I dreamed there was a PSA where a guy is impatiently waiting for the plane to take off and it like "Ugh I wish they'd just hurry up and take off already" and then the plane immediately starts taking off without warning, climbs steeply, pitches down unrecoverably, and crashes into a populated area. Then we see a very badly injured and burned version of that guy being interviewed on a talk show as like "survivor of flight ___" and he turns to the camera and goes "Y'know, it's usually best to just trust the professionals to do their job. Sometimes it's better to be a little bit late."
I don't know what this was a PSA for, other than "shut the fuck up," but I was quite the fan
Manager said I needed to take a break
Help I can't work under these conditions
This accident was the first Admiral Cloudberg article I read and this line from the transcript genuinely has become a part of my vocabulary it's that iconically bad. For context they are about 5,000ft high on the approach at this point
For further context they were so high on the approach they were over 3° high from the correct descent angle. They were an entire glideslope high from the glideslope

For those who don't remember, here's the lawsuit two years ago where Tumblr (or specifically Automattic) settled with the New York City Commission on Human Rights regarding Tumblr's terribly implemented porn ban targeting LGBTQ folk more than it should. Here's an excerpt detailing what the NYCCHR ordered Tumblr to do:
The settlement gives Tumblr 180 days to hire an expert on sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) issues and provide related training to moderators. It must also hire someone with experience in this area as well as expertise in image classification, who will review Tumblrâs moderation algorithms to see if theyâre more likely to flag LGBTQ content. As part of an overall review, Tumblr will reexamine 3,000 old cases where a user successfully appealed a takedown, looking for patterns that could indicate bias.
Now, on a totally unrelated note, here's the complaint page for reporting discrimination to the NYCCHR. Completely unrelated to what's going on right now or the rest of this post, I swear.
"You only like this character because she's a woman!" okay and you hate her because she's a woman, knowing that she has all the traits you would enjoy in a male character.
writing a movie about a violent man in a dress who kills women out of a desire to become one and then insisting over and over that it can't be transphobic (despite it's cultural influence to the contrary) because he isn't a real tranny is. well it's beyond parody isn't it.
reallyyy not a fan of the habit people have of deflecting guilt for making abhorrent and obvious caricatures of trans women in media by insisting that it was actually super progressive because he wasn't a real transsexual!! you see the same shit with rhps. just a complete failure to take some accountability and say "yeah that was insensitive we shouldn't have depicted a real group of people that way and it has brought them material harm as a result."
It's so frustrating when people pull the "but he isn't a trans woman," like yes, the transmisogynistic caricature will not be called a woman by the source material, please consider why that is
"The Hateful Image of You is a community building thing for us though." "We felt so safe in The Hateful Image of You it let us explore ourselves." "The Hateful Image of You inspired women to join imperialist government organizations." "Honestly I dont even care how you feel about The Hateful Image of You it doesn't matter that nobody acknowledges the affect it has on You." "I have personally helped facilitate dozens of productions of The Hateful Image of You its not amazing its just a movie."
Silence of the Lambs, Ace Ventura, RHPS, Sleepaway Camp, Longlegs, Psycho, the list goes on and on and on and The Hateful Image of You lives on in the hearts of everyone around us and TME people expect us to just, not care? Is it so hard to empathize with a trans woman for one minute that they can't even conceive of having The Hateful Image of You depicting yourself in a warped portrait with blood smeared on it and how it makes us feel? Especially that its a beloved community gathering thing to take part in The Hateful Image of You? That The Hateful Image of You unites everyone else in enjoying it? That the sharing of it perpetuates its renewal over and over again?
Nah, I'mma be a loud pissed off tranny about it. The least I can do to fight what kills so many of us before we can even be ourselves is shit on every one of these shitty fucking things yall make. Fuckin Hell.
have you guys heard about the greenland shark. some crazy shit happening there.
they are sexually mature at ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY YEARS OLD.
their (live!) young gestate for. wait for it. eight to eighteen (??) YEARS. can have up to 10 at a time. good grief.
longest lifespan of any vertebrate, up to five hundred years
toxic flesh
has giant eyes but is usually blind because of a weird little crustacean that's evolved to live on and eat their eyes. this doesn't seem to bother them much.
lives in deep cold water and has the lowest swim speed and tail-beat frequency for its size across all fish species. just generally lives life in extreme slow motion
largest genome of any shark
eats everything including moose and polar bears
ma'am you are delightfully strange and I'm privileged to share a planet with you
this post prompted me to refresh my memory on Greenland Shark Facts and this detail about how they feed goes so hard
just vacuuming up their unsuspecting prey. whole !
