“love at first sight” vs “slowly and gradually falling in love” are usually obviously mutually exclusive but villaneve is somehow both? like. if you believe in soulmates, they’re very obviously that and they both seem to feel it in that first instant they lock eyes with each other, even if they can’t articulate it. but also, their relationship only has a shot in hell if they figure out how to love each other, particularly villanelle who starts off the show not really knowing how to love anyone

Also find it so interesting that, as the creator of the universe PWB herself said, it *was* love at first sight - but we also got a direct glimpse into how both, Eve and Villanelle, process their emotions in that iconic moment, and that fabric runs through the show in all the three seasons. For instance, with Villanelle - Jodie’s expressions, and specifically her body language in that moment is exquisite - she displays her shookethness on her nurse sleeves and bare arms so clearly. Whereas Eve is a lot more muted. But then you get that description scene in episode 3, and you see just HOW shook Eve is as well, but she just internalises it, instead of expressing it openly like V. But it comes out of Eve when she least expects it. The fact that they carry through on this dichotomy between the two is delicious.

Love your point on how they both are learning how to love eachother once they’re already in love - and that’s such a key part of their dynamic. Will they ever succeed? Who knows - but the joy is in watching them struggle through it, because that journey is so rarely shown on screen, and it’s such a rich and complex playing field. Gosh.

PS: Also, again to Jodie’s credit - contrast the bathroom scene look to the kebab shop look from S2. They are both cinematographically structured identically. But the distinction again, in Jodie’s expressions in both is so nuanced. The kebab scene has no softness or surprise, but a predatorial determination. God, I love it!

In my opinion: Eve and Villanelle leaving those “Sorry Baby” notes still remains one of the hottest things they have ever done to each other.

I was thinking back to when I first watched season one and how excited I got when I saw that exchange between them. Not only did it unabashedly play into the sexual chemistry of these two, with both cheekily referring to the other as “baby”. But it was also hot in that it showed how these two were compatible adversaries. That both were equally able to throw off the other and presented a challenge that both willingly accepted (and secretly loved).
