“But so many women I know have their first book when they’re our age. I mean, I was 40, and I didn’t have my second book until I was 50. And then it was another five years before I had Four-Legged Girl. Maybe this is old school, but I think there is some worth in publishing when you really have something to say. And how do you have something to say? Well, you live a life. When I was 22, I wrote, but mostly reflections of certain kinds of emotional intensities, because that’s what I had. I hadn’t had time to really integrate those intensities or put them into a perspective that made a larger kind of sense, or connected outward, and who does? So that pressure to produce, to brand oneself, it has an impact on the landscape of poetry.”
— Diane Seuss, from “On Frank O’Hara And Marilyn Monroe: A Conversation Between Diane Seuss And Heidi Seaborn”, published in the Adroit Journal, August 9, 2021
thinking about when my professor told me how the boards of companies/orgs/etc. will sometimes hire on a CEO/whatever who they know will basically take a chainsaw to existing infrastructure, let them fuck as much shit up as possible, and then promptly fire them as soon as they've accomplished what the board wanted them to do. then they can point the finger at that guy & look like they're the heroes and the problem is resolved because he's gone now. and they still get to keep all the changes they wanted that nobody else did.
anyway I think it's fun and all to watch the two most divorced men on the planet publicly divorce each other. and also. maybe keep that in mind, is all.
like,
guys come on they think we're so fucking stupid.
here's a list of programs/sites/whatever that were helpful to me when i was moving away from using spotify & back to downloading music:
soulseek - peer to peer downloading program, has most music you'd want. there's "rules" to it though and the UI is a little confusing, but you can figure it out. there's tutorials. i believe in you
cobalt.tools, ytiz.xyz, yt-dlp - mp3 downloaders, for the songs that you can't find on soulseek
musicbee - music player, extremely customiseable. reminds me of when i used itunes back in the day. has a lot of good features, including syncing music over to your phone
lastfm & listenbrainz - sites that keep track of your listening stats. i'd recommend this even if you still choose to use a music streaming service
syncedlyrics - cmd thing that gets you timed song lyrics, like the ones spotify has. there's no UI but it's easy enough to use. just grab the lyrics and timestamps it spits out and paste it into musicbee
music presence - program that shows what song you're listening to in your discord status, in case you use discord and enjoy the thought of other people seeing what you're listening to, which i do for some reason
i'm not going to lie to you and say that switching away from spotify/streaming services is an effortless task, it took me half a whole day of nonstop Work to get all my music downloaded and sorted out, but i will say that it was worth it!! and you should do it 👍 if you want to
i apologize to op for tacking on something they already know but just in case a brand new person sees this and isnt aware: downloading music from soulseek is phenomenal, i use it all the time, but it is considered piracy by corporations/ISPs, so you need to use a VPN or you're running a risk if you get caught
Honestly no matter how this shakes out, the win I'm taking today is there are many MAGA Elon fanboys who are no longer Elon fanboys, and many MAGA Elon fanboys who are no longer MAGA fanboys
Noooooooooooooooooooooo Elon don't split the Republican partyyy 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Don't recreate the Bull Moose Party of 1912 which split the Republican base and threw the election to the Democrats securing Woodrow Wilson the 28th presidency 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Don't exploit the egregious flaws of the American 2-party system in the direction of shooting your own foot and dissolving the Republican stronghold between Old Racist Republican and Brainrot Alt-Right Republican because your ego got pissed on nooo 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.
using my christian baby to hold down some papers but then the rapture happens :/

'I asked chat GPT-'
oh did you? You asked something that steals shit to lie to you about a subject? And you just tell me this like I care to know what it said? Like I wanted to know its opinion? I regularly ask my cat Cheesey Gordita Crunch about many subjects and I think I trust his judgement more than whatever bullshit ur shitty algorithm spat out
I asked catCGC about the issues and I think his input is valuable here he says 'weh'
which would be more pathetic?
Target begs the gays to come back with huge Pride collection
Target gargles fascism even harder and releases NO Pride collection at all
Target pisses off everyone by releasing a Pride collection but it's half-assed
goes without saying the boycott is still on and absolutely NOTHING target does now or in the future will be good enough to forget or ignore their enthusiastic support of this fascist regime
CONGRATS EVERYONE they released a half-assed Pride collection so fast they forgot to remove the placeholder text on all the tags lol
Yeah not only did they not write copy for the tags, they made the least rainbow Pride collection possible. Like. These are the clothes:
I'm not surprised given this is a company that recently fired 2 of its DEI executives, but still. Bleak.
Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell: The Pride Collection
when jorge luis borges wrote in a copy of beowulf that he was working on translating, “beyond my anxiety, beyond this writing, the universe waits, inexhaustible, inviting.”
here’s the full poem! it’s so. something so transcendent something so inevitable and real and conceptually like looking into the abyss and hearing a choir sing your humanity back to you
And here’s the original:
The thing is lads I cannot think of a better use for my tax dollars than feeding children. I want my taxes to give the single mother of three healthcare. I want my taxes to take care of the elderly and the disabled. I don’t care if they’re citizens or legal residents or whatever. I want my taxes to help people. Because we’re trying to live in a goddamn society. Instead my taxes go towards bombing schools and hospitals and refugee camps. Billions and billions sent to proxy wars. And still people quibble over whether we should feed children. What are we doing here. Feed the kids.
people don’t know and can’t imagine what they want out of art, especially uncreative people who have other interests and skills and don’t really think about how to make art. The idea that it’s “the future of creativity” to ask AI to make an something you want to see according to your parameters is so goofy, and there’s a reason most of the time people give examples that are just fanfiction of existing IP…. you have no idea what you want. you won’t know you want it until you have it in your hands, delivered by a creative crazy person. agents etc who are looking “for the next [popular thing]” are being cynical and dumb. you can’t look for it, it has to surprise you
like who would have expected breaking bad to hit as big as it did? vampires were dead as a genre before twilight. in 2019, almost no one was watching succession, and when i recommended it to people they said “i can see why you like it but i don’t think i would!” then hopped on the train a few years later. industry didn’t find an audience initially either. a lot of agents thought carrie was a weird bummer book that would never sell. nobody wanted to publish dune besides a car manual company and now it’s a billion dollar IP. Why are people so sure that an audience knows what it wants? If everyone had to rely on AI for entertainment you would die of boredom in a week

living in the USA rn means every news headline every day is like BREAKING NEWS: The Universal Free Puppy Plan guaranteeing every USA resident receives a free puppy has been terminated. Funds for this initiative will instead be going to the ‘GUNCH IT UP’ act, ensuring that every item on grocery store shelves now contains at least 25% coal tar
