Perfect is very boring, and if you happen to have a different look, that’s a celebration of human nature, I think. If we were all symmetrical and perfect, life would be very dull.
Someone tell me a show to watch with a same sex couple in that are still alive and together. all my lesbian ships are dead, broken up or are never going to happen.
Stef and Lena!!! From The Fosters!!
reblog if a relationship between a blonde and brunette has emotionally destroyed you
Why Ruby Slippers Matters
When I was 12, I used to watch a television show called Shortland Street. At this point, I pretty much had no idea about lesbians, and as far as I knew, to be a lesbian you had to be really butch and like women who were really butch. That definitely wasn’t me, and so I brushed away all my feelings and convinced myself that I liked boys. But one day, Shortland Street introduced a lesbian couple. It was one of the defining moments of my life, when I saw Maia and Jay kissing on the television screen, two successful and accomplished characters, not to mention gorgeous. I was so unbelievably blown away by what I saw. At that moment, I realised that lesbians were real, and that it was okay to be one. Now I am 25 and have been with my girlfriend for 7 and a half years, and I still so distinctly remember that moment and how I felt when I saw Jay and Maia kiss. It absolutely changed my life and the way I understood what being gay was. For all the young kids who were sitting there watching OUAT and saw Ruby and Dorothy kiss, maybe that will be a defining moment for them too. No, it wasn’t Swan Queen, but it was something. I sincerely hope that Ruby and Dorothy get an actual storyline and aren’t just a one-episode thing, but even if just for that one moment, children and young people all over the world got to see that two women can be in love, and that it is okay. For all the kids with homophobic parents who would never let them watch tv shows like The Fosters, maybe they just got thrown a lifeline.
So...
…new couple…
…old couple…
…new combination?
You know what, I’m not going to succumb to bitterness.
YES they are TOKENS, but you know what else?
A lesbian and a bisexual just shared True Love.
They were hopeless and afraid, but got a happy ending.
They are both alive.
Neither of them were villains.
It wasn’t sexualized.
They showed not one but TWO kisses. ZOOMED them.
Everyone was supportive.
It became a page in the book of epic stories.
It doesn’t have to end there. More stories could be added to the book and that is not exclusive to heterosexual couples anymore. This was a game changer, not an endgame. Not yet.
brb sobbing
…so Ruby is Dorothy’s true love’s kiss and I’ve never been happier
You know what...
It’s true: Ruby Slippers is a token gay couple. It sucks. BUT one look at the OUAT facebook page and becomes clear why SQ isn’t the main couple on the show.
It’s because people are fucking nuts.
There was a woman on facebook who claimed that it took her 20 minutes to explain to her young children why ruby was “giving dorothy some tongue” and compared the scene to porn.
After reading a lot of the comments, I actually felt really bad for A&E, because having a lesbian couple on a network “family show” was actually kind of…dare I say…progressive. And they’re getting backlash for it.
So please don’t attack them on twitter or anything. They’re getting enough of that from crazy people.
And as a bi, I love that Ruby is bi. She reminds me of myself because she’s very fem and not a lot of people are aware of her sexuality.
I have gone from “awww” to “nice try, writers” to “you know what, this is actually really brave and respectable.”
If you disagree with this post, I totally understand, but honestly I think the A&E did their best with the audience they have.
I love how people are so bitter over their otps not happening that they have to shit on actual canon representation!!!!
bruh. my otp is still mulan/aurora and I am still fuckin THRILLED with ruby/dorothy because it is CANON REPRESENTATION TREATED EXACTLY LIKE ALL THE HETERO PAIRINGS IN THE FUCKIN SHOW. that is a good thing. it is not QUEERBAITING when it was legit queer with kisses and true love and everything.
it happened fast? yeah, and? so do all the other true loves on this show. like I said, it was treated just the same as the heteros. yes, it should’ve happened earlier. yes, one non-straight pair is not the ideal.
but guess what!! you can still be happy it’s a fuckin step in the right direction!!! you are allowed, I promise!! even if wasn’t your own personal otp!!!! it’s still a Very Good Thing to have happened!!!!!
please, PLEASE stop whining that it doesn’t count or is the wrong ship or all the other shit y’all spew, because y’know what that’s gonna accomplish? bitter, spiteful writers to DO EVEN WORSE.
jfc
ps it reminds me of a time when so many people only wanted stiles to be canon bi if he was with a certain bearded werewolf. if not, LOL FUCK CANON BISEXUALITY!! not to mention everyone ignoring the canonly-stated gay characters because who the fuck cares if it’s not the ones you were hoping for, amirite?? representation, whoo!
Love this
So Snow can see that Red has a crush on Dorothy but not the blatant gayness of her own daughter.
