911 fic ideas I’m probably never going to write….

- Stripper!Buck Buck started working as a stripper while traveling around (it was a quick way to make a little extra money between jobs) but he honestly started to enjoy it and so he keeps it up on free nights between shifts (and the extra income has come in handy). What happens when the team finds out? (Initially unsupportive!Fire Fam but they get it together eventually) inspired by Pink Pony Club by Chappell Roan

- Buck and Eddie are both pretty fluent Spanish speakers (they both have the grammar and pronunciation although significantly different accents)but they have very limited vocabulary overlap. (Eddie spoke Spanish regularly growing up but didn’t have much opportunity as an adult, he has no idea how to talk about things like taxes, rent, he couldn’t buy a house, manage a bank account, etc. in Spanish if his life depended on it. And he has a very limited vocabulary for sex/sexuality. Buck learned Spanish from having to rent an apartment, get a job, manage his money, etc. in Spanish, he also has a pretty solid vocabulary for sex, but not any vocabulary for family, relationships, hobbies, etc.) Basically all Buck and Eddie can talk about in Spanish is food. Hilarity ensues. (Points for Eddie watching Buck comb through a leasing agreement or something in Spanish and being utterly confused but possibly a little turned on)

- The team finds out that Buck spent the bulk of his twenties homeless. (Maybe after a joke about how attached he is to his car?)

- Buck and Eddie get Chris an adaptive bike, family fun is had decorating it to Chris’s liking.

- Taylor finds out about Dr. Wells and goes on a mission to destroy her career. (Buck/Taylor friendship, possible Buck/Eddie romance, supportive!Fire Fam, Taylor being an actually good investigative journalist)

- Fake dating to Queer-platonic marriage!Buck/Eddie. Buck doesn’t like dating, sex is fine (it’s fun, it’s nice) but somehow dating makes him feel dirty, like a liar. But the team all keep pushing for him to get into another relationship after Abby. With the pressure to agree to a blind date with someone the team chose rising Buck turns to the internet to find someone to get them off his back. Single father Eddie Diaz is new to LA and really just wants another adult to talk to, his abuela and Pepa are great but he misses having someone his age around. Too busy to get out and meet people he turns to trying to make friends online. Buck is everything he needs in a friend, nonjudgemental, always ready to help, always free to listen, and he knows LA like the back of his hand, the catch? Buck needs a fake partner to convince his friends to lay off his dating life. And he’s a firefighter, at the station Eddie’s set to join. It’s a terrible idea, sure to end in disaster, but it might just be worth it.

- Alternate first meeting! Buck and Eddie both volunteer cuddling babies in the NICU. They strike up an easy friendship, but when Eddie joins the 118 and Buck feels his place in his family is threatened, will it shake their friendship, or will Buck’s team face the brunt of his insecurities?

- Buck got cancer in his 20s, he’s been cancer free for years when he joins the 118 but he’s keeping a secret from the team, they caught the cancer soon enough to save his life, but not to save his leg. But when Maddie comes back into his life it gets harder to keep that secret, and Maddie has a secret of her own, a family secret that could have saved Buck’s leg. (A “what if keeping Daniel a secret had medical repercussions for Buck” story)

- AU inspired by Cate’s Brother by Maisie Peters. Eddie joins dispatch instead of the fire department, he makes friends with fellow new dispatcher Maddie, bonding over trying to put down new roots in the unfamiliar city. Maddie decides to play matchmaker and introduces Eddie to her brother, Buck, who’s moving in with her after finally leaving Abby’s apartment. (Slight AU where Buck is openly avoiding living alone). Eddie is in love with Buck at first sight, but is Buck ready to commit to a relationship with a single father so soon after Abby?

i think Shane is the dad who treats his kid like pizza dough. Just flipping them all around, tossing them into a pool like a beach ball. Carrying them around by their ankles. And the kid fucking loves it. Like “daddy do the thing” and Shane is like :) and then lays down on his back, sets the kid on the soles of his feet and then launches them 10 feet towards the couch.

