So I was watching the Mystery Spot episode and I realized something when the Trickster finally let them get back to that Wednesday, to when Dean had still been alive.

When Sam began to cry, and started to plead for Dean’s life, the Trickster paused. He paused because he thought back to what it was like when he lost his brother, Lucifer. How much it hurt him, how it hurt him to the point of where he ran away. He thought of the agony that he had felt, missing one of his brothers. He thought of how he would give anything to be back with all of his brothers, reunited and happy like they had been all those hundreds of years ago. 

So he let Dean come back. Because as much as he wanted to teach Sam a lesson, he really didn’t want Sam to end up like him. Bitter and alone, wishing that he could have changed something, that someone would have granted him his wish to have everything back like it used to be.
