lunch table.  She was royalty she would be ordering other people around because she enjoys it..  

 Enjoying Azuls shouldn’t meet stripping away her personality to one scene from the beach.   it adds to her character  and is why we felt bad for her but it doesn’t make her other bad actions magially disappear either.     Fans don’t want to admit to her bad actions due to a personal projection which isn’t love for azula its just projection.    Azula isn’t you or me as I was the insecure lonely girl at school.. who didn’t feel that i fit in but im not azula..   and i see fans cling to her not doing bad things as if its a personal attack on them when its not.

   and Azula is only lonely due to rulling her friends through fear. under ozais influence not Iroh not ursas as fans want us to believe

 Katara suggesting her and aang kiss in cave of two lovers: Labeled OOC/  Her being affectionate with Aang /ignored and labeled motherly .. which is weird.. my mom never gave me cheek kisses or a bunch of hugs/ acted jealous when i talked to boys. but  some fans insist she saw aang as a mom despite being 14..   at 15 I had a crush on a 13 year old so the age gap really isn’t that weird. Shippers love to strip away Kataras agency

Iroh called Azula crazy so he is a toxic uncle

Last I checked Azula shot him with lighting two episodes prior to that comment. . So convienant how her fans ignore it and label iroh as a monster for ba sin sa despite azula taking it over and wanting to burn it to the ground . but teenagers have no agency

oh and if you want to claim that iroh got away with too much.. you aren’t wrong he def should not own a tea shop in ba sin sa but i doubt zuko would put his uncle in jail and im not the one who wrote the script. and i feel losing his son was his big punishment for his crimes.

Aang is abusive takes I've seen by people comparing him to their shitty ex and claiming they relate to katara as an emotional laborer ignoring any scene of katara showing canon interest in aang or being kidnapped by zuko

Azula did nothing wrong takes done by people relating to her mom problems ignoring everything she does acting like she's them and if you mention her crimes they take it personally as if it's an attack on them

Until the projection ends fandom will remain toxic especially by fans that ignore any bad deed their fav does and project their personality into the characters