And it makes ilya so fucking nervous. “Gospodi Shanya be careful! You are trying to kill me. You want me to have heart attack.”

i don’t think shane would EVER reprimand ilya in front of their friends. there’s no “walking him like a dog” in the ottawa centaurs group. it’s the opposite, ilya is a spoiled little shit. shane only says no to him in the private and it’s rare. he’s an ilya’s enabler. he letting his husband do whatever and it’s not like is the worst cus not only ilya is an adult he’s very thoughtful, intelligent, respectful and professional. he knows there’s limits, he probably put it himself. so yeah fics with that tag is very funny is for hahas and hihis but i don’t think it would ever be canon

Ilya does like riling Shane up, so I think he does occasionally get a little, warning “Ilya…” and some meaningful eye contact, and knows that he’s hit his mark and it’s time to back off a little or tone it down.

But when Ilya is being a menace it’s very intentional and Shane is generally a fan of Ilya’s usual nonsense.

I’m probably not going to write this because I’d have to do research and all the search engines suck now, but I think it would be very fun to have a fic where Ilya doesn’t know a lot of American queer history. Like, he’s vaguely aware of Stonewall but he basically just recognizes the name. He’s got a very minimal, surface level knowledge. And obviously once he’s out and hanging out more with other queer people these sorts of things come up. And he’s teased about it a bit.

But it’s not that Ilya doesn’t know any queer history. He actually knows a lot of queer history. It’s just not American. He knows Eastern European queer history really well. He knew some before but once he was in Boston he could find and read more. And it made him feel less alone.

So once he gets tired of taking the teasing good naturally Ilya grills them back. Asking about notable people and places and giving the same shocked and dismayed responses to the wrong answers and blank stares he receives.

They get his point.

To be clear. Shane's whole thing about Ilya being a Sex God is because of the limerence. Ilya is nineteen and he can get a rhythm going and that's about it. He was throwing shit at the wall when he hit that 'Get on your knees' in Nashville but only he knows that because Shane's brain turned OFF. Ilya said "Let's do a little experiment here" and the results were "Oh my god oh my god oh my god." Shane came hands free because he was that obsessed with the idea of Ilya Rozanov being inside him. Ilya said "Do you like that do you like that" because he's nineteen and he needs the validation and Shane was like "YES YES YES I LIKE IT OH MY GOD YOU'RE SO DEEP YOU'RE SO GOOD" and objectively. It was okay. Ilya fully did not know where to put his hands a couple of times. He forgot about Shane's dick. Luckily, Shane is God's special angel who can come from the idea of Ilya's cockhead being in proximity to his prostate a few times. Mind over matter, says Shane Hollander's dick. And then Ilya said "Oh God Hollander" because it was also, objectively, one of the hottest things that had ever happened to HIM, Ilya Rozanov. Shane sits on that step afterwards plotting about how he's gonna get this over and over and over again for the rest of his life and he has no idea that there are women in Boston who have Ilya listed in their contacts as "Hockey Guy 6/10". Shane Hollander cannot fathom a world in which Ilya Rozanov doesn't lay the maddest pipe this side of Lake Michigan. "Ilya Rozanov is a some kind of nineteen year old sex God" No Shane honey he was just designed in a lab to score goals and make you cum and he's done scoring goals for the night.

I would say Ilya is probably above average, skills wise, for his age and his secret is that he checks in constantly and takes feedback well.

He’s a high level athlete with an unstable home life who actually cares whether his partner is having a good time. He is extremely sensitive to the signals other people are putting out and he is paying attention. And he’s built a career on some level on being willing and able to repeat a motion over and over until he’s told it’s right and then replicate that consistently. That probably translates pretty well to sex. So Ilya probably has a solid, well-earned reputation as a good sexual partner, but he’s not naturally gifted or super experienced when he first hooks up with Shane.

