one of the biggest displays of fandom misogyny I witnessed was when Luka and Kagami were introduced as romantic rivals in season two of Miraculous and everyone lovvvved Luka but hated Kagami. didn't see it that way at the time because I thought, "well, it's natural that a fanbase of mostly young girls would like Luka because they find him hot, but they have no such attraction to Kagami, so they have no reason to be favorable to her."

but omg the way they were determined to villainize her for having a direct delivery and practical outlook was bonkers to witness. Kagami was like, "yo Marinette if you don't make a real move on Adrien, then I'm gonna shoot my shot," and based on the fandom reaction you would've thought she shoved Marinette into a wall and called her a pathetic loser who never had a chance with Adrien

meanwhile I (age 14) thought Kagami was cool as hell for being a fencer and being so assertive while also trying to be fair and advise Marinette, and then I started shipping marigami when they got closer in season three. but, to be fair, I was a (unknowing at the time) lesbian. so. it was also natural for me to be drawn to Kagami but find Luka unbearably cringey LOL

ok but why does no one ever talk about the palpable sexual tension of meeting your match. your equal. it can be in any task you excel in. just the idea of everyone before them being so substandard and then finally you have someone who can challenge you in a way that no one ever has before. someone that can finally be better than you, who can protect you in a way no has ever been able to. there is a certain loneliness in being the best of the best and here comes someone eager to overthrow you. the rivalry. the acceptance of the other’s strength. the equality in skillsets. why does no one ever talk about that? huh? HUH?