Good news good news good news! Recent research suggests the eye parasites do NOT blind them!
Dorota Skowronska-Krawczyk sits in her office, eyes fixed on the computer monitor in front of her. "You see it move its eye," says the UC Ir
I <3 you a normal amount Greenland sharks
The thing I donât understand about the transandrophobia stuff is how it leads into the transmisogyny. Like, trans guys do experience oppression, and they should be allowed to talk about it, but every guy Iâve seen whoâs talked about it using the term âtransandrophobiaâ has also been extremely transmisogynistic. Not always at first or intentionally, but itâs like a pipeline I think? So like, I understand that there is a correlation here. I have observed it myself. But I donât get it? What is it about using that word to describe their experiences that leads them to consistently become so transmisogynistic? And they talk a lot about wanting trans solidarity, but their actions donât really reflect that? But I donât understand how it happens. Itâs like [a trans guy experiences oppression] -> [he wants to talk about it] -> [he starts talking about transandrophobia] -> [SOMETHING?????] -> [he becomes violently transmisogynistic]. And itâs like ok, the oppression IS real, talking about it IS good, but then we get to that word, and thatâs where things start to go bad, but I donât know how or why. I donât know what happens in the âSOMETHING?????â step.
my guess is that part of it is they resent us for "appropriating" the experience of misogyny that they believe is inherent to agab. they want to be the ultimate authorities on misogyny, and they hate the idea that we have authority on discussing our own experiences of misogyny, and I think they especially resent the idea that it affects us more than it does them in many areas of life. I cannot forget how mad they got that I pointed out the wage gap between them and us
people in general are very condescending about trans women's experiences with misogyny, acting like we're appropriating what ~real~ women go through. and frankly, a lot of transandrobros seem to think of themselves as more of women than trans women in everything but name. they just say "afab" instead of "woman"
Me and this trans guy who I'll call Jim jointly run trans events from time to time in an art centre that's the converted bottom floor of a 19th century mansion. It's in a pretty sketchy part of town when it comes to street harassment (not ideal but the owners let us use it for free which is why we don't go somewhere else) so, even though I could walk, I normally get someone to drive me so I can jump right out of the car and into the building.
The most recent time, I arrived half an hour before the event as usual, but the building was locked. We don't have a key and the door is normally left open for us. Jim shows up a few minutes later, we can't get in, and we're just standing on the street in a sketchy part of town.
I suggest we message everyone and move the event to somewhere else, a local bar that's very safe, it means we won't be able to do what we had planned but we can at least sit inside and socialise for an hour or two. Jim doesn't like this idea. So we wait on the street as several people walk past giving us weird looks.
After about 10 minutes, Jim thinks he sees someone through a window inside the house. We know there are theoretically people who live above the arts centre, but we've never seen them before. Jim starts hammering on the door, and the people on the street are staring at us even more.
Then Jim decides to stary yelling, not just "Hello", but "Hello we're from the transgender group!" at the door, really loudly. People are really looking now. He keeps doing this for about five minutes until eventually a man actually opens the door and asks "What do you want?"
I can tell instantly that this guy has *views* on trans people, gay people, the usual. But Jim just says, loudly enough for everyone nearby to hear too, "Hi, we're here from the transgender group, we're holding a transgender event in here!" This guy thinks for a second then his eyes narrow and he looks directly at *me* with a kind of vicious disgust that I recognise all too well.
I have to explain that Jim started medical transition very young. He looks and sounds totally indistinguishable from a cis man, to the extent that many people within the community privately doubt that he is trans at all (he is though). I don't mean to imply that he doesn't face transphobia, even the most perfectly "passing" trans man faces a ton of discrimination for that transness. I just mean to point out that this man looked down at us on the doorstep and saw what he would describe as a man in men's clothing, and a potential T-slur in women's clothing, and then heard Jim essentially say "we're transgender", and he knew that he had clocked me correctly, and that disgust I saw in his face was that confirmation that one of *them* was here in his house.
In the end, nothing bad happened, the guy stood there blocking our entry for a minute, but eventually grunted something and wandered off. But it took me a while to realise that I was actually a bit shaken up by the whole thing.
Seeing Jim so casually and repeatedly out both of us to the whole street and also this one guy, really hammered home the point that he is totally unaware of the gulf in danger levels faced by the two of us. And the frustrating thing is, even if I pointed this out to him, he would say I was overreacting because nothing bad happened, did it?