He’s just actually trying to make sure Shane has a good time.

I'm going to say something so controversial yet so brave but I disagree with the general consensus that Scott clocked hollanov before they came out.

That man hasn't clocked shit. He's a billion years old and has kill bill sirens blaring and gay war flashbacks flashing in his mind at all times while hollanov are exchanging room numbers and being in love while telling themselves they're gonna break it off next time. Scott Hunter is being haunted by his own gay thoughts and failures as a hockey player the entire time, there is no way he clocked anyone's shit, especially his own 💀

The jokes are funny (and i may have joined in on a good ol' baby vs hydrogen bomb joke or two) but it's so obvious his dig at Shane in that fight was about sounding like his greatest rival (aka a known and 'hated' asshole) and how that makes SHANE an asshole, likely because he'd played against the Bears just the day before and Ilya's own chirps were fresh on his mind.

Even at the rookie award afterparty, it's so obvious that when Shane gets weird about the 'your boy rozanov' comment, Scott gets even WEIRDER and basically goes "haha of course not YOUR boy i just meant like your BOY, your buddy, your pal, your archrival yk? Not YOUR boy 😅 cause that'd be weird. And gay. Which you're not. And I'M not 😅😅😅😅 haha. Anyway, how about those shots? 😃"

I mean… I think what’s fun about Ilya is that he can be both.

Like, he does have a lot of “alpha male” qualities, he’s a professional athlete, he’s big, he’s strong, he’s a top player in a sport known for fistfights with a play style that involves provoking other players on purpose. He’s hot and he know it, he’s rich, he spends a lot of his early adulthood clubbing and having casual sex with attractive women. And once he’s found someone he wants to be with long term he has a definite jealous streak.

He also wears shirts that show a lot of skin, and bold patterns, and probably has worn eyeliner. He does gossip with Svetlana.

The real thing that separates Ilya from the concept of the “alpha male” is that unlike those men who feel the need to declare themselves “alphas” Ilya is secure in his masculinity and his sexuality. He has nothing to prove in that respect.

But Ilya is still a very fit, physically imposing, guy who has been in fights, attracts beautiful women, and makes a lot of money. It’s just not all he is.

HEATED RIVALRY — EPISODE 3 VS. THE BOOK — SCOTT HUNTER KNOWS‼️

First and foremost, I have to say that I absolutely love the series. They made the book BETTER which is pretty rare. The book isn't perfect per se, sometimes it feels more like a fanfic than a fully fledged novel, but the Crave adaptation is really really good. I'm literally obsessed. However, they are scenes that were modified from the source material. Some for the better, some I thought were better in the book. So I'm going to post about it, because I can. I tagged properly and the title shows what you're in for, so don't complain.

In the books Scott doesn't know at all about Shane and Ilya's secret affair. I really liked the creative liberty they took in the series because Scott knowing makes so much sense and it could even fuel his desire to come out to pave the way for younger players… maybe even having them in mind. I can't wait for how this plays out in the rest of the series. So do you think Scott Hunter knows in the series or is he as clueless as he is in the books?

I don’t actually think Scott knows in the series. Like, I very much get why people think that, I think we’re kind of being led to that impression on purpose, but I don’t think he actually knows. I think Scott is really being used to show us how anxious and kind of paranoid secrecy is making Shane.

And the main reason I think that is because Scott keeps hitting way too close to home in very public settings. And especially when he does it in an antagonistic setting on the ice. Because if he actually knows? Throwing that at Shane on the ice is awful. It’s threatening. It’s a horrible thing to do to a young person you suspect is queer in a setting where you yourself are afraid to be out.

Like, I think the fact that we as the audience know that Scott is also queer, that he’s a safe person for Shane to be out to, that he understands why Shane and Ilya would need their relationship to be kept secret, colors a lot of people’s perception of that moment but Shane doesn’t know what we know. And Scott knows what it’s like to be closeted and in the public eye. Bringing up a secret that big? In public? With cameras on them? If he knows then that’s an incredibly shitty thing to do, it’s not lighthearted teasing.

And I think Scott is generally shown to be a good guy, and I think the writing on this show is good enough and nuanced enough that I believe that they aren’t actually setting Scott up to have known and thrown it in Shane’s face on purpose like that. Because I think the way that would reflect on Scott’s character would be taken into consideration.

(Although I could totally be wrong, season one was definitely written to be able to stand alone if the show wasn’t renewed. This is just my opinion at this point in time.)

I haven't thought about it that way! That's precisely why I love to engage with other fans, to create discussions and reflect upon my own beliefs!

Upon reviewing episode 3 and the Game Changers book because I'm obsessive, I think Scott says that because he thinks the Hollander/Rozanov rivalry is rubbing on Shane and that he got his shit-talking from Ilya because they are put on against each other by the MLH since 2008. In 2014 it's been years already of Hollander Vs. Rozanov's narrative. Maybe that jib is to say: "Shane, buddy, you're supposed to be the good guy, the white swan, but the shitty way you just talked to me makes me think of the black swan cocky asshole you've been put against your entire career."

I thought for a second there that maybe, maybe the high emotions and losing twice against Boston and Montréal in less than 24h hours unleashed the beast in him and he snarled and bit when Shane poked at his wounded pride. Then I went through the Game Changers books (I started analysing the series scene by scene with their book counterparts to review.) I immersed myself once again in Scott's thoughts and psyche much more than in the standalone episode 3. I know that Scott is a good guy to the core because the author tells us so. Scott is a good man, a charitable soul, and beacon of sportsmanship and role model to his teammates, rivals on ice and the fans. He is literally meant to hit at what Shane would be older. Their characters echo one another because they share a lot of similar attributes. He is an older mirror of Shane in a less naturally gifted kind of way (Shane is a genius, the child prodigy.) He would never, I believe, never send a threat to another hockey player he suspected to be queer. That's not the Scott I know and love. Being as terrified as he was to be discovered and outed. That's literally his worst fucking nightmare. I don't think he would put another player, his junior nonetheless, one he appreciates professionally like he does Shane, through that.

I don't know what the show meant by heavily implying Scott might know after the 2011 All-Star game (he says to Shane he is the room adjacent to Ilya, he drops that nuclear bomb on ice to Shane) but even if the series had taken the creative freedom of making him aware or at least suspect Shane and Ilya were more to each other than that the league and the media had them be, he wouldn't have said that to Shane in public, on the ice. NEVER would he have put another player in his own nightmarish scenario.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my post and make me reconsider Scott through the book perspective. It's been a rollercoaster going through Game Changers again but I loved it. Let's be friends!

So, I saw a TikTok but then I lost it so I’m going to complain here. It started with someone complaining about fics and stuff making Eddie and Steve super muscular, which I agreed with, and wanting people to let Eddie be a scrawny guy, which I’d also agree with, let him be skinny and not particularly strong. But then they called Steve chubby.

And, look, I’m all for chubby Steve, but if we’re talking about his canonical body type, the way he looks on the actual show? Steve is not chubby. And it is important to me as the pendulum of the fashionable body type is swinging back towards dangerously skinny that we do not start labeling the normal body of a fairly active and athletic young man “chubby”. It feels like a slide back into the time when people were balancing quarters in the dip behind their collarbone like it was a normal social media trend and not super concerning.

I don’t really have a strong conclusion to this beyond just, be aware of how you and people around you are talking about people’s bodies. No matter how neutral or positive you may be about these things individually the fact remains that the social pressure still exists and accidentally playing into that, doing things like describing a pretty normal, athletic body type as chubby, can have consequences for other people. When we’re talking about actors and the characters they play and talking about their bodies especially we are, whether we realize or not, often also talking to people who have similar bodies. Steve’s a fictional character, we can’t hurt his feelings, but there are a lot of young men with similar body types and we could hurt them without meaning to.

There are few things that I dislike more than epithets. I cannot read anything that uses more than like, two.

They have their uses, and sometimes they’re used in ways that I actually enjoy. But the really common ones are generally pretty overused.

So I binge watched House of Guinness. And I have a variety of ideas about what may happen in the immediate aftermath of that final scene. So I will attempt to put them in order of which I think is most likely to actually happen in a second season.

1. Ellen is shot and most likely dies.

Given that she hasn’t been doing that much with the Fenian side of things since her brother got sent away and he’s probably not going to get away with shooting at the rally (I don’t think he’s getting out of there without being apprehended or shot, we really haven’t seen much of the Fenians in the last few episodes and I don’t think they’re going to disappear from the story but they might take a backseat for a while) and I don’t really think her relationship with Edward, half dead as it is, could survive that blow. Plus it cleanly but tragically closes out her and Edward’s relationship arc if she dies. And I think dragging that relationship out further would start to get really repetitive.

It also gives Arthur a potential catalyst to actually become a bit more sympathetic to the political interests she wanted him to represent just in time for the campaign that was, historically, successful to kick off a potential arc of Arthur actually being an MP onscreen.

2. The shot was actually Rafferty shooting Ellen’s brother

Regardless of what else happens Ellen’s brother seems pretty doomed. And they did draw attention to Rafferty’s gun. Would also probably put an end to any positive feelings between Ellen and Edward. (We do see Ellen’s brother’s gun fire so this could be combined with any of the others but most likely option 8)

3. Rafferty is shot and wounded

As he’s not one of the historical figures wounding him doesn’t mess with timeline at all and it has lots of potential for character arcs.

4. Rafferty is shot and killed

Tragic but unlikely. It would cut off the affair with Olivia which I think is actually a point in favor of it happening but given that Rafferty is kind of the sole personification of the company’s dirty work I think it would be really disruptive to the status quo in ways that would take up a lot of time.

5. Arthur is shot and wounded

Given that he’s the presumed target he seems the most likely of our historical figures to be shot. It would bring an interesting dynamic to the Arthur, Olivia, and Rafferty situation, with Rafferty having failed to protect Arthur and with Olivia having to neglect one in order to be with the other.

6. Edward is shot and wounded

Given how much they’ve set up the threat being against Arthur and the time they spent showing Ellen’s brother working on his aim it turns the threat on its head. Edward is not seated so close to Arthur that he’s likely to be hit by accident. So either he would be struck in his seat, and have been the target all along, or have moved into the line of fire and taken another thing meant for his older brother upon himself. Sets us up for some very fun sibling dynamics since Edward has the dual role of being the baby but also the responsible brother. (Interestingly to me Edward is about five years younger than the next oldest sibling, Benjamin, meaning all of his older siblings likely remember him as a baby but do not remember each other that young because they are all much closer in age. Which has potential for great angst.) Has the potential to cause a lot of conflict. Particularly given that Edward has been the one building bridges and I think Arthur would be much less forgiving of harm done to Edward than he would be harm done to himself. Also presents an opportunity to develop Adelaide and Edward’s relationship more.

7. One of our other historical characters is shot and wounded

Olivia would create a lot of conflict but not much else. Honestly I think it would be more interesting if Olivia was spattered with either her husband or brother-in-law’s blood and appeared to be the one shot but wasn’t. Anne suffers enough as it is and I don’t think shooting her would be interesting at all. Benjamin could be interesting but he hasn’t had much to do so far so he wouldn’t really tie into an existing arc.

8. Some other member of the crowd is shot

Not very interesting. Sad, especially if it’s someone we’ve met, like Arthur’s last boyfriend. But ultimately not very interesting.

Personally I think Option 6 is most interesting.
